Time for another chat!  Fire away with any questions about the postseason, the offseason, free agents, trades, what I'm eating for dinner tonight, etc.
Tylor
7:30
I’ll bite - what’s for dinner?
Mark P
7:30
Rigatoni

....I didn't say the answer was going to be interesting, did I?
Mr. Met
7:31
Any update on names for the Mets front office? Are they really going to whiff again in their search for a PBO?
Mark P
7:31
Josh Byrnes and Dodgers assistant GM Brandon Gomes were the latest names mentioned on the rumor mill, but it's most just speculation at this point.
Eric Gagne
7:32
if the dodgers make the World Series will they have home field advantage because of their record?
Mark P
7:32
Correct.
John
7:32
There’s been some online chatter about a potential Julio Rodriguez extension before the ‘22 season begins - do you think it’ll happen?
Mark P
7:34
As Kevin Mather (inexplicably) told us, the Mariners are very keen on locking up top prospects to pre-career deals, and they already did so with Evan White a couple of years ago.

So I wouldn't be surprised at all if the M's had already had some talks with Rodriguez's camp, though it would take a good chunk of money (north of Robert and Eloy's deals) to get an extension dnoe
done
7:35
Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Rodriguez's camp holds off until they see what the new CBA is like.  No point in potentially signing away extra years if the six-year wait for free agency is reduced.
Hmm
7:35
Does Correa eclipse 300 mil?
Mark P
7:35
Quite likely
Brady
7:36
Should I be worried as a Cards fan that the “philosophical differences” mean the front office philosophy will be to not sign one of the free agent shortstops or a legit starting pitcher which are both needed?
Mark P
7:37
That's not really something that the manager would necessarily have to be worried about, so I doubt that's the root of the Shildt firing.  It's an odd situation, however.....feels like there's a lot more to be revealed with that story
The Opener
7:37
Where should The Rays send Kiermaier for starting pitching?
Mark P
7:38
MLBTR's Steve Adams recently wrote a subscriber-only piece breaking down the logic behind a possible Kiermaier-for-Kimbrel trade, which makes some sense for both sides.
John
7:39
Could the Orioles bring in Zack Greinke?
Mark P
7:39
This close to the end of his career, I don't see why Greinke would want to join a rebuilding team when he could join a contender
Jon Daniels & Chris Young
7:40
Would Nelson Cruz on a 2 yr deal be a good fit for a Rangers squad that needs a vet presence and cleanup hitter?
Mark P
7:40
Same idea as Greinke/Orioles, Cruz wants a ring.  Texas looks to be at least a year away from contention, let alone being challengers for the World Series.
Rockies fan
7:41
Who on my team gets a QO and who accepts it if they do?
Mark P
7:41
Story will definitely get a QO and definitely turn it out.

Gray is very likely to get a QO and I'd guess will likely turn it out, but accepting it wouldn't be totally out of the question.
Ryan S.
7:42
I'm all for rewarding your own guys, but if St. Louis picks an "in-house" guy, with zero experience, they don't want a manager, they want a puppet. Jeff Albert is terrible, and why are they protecting him?
Mark P
7:42
That's the odd thing about this Shildt firing.....Shildt *was* that in-house, longtime organizational figure.
7:43
Not to say that Shildt was in any way a front office puppet, to be clear.
Royalsfan
7:44
Is Mike Matheny gonna be fired?
Mark P
7:44
Hey, Shildt is now available!

More seriously, there haven't been any rumblings about a managerial change in KC
Jeff
7:45
hey guy, with the Guardians "freeing up" some extra dollars for 2022 what are the chances of them signing Kyle Schwarber?
Mark P
7:46
Schwarber will get a nice contract this winter, probably just on the borderline of what Cleveland will be willing to pay out.  It's possible he might be outside their price range, but Schwarber would be a great fit for that team
Anthony C.
7:47
Detroit says it will have money to spend. Do you think free agents will really see Detroit as a destination or will they use Detroit to up the price from the team with which they really want to sign? Even worse, do you think Detroit will have to overpay to get free agents to sign there? I can't wait to see your free-agent predictions to see how many you guys pick to actually sign with the Tigers.
Mark P
7:48
If the money is right, any player is willing to consider a location.  It's not like Detroit is some unusual place or play, and it wasn't that long ago the Tigers were perennial contenders.

Depending on the player, some free agents also might embrace the challenge of being the face of this new era of Tigers baseball.
Kiké Hernández
7:49
Should the Red Sox give me a contact extension?
Mark P
7:50
At this rate, Hernandez might be able to ask for $300MM more readily than Correa.  What an incredible playoff hot streak.

btw, Hernandez only signed a two-year contact with Boston last winter, so an extension might indeed be in the works this winter
Padre Pete
7:51
MacKenzie Gore - you buying or selling?
Mark P
7:52
His struggles over the last season are a big red flag.  If I'm a team in trade talks with San Diego, I'd be too wary before taking Gore as the centerpiece of a deal
John
7:52
Is Brett Gardner a yankee next year?
Mark P
7:53
I feel like I'll still be answering "is Brett Gardner a Yankee next year" questions in 2031
Fabio
7:53
Is the the year the Brewers trade Hader? He is probably the best bet the Brewers have for finding a quality bat or two.
Mark P
7:54
If the offer is right, the Brewers would move him.  But that offer would have to be a true premium, as even with Hader's rising price tag, he is still such a valuable weapon out of their bullpen.
