Donaldson to the angels make any sense? In my fan brain it does
Mark P
8:25
That would certainly make 3B a lot stronger than hoping Zack Cozart is finally healthy, or hoping Thaiss is ready to be a contributor at the MLB level.
My guess is that if the Angels do make a big splash (i.e. sign a QO free agent), it'll be to get pitching

Jake Odorizzi Chicago White Sox?
Mark P
8:26
Makes a lot of sense, White Sox have a strong need for pitching

Will the cubs trade bryant for a true ace? Or for prospects and use the money for an ace
Mark P
8:28
Bryant's grievance plays a big factor, as his trade value would certainly diminish if he only has one year of control left

The Mets have no (serious) money to spend. They have 2020 albatross contracts in Cano, Cespedes, Lowrie. They are in atough group. Is there any poasible compete-now strategy for them?
Mark P
8:30
I mean, the Mets have lots of money to spend, if the Wilpons remembered that they're a New York team.

But I see what you're saying, a magical payroll bump isn't likely to happen overnight.  I wouldn't say Lowrie or even Cano are total albatrosses since either could have bounce-back years in 2020, but if I'm the Mets, I'm exploring bad contract swaps to see if I can possibly get someone off the books

What do you expect the Brewers to do regarding Travis Shaw? He would make sense on a one year deal for the Indians if Milwaukee non-tenders him.
Mark P
8:32
My guess is Shaw would get a lot of attention as a free agent, since teams might figure his awful 2019 was an aberration.  So even though I think the Brewers would non-tender him, Milwaukee might be able to find a trade partner first, if there's a team out there that wants him bad enough to be willing to swallow the arb cost.

Any chance either Dodgers or Yankees Entertain Stanton for pollock deal and fillers?
Mark P
8:33
I can't imagine the Dodgers would have much interest in Stanton in the wake of his 2019 season

How bad is the next CBA going to be? Could we see a repeat of 94?
Mark P
8:35
I've got to say, I'm nervous about the possibility about a strike.  There seem to be a lot of hard feelings on both sides, and there won't be an easy solution to a new CBA --- players feel they got taken to the cleaners on the current deal, and owners won't want many changes to the status quo

Here’s what I think the A’s should do: 1. Sign a good defensive 2B (Sogard) to platoon with Profar and trade Pinder 2. Sign a good defensive CF (Dyson or Akiyama) trade Piscotty, and shift Laureano to RF 3. Sign a veteran catcher (Vogt or Martin) to backup Murphy 4. Get a couple good RP’s via trade/free agency 5. Try and extend both Semien and Chapman. Your thoughts?
Mark P
8:37
A lot of this makes sense to me, though maybe you keep Piscotty since I'm not sure if Dyson or Akiyama are real everyday options in CF (though Canha and Laureano can also handle the position in a pinch)
Blue Jays
8:37
From an outsider's perspective, this team is in a weird place. They've got some young stars but aren't good. Should they start spending hard this offseason or just tank again?
Mark P
8:38
I think the Jays will use 2020 as a further development year to make sure that their young stars (Vlad, Gurriel, Bo, Biggio) are actually stars, before investing any serious money in free agents

What World Series matchup would get the best TV ratings?
Mark P
8:39
Yankees/Cubs or Yankees/Dodgers, I'd imagine
D Money
8:40
Would the Jays have what it takes to trade for Whit Merrifield? Seems like a good guy to have at the top of the order for them.
Mark P
8:41
Whit would be a great fit (hey, a rhyme!) on a lot of teams, including Toronto.  KC wants a lot for him in any trade, however, and I'm not sure the Jays are quite ready to start giving up prospects for proven MLB talent
JC Collins
8:42
With the shake up of the front office, Jim Crane's comments about the luxury tax, do you see the Astros window starting to creep closed?
Mark P
8:42
Springer, Brantley, and Gurriel are all free agents after the 2020 season so yeah, there's a bit more urgency to win now for the Astros.
Connor
8:43
Given the Dodgers almost never go after high end free agents, especially ones that weren’t on their team the prior year, do Dodgers fans have any reasonable hope for a Cole or Strasburg signing?  Or should we just accept another Kelly level signing is the best we can hope to get?
Mark P
8:44
I'd imagine the Dodgers would be willing to break the bank on a special player they really liked, though I don't know if Cole or Strasburg (or Rendon, or Donaldson, etc.) are that player.

8:45
Mancini or Haniger who’s more likely to be dealt?
Mark P
8:45
I'd probably say Mancini, since the Mariners aren't likely to sell low on Haniger coming off his injury-plagued year.  But I kind of doubt either Mancini or Haniger are dealt this offseason, personally
Who says no?
8:46
Lindor for Hoskins, Haseley, and Bryson Stott
Mark P
8:46
Cleveland with a hard pass
Derek
8:46
Teams who might trade for Domingo Santana?
Mark P
8:48
Tough to find a market for him, since I think most teams probably see him as a player who should be DH-only as early as within the next season or two.  Teams looking for DH help will probably opt for more proven bats (players like Encarnacion, for example) before discussing a trade with Seattle

Can Fowler be moved to the Angels so he can be reunited with Madden?
Mark P
8:49
Don't forget that Fowler has a no-trade clause, but he might be willing to waive it for a change of scenery and a chance to play for his old skipper.

The bigger issue, however, is that the Angels don't really have a need in the OF.  I suspect they'll go with Goodwin in RF until Jo Adell is ready.
J.T Realmuto
8:50
Although I played well this year, was giving up alfaro and Sanchez worth it? The Phillies only have me for one more year.
Mark P
8:50
It'll be years before we can fully answer that question, as we'll need to see what happens with Alfaro and Sixto down the road.
8:51
But for now....heck yes it was worth it.  It's never a bad thing to get the best catcher in the game, and my guess is that the Phillies will be aggressive in locking Realmuto up to an extension

8:51
Should the new Pirates GM tear it completely down? Meaning deal Bell, Marte, anything not nailed down?
Mark P
8:52
I'm kind of torn on this.  A rebuild seems the obvious route, since the NL Central isn't getting any less competitive anytime soon, and the Pirates' window might already be closed.  That said, there's still some real talent on this club, and something as simple as new management (both in the dugout and the front office) might unlock something.
