I think we'll see at least one more no-no (in a nine-inning game) before the season is out.

You play any baseball video games, Mark?
Mark P
11:42
I'm not a big video game guy in general.  The last baseball game I played with any regularity was the old Ken Griffey Jr. game for the Super NES, way back in the day.  (And that game was awesome.)

A morning Sunday chat!  Yowza!  I think someone wants to watch football later.....
Mark P
11:47
Ha, I'm saving the football-watching until my shift is over.

fwiw, I usually try to time the weekend chats for periods that tend to be slow, transactions-wise.  Since I always hate having to pause the chat to report on moves, I either run the chat in the evening (when most of the games are over) or early in the 9:30AM-10AM ET area, before the flurry of pregame moves come for the 1PM starts.

First year HOF selection for David Ortiz, or will he not make the cut for being "just" a DH primarily?
Mark P
11:48
I think Ortiz gets in by his second year of eligibility at the latest.  He's a beloved figure and basically the icon of this era of winning Red Sox baseball, not to mention his ability to hit even into his final season.
Pujols
11:49
Pujols hasn't exactly raked since signing with the Dodgers, but shown he's at least a serviceable bat off the bench with some spot-starts thrown in. Think he hangs it up after this year, or tries to stick around?
Mark P
11:49
Pujols' ability to mash left-handed pitching might have extended his shelf life by a season, especially if the NL does adopt the designated hitter next year.

Max Meyers and Sixto Sanchez for Jared Walsh and Brandon Marsh. Who says no?
Mark P
11:50
The Angels, considering Sixto just had shoulder surgery
Cohen
11:50
Mets started out great this year but have really fallen off. If I'm Cohen, what am I prioritizing this offseason?
Mark P
11:53
First and foremost, get a new president of baseball operations from outside the organization who can get some fresh perspective (and probably clean house of current staffers).

On the field, the rotation has to be the first question to be addressed, between deGrom's health and all of the free agents.  Re-signing Stroman is likely the top priority, given how well he has pitched.

Please for the love of all things holy - please tell me AA will resign FF…
Mark P
11:54
I still think a deal will get done.  It's just been more complicated than any fans or pundits assumed it would be.

What should I do to keep the tigers fans happy this off-season?
Mark P
11:56
(Avila = Tigers GM)

Pretty simple --- make a big signing.  Landing one notable or even a star player on a pricey multi-year contract would firmly announce that the Tigers are done rebuilding, and reignite fan interest in the Motor City.

Must be nerve wracking for the Pads to see Tatis back at short
Mark P
11:57
Naturally the team wouldn't be letting him play if they thought it was too risky for his shoulder.....but yeah, there are definitely some fingers being crossed in San Diego.

That's it for me this morning, thanks for all the questions!  Back next weekend with likely another earlier chat on either Saturday or Sunday, so stay tuned1
