Rodney signed a Major League deal to close with the Padres. He wouldn't have taken a minors deal to set up in Toronto. You could make the claim that any number of clubs should've signed Thornton on a minor league deal, though the Padres gave a pretty notable base and incentives package.

Dodgers rotation has taken a few big hits already. Will they make a move for another starter?
Steve Adams

They already have so many options in the rotation even you write Anderson off for the whole year. Kershaw, Kazmir, Wood, Maeda, Beachy, Bolsinger... Ryu and McCarthy rehabbing, Anderson maybe getting back this summer... I wouldn't hold my breath for any kind of high-profile signing. Maybe another veteran on a non-roster invite.

Is Morneau's concussion history a significant factor it him not being signed?
Steve Adams

Yeah, has to be. It's a pretty scary thing, really. I watched him for all those years in Minnesota and read the stories of his symptoms and struggles. The concussions more or less destroyed his entire life for a couple of years. It's particularly scary that he grew up playing hockey and was drafted as a catcher, so who knows how many undiagnosed concussions he's had in his time?

Do you think David Freese would come play for the Brewers if i offered him a 1 yr 8 million dollar deal? I think it would work for Freese and the Brewers
Steve Adams

I think he absolutely would, and I'd endorse it for the Brewers, too. We'll see what happens with Scooter Gennett's shoulder. He's not making progress on the injury he has and just had an MRI; if he's going to miss some notable time, that could mean Hill getting regular reps at second and more potential playing time for Freese at third base there.

How much playing time will Steven Pearce get this yr? Major sleeper or part time player?
Steve Adams
4:12
Part-time player, but I love that signing for the Rays. Pearce has batted .258/.339/.482 and averaged 28 bombs per 162 games over the past three seasons. I thought he had a case for a multi-year deal this winter. He should be a nice add to their lineup even if the 2014 stats were mostly a fluke.

Ok, I've gotta wrap this up. Thanks for chatting, everyone. I'll do another one next Tuesday, and Jeff Todd will be chatting on Thursday afternoon. Take care!
