Not sure anybody "needs" him, but the FA class for catchers is pretty uninspiring, which could make Hedges more valuable in a trade. However, as someone who doesn't really hit, he's not likely to bring back much.

I don't know if they'll hand out any big long-term deals, but a short-term signing or two (3 years or fewer) for a good amount of money could happen. Donaldson re-signing? Could certainly explore big trades too.

GM Brodie Van Wagenen has insisted that's not going to happen. We'll see whether he's lying. If the Mets really want to push for the playoffs in 2020, they should probably keep Syndergaard.
