Happy holidays to all!  Let's fire up the hot stove for some baseball chatter!

What do you think the odds are Arenado is traded?
Mark P
8:23
Pretty slim, unless Arenado himself requests a deal.  And even then, the Rockies would have to find a team Arenado is willing to join (he has a no-trade clause), and is willing to take on most/all of his salary, and is willing to give Colorado some decent young talent
Dodgers-Indians Trade
8:23
Anything really happening...or just rumors? Chances of a trade?
Mark P
8:24
Cleveland has, understandably, set a very high price on Lindor, and I'd imagine probably an even higher price on Clevinger given his extra years of control and lower salary.  The Dodgers would have to give up a lot to get either player, and as of yet, they're unwilling to go that high.
8:25
From LA's perspective, remember, they might not feel like they *have* to make a move.  They're already an awesome team and a Series contender if they do nothing else between now and Opening Day.  So that might swing the pendulum in the favor of another team who is more desperate to make the playoffs and might be more willing to meet the Tribe's price

What do you expect Cubs to do this offseason?
Mark P
8:27
It really does feel like the Cubs are in a holding pattern until they get word on Kris Bryant's grievance.  It isn't expected to come until January, so it'll still be a while until the Cubs know if they have Bryant for the next two years (likely) or just through 2020
That one decision will obviously have a seismic impact on their planning, of course, so I can't blame them for waiting.  And it's not like there won't be teams still eager to deal in late Jan/early Feb, especially among teams who miss out on the top free agents

8:28
Mets make a bullpen move or two or just pocket the Cespedes savings?
Mark P
8:29
I would surely hope the Mets take this unexpected (to us, at least) windfall and re-invest in payroll
Vlad
8:29
Do you guys think the Sox will really go out and capitalize on the weakening division by shooting big on a Castellanos or Ozuna? If so, what kind of contract gets them? Or do you think they will just go Edwin and a couple of bullpen guys to finish up?
Mark P
8:30
There's no real reason they couldn't get Edwin AND one of Castellanos/Ozuna.  Why not go big, if it seems the Indians are moving some of their star pieces and the Twins haven't made a big pitching upgrade?
PadSquad
8:31
Why wouldn’t a Wil Myers for David Price swap work?
Mark P
8:31
The Sox might not have any interest in Wil Myers
JP
8:32
Did you see Star Wars?
Mark P
8:32
Caught the new movie the other night and enjoyed it!
Giants
8:32
Chances Castellanos actually signs with us?  It not, who makes the most sense?
Mark P
8:33
I'm a bit skeptical about the Giants/Castellanos rumors.  Not that they wouldn't have interest, but any NL team trusting Castellanos to man their spacious outfield might be making an error
If the Giants are willing to make a big outfield addition, Ozuna makes more sense
8:34
If perhaps only a bit more sense
Derek
8:34
As currently constructed, do you think the Phillies can win the NL East?  If not, what player would put them over the top?
Mark P
8:35
I don't think any one player would necessarily do it, since their pitching staff and bullpen have so many questions
AM
8:35
What are the possibilities the brewers sign Donaldson and Ryu
Mark P
8:35
Getting one would be a big surprise.  Getting both would be one of the larger shockers in recent memory
Baseball guy
8:37
Any chance angels trade for Price. If so what is the cost
Mark P
8:38
There's a chance, sure.  I think such a deal would cost the Halos (or any team) only money, depending on how much of Price's deal they're willing to take from Boston
CoreyDickerson
8:39
How come there isn't more interest in me?
Mark P
8:40
Ozuna and Castellanos are still around in the top tier of the corner OF market, not to mention guys like Puig or Calhoun.  Dickerson will start getting more looks once the bigger names come off the board
Clif
8:41
Is AA done this offseason?
Mark P
8:42
I don't think you can ever rule Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos out from making moves.  Plus, it's only December 22....lots of time for more transactions
Dodger blockin
8:42
Would it be worth taking one on the chin, as in losing value in a trade if The Padres acquired Lindor, then flipped him simply to block the Dodgers?
Mark P
8:43
Padres front office: Ha, great job guys!  We stopped the Dodgers from getting Lindor!  Now they'll only finish 20 games in front of us next season instead of 25!
In short, no, the Padres don't care about things like that
Josh
8:43
Thoughts on Cron and Schoop to Tigers?
Mark P
8:44
Couple of nice veteran signings, didn't break the bank....I like both moves for Detroit
Sam.
8:44
Pam or Karen?
Mark P
8:44
Team Pam all the way.  Pam and Jim are soulmates, come on
Bernie Brewer
8:45
The past several years teams like the Brewers and Giants have waited until Jan/Feb and then go bargain shopping to fill their needs. Did they both wait to long this year?  What’s available to fill Brewers needs at 3 and Pitching?
Mark P
8:46
It seems like first base is already spoken for, between Smoak and Ryan Braun.   Pitching-wise, it's hard to project, since Milwaukee is seemingly content to always just cobble together a staff and lean hard on their bullpen rather than land a surefire top-of-the-rotation guy
