What would Cardinals have to give up to get Mookie Betts?
Mark P
9:34
Red Sox would ask for Dylan Carlson at a minimum, and they'd probably at least start by asking for Flaherty as well.  Now, there is zero chance Flaherty would be dealt, and frankly I doubt Carlson goes anywhere either since the Cards are so high on him and Betts is only a one-year guy.
9:35
Cards have enough young talent that I could see them in the hunt for Betts, but they (and maybe no team) are not going to give up any of their truly prospects for just one year of Betts

Morning Mark, Do you see a fit in Toronto for Porcello and a trade possibility for Ray?
Mark P
9:37
Porcello sure, since he could be had on a one-year contract (maybe with an option for 2021) as an innings-eater and maybe a bounce-back guy.

Ray seems less likely, since he's only under contract for 2020 and the Jays aren't planning to contend this year

I want to have Lindor and  Clevinger on my roster for next season. Supposing Cleveland would ever do it.What would that trade look coming from the Padres?
Mark P
9:39
An absolute boatload of prospects and big league-ready young players.  The asking price would be so high San Diego wouldn't do it, and I don't think there's any way Cleveland moves Clevinger.  Plus, while Lindor obviously improves any team, so you move Tatis to second base this early in his career?
The funky bunch
9:40
The Brewers have some money to spend with Moose and Grandal coming off the books. Do you think they go after a top 5 fa starter?
Mark P
9:41
The Brewers have seemed resistant to the idea of spending big on pitching, and even if they have more to spend, they're certainly not getting into Cole/Stras money, and even Wheeler, MadBum, or Ryu might be a stretch

9:42
Braves should do which - sign moustakas, or trade for Marte? Probably not upgrading at both positions right?
Mark P
9:42
I'd tend to say Moose, since the Braves have quite a few CF options (Acuna, Inciarte, maybe Waters or Pache make a push)

Can you see Lance “Cy Young” Lynn being moved? I know the Rangers are trying to improve, but it could make some sense to deal him for young MLB position players. Teams like the Cardinals,Reds,Brewers,Twins...etc could be interested because he is cheap $ wise
Mark P
9:44
Probably doubtful, unless the Rangers get a real sweetheart offer to sell high.  Texas is looking to upgrade its rotation in particular, so moving Lynn doesn't make a lot of sense in that regard

Kris Bryant to dodgers for Lux, Verdugo, and a high pitching prospect?? yes or no?
Mark P
9:45
Cubs would probably pull the trigger on that, but the Dodgers certainly wouldn't.
Clint Frazier
9:46
Current trade value? Who wants me?
Mark P
9:48
Still pretty good value, even if his defense is an issue.  Frankly, the Yankees did nothing to help his trade value by so publicly calling out his defense, though Frazier didn't help himself either by not talking to the media after that one rough game.  Minor as it may seem, an incident like that can go a long way for some teams in evaluating makeup

Why does all of the big team fans think they can take luis Castillo for pennies on the dollar?
Mark P
9:50
I made the rookie mistake of questioning Luis Castillo trade offers earlier, and now I'm being flooded with even more of them, many of which are utterly absurd

9:51
What do you make of Liberty CEO saying the Braves will spend money? I don’t think us fans really believe that
Mark P
9:54
I question whether the Braves would ever make a huge splash for a guy like Cole or Rendon.  But shopping in the Bumgarner/Donaldson tier of free agents certainly seems within their purview.  If you're Liberty Media, surely you see the value in a temporary surge in spending that could result in more winning, longer playoff runs, and thus more TV ratings/tickets sold/overall interest and dollars for your franchise
Enrique Martinez
9:55
What player or players do the dbacks need to sign or trade for to get them back into the playoffs?
Mark P
9:56
An outfielder, some bullpen help, and one more quality starting pitcher.  Also, if the Dodgers were suddenly moved to the AL West for a few years, that would really help the D'Backs out a lot.

I know I had another question on John means but should the they trade him this off season?
Mark P
9:58
The Orioles should be open to trading anyone at this point, even players with five years of control like Means.  If it'll take the O's at least three years to rebuild and get competitive, there's no guarantee Means will still be productive when the club is finally ready to make the leap
9:59
That said, I think Means is one of the few semi-untouchables Baltimore has.  They do need pitching, and maybe with another nice reason, his trade value only improves

What could the Twins expect to get back in  a Rosario trade?
Mark P
10:01
Hard to say, since Rosario is a power-first player who doesn't offer much in the way of average, OBP or defense (though his glovework is kind of up-and-down from year to year, as per the major metrics).  If you're another team, why give up something substantial for a 30-homer type of hitter when power guys are more or less growing on trees these days?
Cashman
10:01
Is it actually a big tell how I said there is no restriction from ownership about spending this offseason?
Mark P
10:03
(Brian Cashman = Yankees GM)

I think saying a restriction was in place would lead to tons of bad ink from the New York media, so Cashman wouldn't say so anyway
10:04
In general, it's pretty rare for most front office or ownership types to outright say "we're absolutely going to spend" these days.  That's why John Middleton's "stupid money" remark got so much press last winter, when it was clearly an off-hand flippant remark
Carlos Beltran
10:04
Do I lose my job with the Mets before I manage a game?
Mark P
10:06
Front office or coaching personnel could be facing some penalties, but I don't see why particular Astros players like Beltran get any real heat from this scandal.  What is MLB going to do, suspend everyone who wore a Houston uniform from 2017-19?  That doesn't make sense.
Klentak
10:06
Which Cole do I get, Garrett or Hamels
Mark P
10:07
(Matt Klentak = Phillies GM)

I actually had both to Philly in the free agent contest, so let's hope it's a Cole-heavy winter in Philadelphia!
It’s too early.......
10:08
Do you know how to make a southwest omelette?
Mark P
10:08
My breakfast-making skills consist of a) opening the cereal box and b) pouring milk, so I'm not the one to ask for cooking tips

Twins have budget to sign both wheeler and bumgardner?
Mark P
10:10
They sure do.  Twins have very little future money on the books, so they are theoretically able to make such a splash if they wish (assuming Bumgarner and Wheeler wanted to pitch there)
