Bit of a later chat than usual this evening, but c'mon, surely we're all staying up to watch another Dodgers/Padres game, right?

Let's dive into some questions....
Andy
9:18
What’s it going to take for the Yankees to turn it around?
Mark P
9:19
Getting the Rays moved to the NL East, seemingly.

But really, the Yankees are fine.  It's only the middle of April.  It seems like they have slow starts pretty often, actually, and then heat up and make the playoffs as always.
Brewers
9:19
Do the Brewers have the pieces to trade for Trevor Story?
Mark P
9:21
In theory yes, depending on a few factors.

* the Brewers' farm system isn't particularly deep, so Milwaukee would have to be willing to strip it even further for parts to make such a trade
* how the Rockies (known for their somewhat odd player-evaluation methods) feel about Milwaukee's prospects and if there's a possible match
* whether the Rockies will actually trade Story, even though it seems glaringly obvious that they should do so

Any news on Neil Walker?
Mark P
9:21
Nope.  It's been crickets about him all offseason.
Cardinals
9:22
Whats it gonna take to get John Means from Baltimore??? How starting pitching is horrible.
Mark P
9:24
I say this all due respect to John Means, who is a perfectly decent MLB-caliber starter.  It says something how upset Cardinals fans are that Means is being seen as a big upgrade.

Means is controlled through 2024 so I can see the O's wanting a pretty solid return for him, with the caveat that Means is a mid-rotation type rather than anything close to an ace.
Twins Fan
9:25
What kind of return would the Mets need for DeGroom?
Mark P
9:26
If you're to made-up pitcher Jake DeGroom, probably not much, since he doesn't exist.

If you're talking Jacob deGrom, the Mets are definitely not trading him.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure Jake DeGroom still gets more run support than Jacob deGrom.
Heliot Romos
9:27
How long of a leash does Mauricio Dubon have?
Mark P
9:28
Dubon has had all of 23 PA, I wouldn't write off his season by any stretch.  Bigger picture, however, I do have some worry that the Giants' desire to maximize Dubon as a multi-position type or as a center fielder might have been a bit of a roadblock to his development, rather than just sticking him at 2B and letting him play.
Brian
9:29
Hi Mark, when do the Mariners call up Kelenic? And do they finally have a realistic shot at winning the division?
Mark P
9:31
By a shocking coincidence, Kelenic will be fully ready to join the majors just a day or two after his service-time window for a seventh year is secured.

I don't see the M's really contending over the long run but stranger things have happened.  It'd be fun to see them as a Cinderella team.
Cinderella
9:31
Who's my team this year?
Mark P
9:32
Um, maybe the Mariners?

I'm not sure if KC is a total Cinderella since I think a few people had them as a dark-horse playoff contender, but it would be cool if the Royals quietly just snuck up and overtook the Twins, White Sox, and Indians atop the Central
Ohtani
9:33
Any chance we ever see Ohtani move to DH duties everyday & pitch as a short inning reliever/closer?
Mark P
9:35
There's certainly a chance, if he can't stay healthy enough to regularly make rotation turns.  It would be an interesting wrinkle via late-game DH usage and lineup maneuvering, but Joe Maddon is born for this.
Champdo
9:36
Who do you think the Tigers could get the most for at the deadline?
Mark P
9:38
Boyd is doing a nice job of rebuilding his trade value thus far. I kind of wonder if the Tigers would be so bold as to trade Jeimer, since he's only controlled through 2023, and it depends on when the team thinks its rebuild will end.
Yeah, what he said!
9:39
You go crazy for super 2 coverage, but barely mention it’s   service time manipulation day. What’s up with that?
Mark P
9:39
Was that today?  I'll have to bring it up in my next rotary club speech.
Ford Frick
9:41
Any possibility the new CBA will include 2 expansion teams? Possibility 25-40% maybe? More jobs for players, some kind of consolation/compromise for Minor league contraction.
Mark P
9:42
There was some speculation that the owners could turn to expansion teams (or fees, more accurately) as a way to get some quick revenue back after 2020's losses.  But, the counter to that is that some owners don't want to lower their 1/30th cut of broadcast revenues into a 1/32nd cut over the long term, since that would cost them more money ultimately than a one-time 1/30th cut of two expansion fees
Injuries
9:43
Does it seem like more injuries for so early in season?
Mark P
9:43
I don't have an IL days list in front of me, but it sure feels like it's an above-average injury year so far.  Of course, this was totally predictable in the wake of a shortened season.
John W.
9:44
Your opinions on the new Atlantic League rules?
Mark P
9:46
For context: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/04/mlb-move-mound-back-double-hook...

I like the "double hook" concept, in part because it's such a cool name.  But I really hate the idea of moving the mound back, and throwing off the traditional distances and structure of the baseball diamond.
Ryan
9:46
What do YOU think is the reason Jacob deGrom gets no run support, even when compared to the other Mets starters?
Mark P
9:47
It is truly one of the major oddities of recent baseball history.  Part of me thinks it's psychological by this point, since there seems to be no logical explanation why the Mets (normally a decent-to-good hitting team) consistently have their bats go cold almost every time he's on the mound.
Santander
9:49
Am I likely seen as a trade piece before the deadline to make space for the other outfield prospects?
Mark P
9:49
Most definitely.  If anything, I'd be surprised if Santander isn't dealt this season.
Zach
9:51
Do the brewers need to pick up a bat with the injuries to Cain,Yelich and Wong
Mark P
9:52
Based on today's game, no.  It remains to be seen just how long-term any of these injuries might be (Yelich's doesn't seem overly serious), however.
Stephen
9:53
Are the Pirates exceeding expectations in the early part of the season?
Mark P
9:53
Expectations were so rock-bottom for the Bucs that yeah, a 6-8 record seems like a fireworks display
John
9:54
Would the Orioles trade John Means this season? Or would they hope he’s part of the future?
Mark P
9:55
The O's have made it clear they're willing to move virtually anyone who isn't Adley Rutschman.  They'd certainly trade Means for the right offer.
Adam
9:55
Don’t you just love Playoff baseball in April???
