Hello, friends
Soccer starts soon, and my kids are super into it, so no time to waste
1:01
Let's baseball!

Thank you for the chat. Want to jump on but that strikeout rate is gross in AAA. No brainer add in dynasty but redraft?
Nicklaus Gaut

I mean, if the investment is small, it's always worth trying for some lightning in a bottle
1:02
but there is a LOT of whiff in his game, so I'd expect any of this hypothetical lightning to be short-lived

I need to add a pitcher to my NL 10 team 5x5 squad. Just to show you how bad the choices are, my top 2 options seem to be Lake Bachar or Ryan Rolinson. Would you pick one of them or just sulk until the NFL starts playing?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:02
I actually don't mind Bachar for NL-only

He can’t retain PCA next year and he is playing for next year, is a trade of Eldridge/$9 for two more years in an NL only 260 league a fair offer?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:03
I think it's a fair offer but suspect your partner might be riding too high on PCA's June
but it's a fair deal considering circumstances

Does Mlod ever make back to the rotation or is lust a long reliever ROS? Could he be a future closer?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:03
barring injury, I doubt it
1:04
and he would be a very unconventional closer, me thinks
way too many hits, not enough whiffs

Hey, Nicklaus. 8-team 5x5 NL-only house league. Looking to 2027. I can keep $1 S. Horwitz and $4 TJ Rumfield at 1B and CI. These two and several other cheap keepers would allow me to go for 3-4 big dog OF hitters available next year (J. Wood, Ohtani, Turang, etc.). Would you keep both Horwitz and Rumfield?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:04
Yes, but with the caveat that it definitely leads to getting the big guns
1:05
in a 12-team, it wouldn't be a question, but you really need some stars in an 8-team if relying on those two relative (to league size) scrubs

Does Bergman turn things around this or this what I can expect ROS?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:06
I wouldn't get my hopes up for too much more
I mean, surely he won't be below replacement level all season, but jeez
dude gets worse at hitting breaking pitches every year, and he's really getting punished for it
1:07
career low fastball%
career high breaking%
it's almost like there's a book, or something

A lot of the talk right now is on accelerating when players can access more money (e.g., being paid better for productive years under arbitration). Have the players & owners ever discussed an age at which one would automatically earn UFA status vs. a service time structure? Probably a non-starter, but having UFA status at 28 or 29 no matter when your MLB service time clock started would be interesting--perhaps most for guys who stay in college longer, players who have lost years in the minors due to injuries, and MiLB players who are just blocked by their MLB-club's position counterparts.
Nicklaus Gaut
1:07
it has been discussed a few times
1:08
but the owners wanted it at ~29, for everyone
which the players wanted no part of
it might work but it would need to be an "either/or" system instead of a straight age limit
Gage Wood?
1:09
Could the Phillies promote Gage Wood by the break? He looks like he’s on the rise while smoothing his rough edges.
Nicklaus Gaut
1:09
I'd say unlikely
wa-aay too much whiffery

Thoughts on Jump so far?  I'm about to hit a roster crunch when some guys come off the IL but I'm leaning towards keeping Jump anyway.  Fair or foul?
Nicklaus Gaut
1:09
Yeah, gotta say I was too low on him
1:10
I've come around a lot, fastball is playing much better than expected
I'd keep him

He’s no defensive whiz, but would Agustin Ramirez make sense as a Yankee catcher backup?
Nicklaus Gaut

doubftul
their staff needs good defenders and the yankees already usually go with defensive with their backup
