MLBTR Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson: 5/26/22

Brad Johnson
2:02
Hey folks, I'll give it a couple minutes for questions to start rolling in
Daro
2:03
What to do with Trevor Rodgers in a 12 team league? Do you expect him to turn things around?
Brad Johnson
2:03
It's not looking good right now. In my opinion, he needs time in the minors to rework his release point and get his changeup back.
2:04
I'd sell low or straight up move on, as painful as that is.
When you can point to such a clean issue as different release points for his pitches, it really doesn't seem like one of those things that's going to click
Greg
2:04
Is it time to give up on Kyle Hendricks?
Brad Johnson
2:05
He's killing me in a couple places and I just can't quite press eject. These are deep formats though. Get away from him in 12-team mixed.
Jason
2:05
Mayer or Lawlar in dynasty keeper league?
Brad Johnson
2:06
I've been partial to Lawlar all along.
I think he's quicker to majors and has a more fantasy-oriented profile.
2:07
But we're splitting hairs, they're both excellent SS prospects. I wouldn't pay more for one over the other.
Vinny P
2:07
When will I get some ABs in Kauffman?
Brad Johnson
2:08
I was talking to Matt Eddy yesterday about comps for Pasquantino. We didn't really come up with a good one. I had Goldy with a bunch of caveats. He suggested Youkilis with more caveats.
2:09
It's a weird situation because they're 14-28, but I also think they're a playoff caliber club.
2:10
They can play out the string, try to get Carlos Santana types hot at the right time, and maybe get out of some of those contract commitments. Or they can pivot hard and hope using Melendez, Pasquantino, and Isbel does more for them than their original vet corps
2:11
To answer your question, I think the answer is within the next 14 days or after the trade deadline.
Can try stashing him day-to-day until you need the bench spot for something else. Hope the promotion happens while you're holding him.
Do Not Draft List
2:12
What to do with Semien? Which pitchers should I target in a 1 for 1 swap of disappointments?
Brad Johnson
2:12
Alex Cobb?
I bet you could get a Dany Jimenez tossed in with that.
Lemme see if there are other slackers I think are fine
2:13
Nate Eovaldi, Charlie Morton, Jose Berrios, Nick Pivetta
Os Fan
2:14
Hall or Rodriguez both get the call up this year with Rutch? If so are they worth stashing in such a competitive AL East?
Brad Johnson
2:14
Yes, we'll see them both. I'm hoping Rodriguez is half of this doubleheader on Saturday. Doesn't seem like there's anything left for him to do in the minors. If he's not up now, then they're trying to avoid the Super 2.
2:15
Hall's on a slower path because he has so few pro innings under his belt.
Might just be an Opener or reliever type this year.
Frank Lo
2:15
Is there any trade market for Joey Gallo?
Brad Johnson
2:15
Depends on the league. He's on plenty of waiver wires in 12-team mixed.
2:16
Huge buy for me, assuming your roster is jiggered to absorb his AVG.
Jessie
2:16
Should I sell high on Calhoun? I have adequate OF depth but need help in batting average. Typical 12 team non keeper league
Brad Johnson
2:17
Yea, if it's even possible. He's just a typical waiver guy on a heater.
Charlie
2:17
Should I hold on to R.Contreras, what’s his future looking like?
Brad Johnson
2:17
It's a bright future, depending on your time horizon. Seems like they're going to manage him very carefully this season.
2:18
I'd hold for now and keep an eye on his usage.
20 batters like last time out is acceptable. Much less than that and 5 IP is a tall ask.
Red Sox
2:18
Does Triston Casas gets the call this to the big leagues?
Brad Johnson
2:19
Presently, he's sidelined with an ankle injury (I think)
He is on pace to debut this year. Especially if neither Dalbec nor Franchy take off.
Casas isn't banging down the door - something like a 116 wRC+
2:20
Cordero has a pulse, Dalbec does not
