I had him at 6-6 with a 3.99 ERA, 2.8 BB/9, 8.5 K/9 in 19 starts. Didn't expect him to come up this quickly, but I was expecting him to be in the Majors by June and to have a good rookie season.

Hey Jason, I was wondering why teams don't sign more players from the Mexican league more often? It has been called a Triple A equivalent so if a guy is playing really well why don't we see more of them coming to the major leagues and helping teams?
AvatarJason Martinez

I would say it's equivalent to Triple-A without the up-and-coming young players who are close to the Majors. So a lot older journeymen and players who could probably do fine in Triple-A but are clearly not MLB-caliber.

Did the Orioles make a mistake in managing their 40 man by forcing Hunter Harvey up to the big leagues because they had no other options?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:22
He was already on the 40-man roster and they needed an extra bullpen arm. By calling up Harvey, who was in line to start a Double-A game, they didn't have to create a spot on the 40-man roster to call up someone who wasn't.
5:23
It wasn't a mistake. Harvey had to be put on the 40-man roster this offseason or he would've been eligible for the Rule 5 draft.

Greetings from tokyo! Do you think if the giants can manage .500 till bump returns and shark Cueto get healthy we have a chance (if we stop this circa 2010 hitting)
AvatarJason Martinez
5:24
Definitely. And teams like that are the most dangerous. Just keep their heads above water until they return to full health and then make a run later in the season.

Who is the biggest name you see getting moved during the season?

Manny Machado

When will the Braves move Minter to the closing role after Vizcaino blew another one?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:28
It would probably take at least 2 more blown saves in the next month before the Braves consider a change. Ideally, they'd have another lefty to plug into Minter's role before giving him a chance to close. Could be Jesse Biddle (remember him?). He's off to a good start in AAA (3.2 IP, 0 R, 6 K)

Tim mentioned doing some work to roster resource as a priority moving forward. What’s the biggest thing that you feel needs to be done to make it even better?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:32
The work that's being done will speed up the loading time and improve the mobile version. Most importantly, I'll be able to manage everything more efficiently so I can be freed up to create more features that make the site more reader-friendly.

What happens with Nick Senzel this year in the wake of Suarez's injury?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
Sounds like his move to 2B will be put on hold and he'll be back at 3B (this weekend, I believe). That puts him on the fast track to the Majors. I don't think Suarez has a timeline, but I'd expect him to miss at least a month. Reds aren't going with Gosselin/Pennington at 3B for much longer.

Is it me or is there a lot more players on the DL so far this year compared to last year?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:36
No, it just seems that way. Up to 154 players on the DL ... https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-injury-report/
5:37
There were 659 DL stints last season. I'll be creating one of these DL trackers for 2018 in the next week ... https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-disabled-list-tracker/

How long before Toles and Verdugo are mainstays in the Dodgers outfield? Do you realistically think Kemp has what it takes to hold down LF through 2019?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
I don't think Kemp makes it to July. If he's not on the DL, he'll be on the bench with Pederson, Verdugo or Toles getting the majority of at-bats in LF.

How about that brawl in Denver?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
It was nothing. I watched this Padres-Braves classic on TV when I was 8 years old ...
Chris
5:42
What are the chances the braves target Kimbrel in the off-season
AvatarJason Martinez
5:42
I love reunions. Braves should have $ and Kimbrel would help them out as they try to take a step forward.

Who's out there as a FA pitcher, Ricky Nolasco?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:43
Nolasco. I believe Jake Peavy and Jarred Cosart are going to hold showcases soon. Chris Young looked OK this spring. Scott Feldman was decent when healthy last season.

Do the Rockies have any options with Desmond?  Trade, DFA, hope for an injury.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:45
He just needs to be in a super-utility role playing 3-4 times per week, mostly vs LHP. Rockies owe him $60MM. He's not going anywhere. And he's useful. Just shouldn't be an everyday 1B.

I'm thinking of making a come back.

Do it! You're only 1 HR short of 400.

What do  you think of F. Gavis at short for the Padres?  Does he force the up and coming F. Tatis to 3rd base?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:48
He's a great fit. I think he is the kind of player that would sign a team-friendly extension. They'll figure out where Tatis plays later on. He can play SS or 3B.

5:49
Why aren't the Rays signing any free agent pitchers because of their three man rotation?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:51
Pretty sure Yonny Chirinos is officially in the rotation now. He hasn't allowed a run in 14.1 IP. And I think they have some decent options for the No. 5 spot once they finally decide to fill it with an actual starting pitcher.
5:52
Gotta run. Same time and place next week. I can be found at @mlbdepthcharts until then if you have any questions.
