MLBTR Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson: 5/26/22
powered byJotCast
Never Too Much Pitching
2:20
John Schreiber is not a name I am familiar with, but he has put up great numbers in limited innings so far this year.  In a S+H league, should he be picked up, especially with Boston's offense coming to life and producing more opportunities for saves/holds?
Brad Johnson
2:21
Depends on your league depth. That bullpen's so messy that he could emerge with saves by virtue of not melting down every time he's put in leveraged work (like some other well-known names)
Not so sweet Lou
2:21
Are we fans of Christopher Morel? See the playing time being there for him consistently?
Brad Johnson
2:22
Seen a couple Morel questions. I don't have any special insights into him. The statistical output in Double-A didn't scream immediate production. Lot of whiffs too.
Lady Luck
2:23
Prospect stash order for:, Lewis, Busch, Vargas, Pasquantino
Brad Johnson
2:23
Lewis, Pasquantino, no pref.
Seiya
2:23
2 months in, what's the floor/ceiling looking like?
Brad Johnson
2:23
I think we're basically seeing the floor right now
2:24
Borderline passivity pushing up strikeouts, power output isn't going over the fence.
2:25
Upside remains borderline superstar. Like .280/.380/.500
JK
2:26
panic level for Morton?
Brad Johnson
2:26
I'm not too concerned. My expectations are lowered to more in the high-3s ERA range going forward. That's more an aging adjustment than a direct response to his performance.
2:27
Don't react too strongly if the Phillies trounce a quality SP. They were supposed to be the second-best NL offense after all.
Strider
2:27
Spencer Strider: Future closer or #3 SP?
Brad Johnson
2:27
Scouts tell me closer
mark cantha
2:27
what's your expectations for Gabriel Moreno when he's called up?
Brad Johnson
2:28
Eventually, I think he does a little bit of everything. Could be on a JT Realmuto path. Right now, he's not hitting for power. Just 1 HR and 8 2B in 117 PA (28 1Bs).

Thoughts on Luis Garcia of the nationals? I know he just injured his hand, but he’s been raking and seems like he would be valuable in both average and on base percentage leagues? If he got shortstop and second base eligibility how good could he be? He’s only 22 years old.
Toby
2:29
When will the Nationals call up Garcia?  What are they doing having Strange-Gordon trotted out at SS everyday?
Brad Johnson
2:30
Guest answered Toby, I think.
He has a wrist injury, I don't have more detail than that.
2:31
I think we shouldn't expect more than a league average bat from him - and in a way that plays down in fantasy
i.e. few HR and SBs
Gimenez
2:31
Worth holding in 12 teams mixed H2H categories?
Brad Johnson
2:31
I don't think so.
Dow
2:31
Will Martin Perez keep up the fantastic production?
Brad Johnson
2:31
I don't think so.
2:32
I'll elaborate on this one a bit - I'm just not finding a "thing" he's doing better besides maybe command. And I don't think that's enough for him. He hasn't allowed a home run yet, and he'd be pretty bland with his normal home run rate.
Jim
2:32
Would you trade Benintendi for Kyle Wright?
Brad Johnson
2:33
Yes. I wouldn't do it the other way though.
Barring just excessive need or some quirk of format.
George
2:33
Would you let go of Marquez?
Brad Johnson
2:33
In 12-team mixed, yes, I think you can go look for better. Or at least stop taking the heartburn pills every 5 days.
Junior
2:34
is it worth keeping Doval?
Brad Johnson
2:34
Absolutely.
Francis
2:34
Larnach hit a pretty loud home run the other day.  With LF being quite open, does he get the playing time to be fantasy relevant again?
Brad Johnson
2:35
In the short term, perhaps. As you note, he's probably the best of the slop they're throwing
They need to make room for Lewis soon which could push someone else into the mix.
2:36
Kirilloff's had some good games recently.
Celestino's hot enough to keep playing too.
