I would find it hard to believe that Dombrowski or especially Cora would be fired just a year after winning a World Series.

So who do you predict relocates to Portland, The Athletics or The Rays?
Mark P
10:46
Of the two, I'd pick the Rays.  There's at least a decent chance the A's stay in Oakland, while I think the Rays are leaving Tampa as soon as that lease is up (or as soon as it can be negotiated away)

Does Cleveland seriously market Kluber this offseason?  And if so, are teams scared off by his 2019?
Mark P
10:48
Trying to deal Kluber now would be a definitely sell-low for the Tribe, so I'm not sure they do it.  My guess is they pick up his option, and then hope he rebounds in 2020.  In that case, Cleveland can then decide to keep him for another pennant race, or maybe trade him at the deadline (i.e. the Bauer deal)

Do you think optimism for the Jays' young hitters is a bit overstated.  Vlad and Bo are great, but I don't really see that much upside in the rest ('maybe' Gurriel).  As such, should a seemingly risk-averse organization take a chance next year on Anthony Alford?  Maybe he doesn't amount to much, but there is upside there that I don't think Teoscar, Fisher, Mckinnie, etc possess (seems like a while before the Jays reach the level of the Raps or Bianca)

Frankly, it seems like the current Jays front office doesn't favor Alford much.  He's had trouble staying healthy and his minor league numbers aren't overly impressive, plus he's a holdover from the Anthopoulos regime.  It makes sense to give him some playing time this September since why not, but as a long-term piece, I don't think Alford is a fit.

Vlad, Bichette, Gurriel, and Biggio are the four Jays building blocks that look like good-to-great MLB players at this point.  Every other position player is a serious question mark.  I've already discussed the Jays' pitching needs in this chat, but Toronto still needs lineup reinforcements (or needs to find out what they really have in Jansen, Grichuk, Teoscar, Tellez, etc.) before moving towards contending

Do you think Yasmani Grandal will opt out of his contract? What kind of contract do you think he will sign?
Mark P
10:56
He's definitely opting out.  I wouldn't be surprised if he tops the four-year, $60MM deal he rejected from the Mets last offseason, since he'll no longer have a qualifying offer hanging over him

Should Cleveland trade Lindor since the basically admitted they won’t be able to pay him
Mark P
10:59
As long as the Tribe plans to contend in 2020 or 2021, trading Lindor is a very tricky move.  Losing him is such a massive hit to the lineup that you'd need to get some MLB-ready players back in the trade....but if a trade partner has such players already, they might not see a need to acquire Lindor.
It's not like moving Bauer, when Cleveland felt they had enough other pitching to compensate.  You can't replace Lindor's production and value so easily

Let's wrap it up for tonight's chat, thanks for all the questions!
