The Giants need a completely new infield, outfield, and pitching staff.
Anthony Franco
6:02
I don't think that's true. Bullpen overhaul, retaining or replacing Rodón and adding one big bat makes them a contender IMO
6:03
Obviously that's still a lot to achieve in one offseason, but I think a lot of the position player group is already pretty solid. They're lacking elite carrying talent, but the depth/matchup types are already in place
Uncle Stevie's Nephew
6:03
Do the Mets try to extend Alonzo or McNeil before they hit FA? Of the Mets big pending free agents (Diaz, Nimmo, Degrom) could they realistically (even with Uncle Stevie's money) keep/pay all 3?
Anthony Franco
6:05
McNeil feels like a more realistic extension candidate. He's older, doesn't have the kind of profile that teams love paying for in free agency. Could see him being amenable to something affordable that guarantees his arb years and buys out a couple free agent years
As for the second question, hard to see them retaining all three of those guys. I'd take the field over the Mets on Nimmo, in particular

What's your super early prediction on the big free agent the Giants sign (assuming you think they get one).
Anthony Franco
6:06
Trea Turner?
Wisconsin guy
6:07
Ryan Pepiot, Michael Busch and Eddys Leonard for Corbin Burnes. Who says no first?
Anthony Franco
6:08
I think Milwaukee can beat it. Not a terrible offer, but they'd probably want a better headliner
Orioles Question
6:09
Orioles need true difference-making SP and they've promised to add in offseason, but right now it seems like the free agent market will be most talent-rich at positions that do not align with their needs. If you were Orioles GM, which SPs would you target in FA or trade?
Anthony Franco
6:10
Rodón makes a lot of sense there too, although that's true of virtually any team trying to contend. I think Zach Eflin's an intriguing fit if they want to stay away from the top-of-the-market and guys who are likely to cost a draft pick
6:12
Gets a fair number of grounders, relatively young. The injury history is worrisome obviously but he's solid when healthy
Che Che Che Changes
6:12
With the rules changing next year such as bigger bases and limited shift, do you see a more exploding offense in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:14
Nah I think they're marginal changes. Doubt the bases move the needle much at all, and the shift ban should increase the batting average on balls in play initially but probably eventually leads to more three-true-outcome hitters in the long run
Adam
6:15
Is there any consideration for incentivizing teams to keep players longer? There is so much turnover even hard core fans don’t know who is on the roster anymore
Anthony Franco
6:16
The limit on the amount of times a team can option a guy per season should have a small impact on shuffling at the back of the roster, but you're not going to be able to much to reduce trade/FA turnover
6:17
Extending teams' windows of club control or capping the offers other teams can make to free agents would have that effect, but the Players Association isn't going to go for anything like that
Vermonty
6:18
The Yankees have to move on from Hicks after the season, right? Maybe IKF and Donaldson, too.
Anthony Franco
6:20
Even if they bring Judge back I think Hicks sticks around in a reserve capacity. IKF is fine as a utility guy too, with Volpe or Peraza hopefully taking shortstop pretty quickly
6:21
Agree they should look outside the organization for third base help though. Donaldson's swinging and missing a lot, not hitting the ball as hard as he has. For a win-now team in that division, I wouldn't be complacent there
BhamBrave
6:22
Mike Soroka, Ian Anderson, Bryce Elder, Kyle Muller. Which of these guys will be in the Braves major league rotation in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:22
Soroka's the only one I expect to be in the top five, although Anderson's probably the top depth option
Angels Fan
6:23
If the Angels became committed to making a deep run next year, what would be the one thing they need to do in the off season?  I would say acquire three starting pitchers, 2 of whom need to be front of the rotation material.
Anthony Franco
6:23
That's a lot easier said than done, particularly with questions about how much Moreno might be willing to spend this winter as he explores the sale
6:25
Would it help? Of course. But I don't think it's all that realistic. I also feel like infield/bullpen depth is a bigger concern than the rotation at this point
Smacky
6:25
Everyone goes on and on about how historic they are and yet their division is not great. People forget 1/4th of their schedule is Colorado & Arizona. You have thoughts on this? They have the easiest schedule in all of MLB
Anthony Franco
6:27
I assume this is about the Dodgers? They bludgeon most teams and Arizona's not even that bad
Mike Trout
6:27
Are people in the chat que freaking out now that you said that I was the best you have ever seen?
Anthony Franco
6:28
Nah it's not like I could've seen Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle
Cards fan
6:28
Who are  catching tadem  next  year?
Anthony Franco
6:29
Probably Herrera and a veteran free agent. Austin Hedges/Roberto Pérez defensive type
Matt (Oceanside)
6:30
Regarding Rodon's contract, if he opts out, are the Giants allowed to offer him a qualifying offer, assuming he has never been offered one?
Anthony Franco
6:30
Yes

Myles Straw has been practically the worst qualified offensive player by a large margin, but also he’s been the games best defender by a larger, maybe even larger margin as well (5 OAA more than the current record). Is there any other seasons you can think of where a player has been elite on one side of the ball, while being among the games worst on the opposite side?
Anthony Franco
6:32
Prime Billy Hamilton feels like the archetype for this, unless you want to say his baserunning elevated the offense enough that he was merely bad on that side of the ball
Shift Question
6:33
Which lefties will benefit most from the new anti-shift rules?
Anthony Franco
6:33
Rizzo feels like the biggest beneficiary to me
Baseball Fever
6:34
I have sent several question and never get answers so I am hope this time I get picked for answers. Do you see White Sox partung ways with LaRussa. Sox have been doing better and scoring alot of runs in his absence.
Anthony Franco
6:35
I don't think they'll make a change specifically because they've played well under Cairo for two weeks. Rick Hahn addressed this today and (correctly) pointed out that it's far too small a sample on which to make a firm decision
