Hi everyone, and happy Victoria Day weekend for those of us in Canada.  Let's talk some baseball!
Alexis
7:03
Can Mets fans take anything good away from the Marlins series
Mark P
7:03
"No." -- Mickey Callaway
7:04
It's a pretty tough weekend, and it seems like a managerial change will happen sooner rather than later.  It isn't fair to point the finger entirely at Callaway, of course, though the manager is always the first to go

7:05
How much are Givens and Mancini really worth?
Mark P
7:05
I think they'd get a nice return on both.  Two good, controllable young players who are performing well right now.
7:06
No reason for Baltimore not to market either, since they're still years away from contending
QUEUEBD
7:06
do you think the Padres would even consider trading for MadBum?
Mark P
7:07
The Padres seem to be kicking the tires on any front-of-the-rotation pitching, so I'm sure they've already considered it.  The question is if SD and SF can match up in trade talks, and you wonder if the Giants would want a premium for dealing MadBum within the division (even as a rental)
Cameron
7:08
How far out of it do you think the Indians would have to be to start shopping Lindor? Dolan has basically already said he's not in the long term plans
Mark P
7:09
Even if Cleveland totally falls apart over the next two months, things would have to get unconscionably bad for Lindor to be dealt.  Remember, the Tribe would still have eyes on contending in 2020, so they wouldn't go into total rebuild mode

Is Adley Rustchman a Top 10 prospect after he is drafted....likely by the Orioles.
Mark P
7:10
Top 10 in all of baseball?  That might be a bit of a reach, though Adley is very highly regarded by all scouts and pundits.
QUEUEBD
7:11
How do you think the elimination of the waiver deadline will effect the July31st deadline? Potentially push deals to happen earlier in the season? Create more buyers because there should be more teams in contention?
Mark P
7:12
This is a question a lot of teams have asked themselves, since the removal of August waiver trades will alter a lot of front office strategies. I think it'll create even more action than usual before July 31

Is Caleb smith available? How about Marcus stroman
Mark P
7:14
Stroman for sure.  Caleb Smith would only be available for a massive prospect haul...while the Marlins aren't contending anytime soon, Smith has five years of control
Braves
7:15
Is Austin Riley about to get Inciarte traded?
Mark P
7:16
Riley is definitely making a case for an everyday role, though Inciarte has value as a fourth outfielder.  In terms of trading him, Inciarte won't get a lot of buzz given his struggles and not-insignificant salary
Dayton Moore
7:20
What type of return would Whit Merrifield net me? I think the return gets a tiny bit better after his recent team friendly extension and we're not contending until 2021 when hopefully a few of our pitching prospects are up. He's versatile and would be an immediate upgrade for a majority of teams.
Mark P
7:20
*Moore is the Royals GM, by the way*

Merrifield would be a nice trade chip, but the Royals aren't going to deal him since I don't think they see themselves in rebuild mode

The manager isn't always the FIRST to go.
Mark P
7:22
Good point!
Poll?
7:23
Should baseball allow draft trades
Mark P
7:24
100%

I don't see any downside to it, and it would only increase interest in both the draft and the hot stove market
Alex
7:24
Can you explain why Farhan Zaidi just seems to signs players only to be DFA 4 days later? I'm very confused on the point of that since they barely play any games at all.
Mark P
7:26
The sheer number of outfielders the Giants have cycled through is a bit of a head-scratcher.  I'm not sure how well a team can evaluate a player in just a few days' time, unless they're trying all these DFAs just in the name of trying to stash guys in the minors.
7:27
Tim Dierkes wrote a piece about the Giants' outfield situation earlier this week, if you need a flowchart to keep up on all the names

Ryu improves his scoreless streak to 31 straight innings. Is it time we start talking about him as being a top-5 starter?
Mark P
7:28
You need the "when healthy" proviso but yeah, Ryu is an outstanding pitcher
Cashmoney
7:28
How about those Yanks
Mark P
7:29
All those injuries, and they're still cleaning up.  I'd say this team will be scary when they're healthy, but NYY is already scary now
AJ Preller
7:29
Is there a match for Wil Myers on the trade market? Say another bad contract swap? He's not a total sunk cost given his near 100 wrc. I was thinking Dexter Fowler?
Mark P
7:30
That's quite a sales pitch.  "Hey, want to take on Wil Myers' $70MM contract?  His wRC+ is almost 100!"
7:31
A swap of ill-fitting contracts isn't out of the question, though it won't be Fowler.  Cardinals don't have room for Myers at first or even really in the corner outfield
Michael
7:31
Vlad for AL ROY...change my mind.
Mark P
7:32
Funny how this week's chat doesn't have any more "what's wrong with Vlad? Should he go back to Triple-A?" questions.

Forsythe, Pence, and Santana are playing out if their minds right now.  TX ain’t going to the postseason so if they continue to play well where could these three end up?
