Welcome to today's chat. We'll start in a couple minutes.
David Stearns

Is my offseason now officially over?
Connor Byrne
4:04
You can never close the door on minor league signings/waiver claims/small trades, but I think the Brewers' heavy lifting is done. I like the JBJ and Wong signings.
Cardboard Cutout
4:04
Do the Astros go and sign Odorizzi now, or are they too worried about going over the CBT and feel they have enough in-house?
So many Angels in outfield
4:04
Odorizzi’s landing spot?
Connor Byrne
4:06
The CBT is a big concern in regards to the Astros. I was looking at their Cot's page a little while ago, and the team is roughly $13.5MM under. Odorizzi could land around that figure on his contract, so it would be a challenge to sign him and stay under. It's always nice to leave some wiggle room for in-season acquisition. All of that is to say I doubt he goes to Houston if the club's really bent on ducking the tax. The Blue Jays continue to look like a good fit to me, but you never know which other teams' starting staffs will suffer injuries in the coming weeks. Maybe Odo will continue to just wait it out.

My bestfriend Adell looks like a complete bust. Should we trade him right away?
Connor Byrne
4:08
I know Adell was bad at Triple-A in 2019 and in the majors last year, but it's still not a big sample size, and he's barely old enough to drink. I'd hold off on calling him a bust.
4:09
We're talking about a combined 65 games. He destroyed Double-A in 2019.
Bhambrave
4:09
do you think Odo would consider another one year pillow deal for $18M-$19M, or is it multi-year or bust?
Connor Byrne
4:10
After the season he had last year, I could definitely see him taking that type of deal if it's out there
The Show
4:10
What is a likely expectation of this Mariners rebuild?
Connor Byrne
4:10
I think they're a year away from pushing for the playoffs; that's assuming they're active next offseason
Nolan/Goldy
4:11
How good will these two be back to back?
Connor Byrne
4:12
Pretty dangerous. Just as Goldy came back to life last year, I think Arenado will rebound this season.

Is it just me or is the Yankees rotation a red flag? The only certainty is Cole...yet so many projections are fond of the chances that it all clicks
Connor Byrne
4:14
It's absolutely a risky group. Kluber looked good last night, but you never know if he or Taillon will hold up. Same goes for Severino whenever he returns. They've got some promising young guys (Garcia, Montgomery, King, Schmidt, etc.), but they're not locks to succeed. Cole's the only sure thing. It's a high-reward bunch, though.
Doc
4:15
Which unexpected team will make the playoffs this year?
Connor Byrne
4:16
Are the Angels unexpected? I could see it coming together for them.
I'm not predicting they'll make it, but I wouldn't find it crazy
red sox
4:16
how good are they
Connor Byrne
4:17
Better than last year's disaster, but still not a real threat
Rich M.
4:17
Who’s the Closer in San Diego?
Connor Byrne
4:18
I could see a Pomeranz/Melancon/Kela timeshare situation
Andy
4:19
would A’s be hands down favorite Out west if they sign odorizzi?
Connor Byrne
4:19
I don't think there's going to be a hands-down favorite in that division going into the season, no matter where Odo goes
maybe I can say "going/goes" some more
Alex Kirilloff
4:20
Am I the likely AL RoY this year?
Connor Byrne
4:20
Not my pick, but not a bad choice
RenalRickets
4:20
Could the Phillies be in on Odorizzi? Unpopular opinion, but I think the Phillies had a better offseason than the Mets.
Connor Byrne
4:21
As with the Astros, the luxury tax is a concern. The Phillies have even less space, per Cot's
$11-some million
4:22
and I think the Phillies had a middle-of-the-road offseason. I'll take the Mets' winter.
4:23
minus the Porter fiasco
give me a minute while I post this Jose Castillo news
4:25
back, sorry
Inciarte or Gregory Polanco?
4:26
Who would you rather have on your team for next season?
Connor Byrne
4:26
Polanco
Ron Swanson
4:26
People are saying the Brewers paid too much for defense with JBJ. Did everyone forget the Jason Heyward contract with the Cubs?!
Connor Byrne
4:26
They may have overpaid by a little bit (I think we at MLBTR predicted 2/20), but it's a fine deal overall. Not a lot of risk there; JBJ should live up to it
