Flags fly forever.  Yes, Chapman didn't exactly dominate the 2016 postseason, but if we're talking butterfly-effect type stuff here, not having him on the roster at all maybe means the Cubs don't win the Series.
9:45
Losing Torres looks like a blow, no doubt.  But if you ask any Cubs fan if they'd rather have Torres on the team now and not have the 2016 championship, 100 out of 100 fans would want the championship

I know the front office and Dayton Moore are excited about our farm system and expect to contend as soon as next year, but a longtime royal fan here sees 2023 at the soonest.  Am I missing something?
Mark P
9:47
The Royals never like to admit they're rebuilding even when they are rebuilding.  Maybe they're hoping that one of their young teams just catches fire like they did in 2013 and suddenly they have a contender.

I wouldn't be surprised if they contend before 2023 but yeah, it looks like KC has a lot of work ahead.

Tartar sauce on fries.  It’s a Cincinnati thing.

Ever try vinegar on your fries?
Mark P
9:48
Vinegar yes, I like it depending on the kind of vinegar.  I'm not a tartar sauce fan.
Mayo on Fries

That would be like trading Babe Ruth!

I know, right?

Does Nick Gordon have any value at this point or would he be a supplemental piece to a potential Twins trade?
Mark P
9:52
He's putting up some good Triple-A numbers this year, which certainly helps rebuild some of his prospect stock.  I don't think Gordon would be the centerpiece of a trade for a major player, but he's certainly an interesting chip if Minnesota wanted to move him

Does Cleveland finally look to add a middle of the order bat, or is the billionaire owner still worried about money?
Mark P
9:54
The unspoken question about Cleveland's offseason payroll cuts is whether or not the front office has any room to spend at the deadline.  I'd guess no, in the sense of adding any really big contracts, but there are veteran hitters out there who can be had relatively inexpensively

You can’t trade Buster! Nobody wants him!

Who would step up for the dbacks closer position if Greg Holland continues his struggles?
Mark P
9:57
It's a good question.  Archie Bradley hasn't pitched very well, and beyond him, you've got Hirano, Chafin, and Yoan Lopez.  Not a lot of proven commodities there, and not much deeper in the pen or in the minors.

Arizona has enough other needs (mostly in the rotation) that they really can't afford to also address sudden problems in the bullpen as well.
In short, they need Holland to get back on track.

How patient will Mariner Nation be with DiPoto?
Mark P
10:00
There has been plenty of grumbling over the last several months, so patience is already running thin.  M's fans are understandably tired of waiting for a winner, but I do like a lot of the rebuilding moves Dipoto has made.  That Cano/Diaz trade is looking like a total steal for the Mariners at this point

Graterol, Lewis and kiriloff for scherzer...who says no, the Twins or the Nats?
Mark P
10:02
We made it over 90 minutes into the chat before we received the first Max Scherzer trade question!

Scherzer isn't getting traded.  Period.  The Nats are back in the race and, if anything, will be buyers at the trade deadline.
Jorge Soler
10:04
I know you guys refuse to cover me, but shouldn’t I be dealt before deadline?  I could hit 35-40 home runs this year and bring a pitcher in return?
Mark P
10:04
Our own TC Zencka wrote a big piece about Soler just a couple of weeks ago: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/06/mlbtr-poll-what-to-do-with-jorg...

You should have a 3rd option in poll.. Mayo goes on nothing ever!
Nope

Mayo on anything is a huge mistake.

are there 2 Austin adams pitching in mlb?
Cubs
10:08
what would it take to get Dee Gordon from the mariners? Schwarber?
Mark P
10:09
The M's seem willing to eat a lot of money just for the sake of moving their veteran guys, i.e. Jay Bruce.  The Cubs wouldn't have to give up nearly that much for Gordon.

Nice outing from Jeff Samardzija today. Does he have any trade value at all? Would a trade be worth it to the Giants for salary relief? Thanks Mark.
Mark P
10:11
He's owed $18MM next season as well, plus he has a partial (eight-team) no trade clause.  Shark could be moved if the Giants ate a lot of the money, but he's not a majorly hot commodity as a trade chip
Rip Tide
10:11
Tommy Edman one of those rare birds who actually performs better in MLB or this is just pleasant run.
Mark P
10:12
Every single season, the Cardinals seem to bring up an unheralded player who plays great the MLB level for a season or two before falling off.  It really is uncanny.
Abreu
10:13
Do I get an extension from Rick Hahn?
Mark P
10:13
Seems like it's just a matter of time before Jose Abreu and the Sox work out a new contract.  He wants to stay, they want to keep him
