Anthony Franco
4:46
Hey everyone, looking forward to another chat!
4:47
Going to have to keep this one tight to an hour because of the Hall of Fame announcement, so I'll try to move through the questions a little quicker than usual
We'll get going in a minute once the queue starts to fill up
Unknown but Handsome MLB Executive
4:48
Do you think that we'll get a 162 game season?
Ted Danson
4:48
Do you think part of the season is delayed?
Anthony Franco
4:48
Wow, a handsome MLB executive and Ted Danson!
I remain cautiously optimistic we don't lose regular season games, although a delay to Spring Training feels inevitable at this point
Kevin
4:48
Do you see the Cubs trading Contreras and who would be the best fit for him?
Anthony Franco
4:49
Yeah I think he'll go. The Gomes signing seemed to be the writing on the wall there
4:50
Giants could be a fit if they're worried about Bart having too heavy a role next season, wouldn't entirely rule out the Red Sox
Sean
4:50
What does your gut tell you about the landing spots for Story, Bryant, and Suzuki?
Anthony Franco
4:50
Story -- Astros
Bryant -- Mariners
Suzuki -- Giants
Carlos Correa
4:50
Where will I be playing this season ?
Anthony Franco
4:51
Man, I really have no idea
4:52
I lean Phillies at this point, I guess. If they and the Yankees are really dead set on sitting out the top of the market, maybe Boston or the Dodgers becomes the best fit
Cubsfan
4:52
Correa is going to be playing in Chicago right ?
Anthony Franco
4:52
Also possible, although I still think that might be pushing how aggressive they truly want to be this winter
Ken
4:52
I don’t care how you view it, these meetings are a HUGE step in the right direction.
Anthony Franco
4:53
Yeah, at least they're starting to move towards the midpoint (albeit still slowly)
Lars
4:53
Is the owner's willingness to miss games their way of saying WE actually have the slight leverage here?
Anthony Franco
4:54
I think it's mostly a truism. Of course they're going to say they're willing to miss games. If they weren't eventually going to say that, then there'd be no purpose in locking the players out in the first place
4:55
Saying something like "we really feel we need this done by February 10 or we're going to crack" would be pretty bad negotiating strategy
Harry Doyle
4:55
How many repeat division winners will we see?
Anthony Franco
4:55
Good one, I'll go with three
(Astros, White Sox and Brewers)
Bill
4:56
Do you think either or both of Bobby Witt, Jr. and/or Riley Greene start the year in the majors if the service time issue is resolved so as to not save their MLB team any dollars by holding them back,
Anthony Franco
4:56
I think they both would in that instance but don't expect the service time consideration to actually get meaningfully figured out
Even something like tossing teams a compensatory draft pick for starting a top prospect on the roster doesn't strike me as enough of an incentive
4:57
I'd rather have one year of Riley Greene if he turns into a star than the possibility for six years of, say, the 45th overall pick
Stan
4:57
What will the Guardians do with their convoluted 2B/SS situation? Any of those guys traded for needed OF help?
Anthony Franco
4:58
I could see a situation where they move Rosario but I don't know that any of those guys has enough value to bring back a controllable outfielder who's an obvious regular either
Harry Doyle
4:58
Will Knebel be the Phillies closer?
Anthony Franco
4:59
Doubt it. Knebel said he doesn't care much about the ninth inning and the Phils didn't promise it to him
I think they're still going to add another high-leverage bullpen arm in some capacity who might take the ninth and push Kenbel into the mid innings
Andy
4:59
Does the Baez signing take Detroit out of the box for Correa?
Anthony Franco
5:00
I think so. Correa, Báez and E-Rod would be so much in one winter
Obviously, you could find a way to play all those guys. But that kind of single-offseason expenditure for a team is pretty rare
Peter
5:01
Will ST start in February or March?
Anthony Franco
5:01
My best guess is they'll report in February but actual games won't start until March
L Scott
5:01
When things resume, which contenders are most likely to add some top end pitching?  Angels and Yankees?  Thanks
