Last weekend's chat was put off due to the nonstop flurry of end-of-Spring Training roster moves, but we're back with a vengeance this week!  Let's take some questions....
Gleyber Torres
8:25
Am I really the long term answer at SS?
Mark P
8:26
Probably not, in my view.  Obviously the Yankees will give him every opportunity this season and maybe even next to stick at short, but with so many shortstops available in free agency next winter, you wonder if NYY will be tempted to make a move if Torres has another rough defensive year.
8:27
Of course, that does create a bit of a positional logjam with Torres and DJLM at second, plus Voit at first.  But, the Yankees might also consider that as falling into "good problem to have" territory
Owens
8:27
Whale of a game happening in Milwaukee tonight....
Mark P
8:27
Yep, if you're a fan of good pitching, check out this Twins/Brewers game
RoxTalks
8:28
What would the return would a possible Story+Marquez package get?
Mark P
8:29
At least as much as Cleveland received for Lindor/Carrasco
Caden
8:29
Are the Astros contenders this year after starting the season 3-0?
Mark P
8:30
Houston was generally a consensus choice to make the playoffs, preseason
Kira
8:31
Where do you think the All-Star Game will get played this year?
Mark P
8:31
I have no idea if this would be logistically possible.....but having the game at the Field Of Dreams in Iowa would be pretty cool.

8:32
When does Soto get extended?
Mark P
8:33
He isn't a free agent until after the 2024 season, so there isn't a huge rush for the Nationals just yet.  If Soto has another big year in 2021, it isn't really going to change things --- the Nats already know it'll take a record amount of money to extend him
Incredible false hope
8:34
Any reason why Shane Greene still hasn't been signed? Is it injury or bad projection concerns or is he asking for too much?
Mark P
8:35
Maybe a combination of both, though there's been so little buzz about Greene this winter that it's hard to gauge.  It could be that he was holding out for a Major League contract and was only getting non-guaranteed offers.
Thomas
8:37
Do you think Kenley Jansen keeps the job the entire year? If not? Who do you think takes over?
Mark P
8:38
My guess is that LA would move to a closer-by-committee system.  They're already trying to be as flexible as possible with their pitching, so that might as well extend into making situational calls for the ninth inning.

It would be a fun full-circle moment for David Price if he ended up closing games, however

Am I a trade piece at the deadline if Cleveland is not in the playoff hunt?
Mark P
8:40
Quite possibly.  I think the team will be open to pretty much anything at the deadline, short of trading Bieber or any of the younger guys with a whole lot of control.  Probably not a Jose Ramirez trade either, Cleveland would want to wait for the offseason to get a wider range of suitors

8:40
How long do the Jays give Vlad Jr at 1st this year?
Mark P
8:41
He's only 22, I can't imagine the Jays will make him a DH-only type this early in his career.

Frankly, after watching today's game, the thought that crossed my mind was "how long do they give Bichette at shortstop?"
Metsfan
8:42
What happened to the great braves lineup? 2 runs combined in 2 games? MLBTR writers claimed the braves were the team to the beat in the East, lost two so far to the phillies
Mark P
8:43
I mean, it's been two games.  Still a little early to write off Atlanta's batters.

Besides, the Mets haven't even scored a single run yet during the 2021 season!
Mama Know
8:44
Sssshhhhh.....are you not watching dueling perfect games right now: MIL (Burnes) vs. MIN (Berrios)...into the 6th??
Mark P
8:44
Burnes had a HBP, so it's "only" a no-no on his end
Lunar verLander
8:46
After seeing teams play a total of MAYBE 3 games, what's the best hot take you've heard?
Mark P
8:46
We're seeing a whole lot of them in the comments queue thus far, let me tell you.
8:47
There's one commenter basically already planning the World Series parade through downtown Detroit
8:48
Sorry, brief pause in the chat there to post the news that the Nats have signed Jonathan Lucroy
Carl
8:49
Berrios also has a HBP
Mark P
8:50
I stand corrected!  So only a dual no-hitter going on, yawn
Bryce
8:50
Arrieta doing Arrieta things. Could he be an actual trade piece?
Mark P
8:50
If the Cubs fall out of contention, sure.  But obviously the team is hoping to be adding pieces at the deadline rather than selling.

8:51
When was the last double nono after 9.. and by who?
Mark P
8:52
Hippo Vaughn and Fred Toney was the only one, if I recall my baseball history correctly.  That happened at least a century ago, so we're clearly due.
Ties
8:54
I think it's more obvious that the Cubs are lining up for a sell-off in June/July.
Mark P
8:55
It's possible the team could try to thread the needle and be both buyers and sellers at the deadline, but if the Cubs are in the thick of a playoff race, I don't see them throwing in the towel.
Vegas Line

Pitchers make fewer starts and don't go deep in games anymore.  That means fewer CG and No Hitters. Over / under for No hitter this decade
Mark P
8:56
On the contrary, I actually think we might see more no-hitters, if anything.  Just of the combined variety.
