Happy Thanksgiving to all our American readers!  Before the turkey and stuffing is served, let's dive into some baseball questions.

12:21
any update on kimbrel?
Mark P
12:22
Nothing yet in the way of concrete reports.  Teams might wait to call about Kimbrel after some more of the major free agent relievers are off the board.
Cory
12:22
Do you think we'll see any of the 5 big SS sign before 12/1?
Mark P
12:23
I suspect yes, but maybe only one at most.  The FA market has definitely been more pitching-heavy in terms of signings rather than position players thus far
Matt
12:24
think a Didi for Price swap could make sense if the Dodgers don't add a SS?\
Mark P
12:24
Price to the Phils is probably likelier than Didi to the Dodgers, just because I think L.A. would just have Trea Turner move back to shortstop.
Not sure it's a great fit either way
tc
12:24
Do you think Joey Bart will start opening day for SF?
Mark P
12:25
Yes, barring injury
Astros fan
12:26
I keep reading about estimates of what it would take to sign Carlos Correa in the range of 10 years 300 million+.  Is it possible that no team is willing to shell that out, and he resigns with the Astros for far less than estimates predict?
Mark P
12:27
I do ultimately think someone will bite on $300MM (or close to it) for Correa.  His market surely won't collapse to the point that the Astros will feel comfortable jumping in, since it seems like their ceiling might be $200MM at most for anyone.
Now, that said, you can still make some nice signings if your ceiling is "only" $150MM-$200MM.
Twins fan
12:28
Please tell me your post that the twins might be interested in re-signing Simmons was a really late April Fools’ joke
Mark P
12:29
November Fools' Day?  That post from earlier today suggested the types of short-term shortstop adds the Twins might favor, and Simmons is on that list, though I agree that it probably doesn't seem too likely he returns to the Twin Cities

12:29
Should I stop addressing starting pitching now after signing Steven Matz or should I get another starter? Does it make sense to resign Kwang-Hyun Kim?
Mark P
12:30
Kim is in a sense more valuable to the Cardinals than to other teams since their defense is perfectly suited to help groundball pitchers.  To this extent, I wonder if STL thinks they can re-sign him relatively easily, or if they think there isn't a big market for his services.
Arte Moreno
12:30
Should I blow through the budget and sign both Scherzer and Stroman?
Mark P
12:31
Since it's not my money, sure!  Why not
Jon Becker
12:31
Makes perfect sense that we haven't seen more position players sign due to lack of DH clarity, but at the same time is there any real reason for a Schwarber-type to wait if someone offers exactly what he's looking for?
Mark P
12:32
No, if a player gets the right offer from the right team.  I'd imagine that several players would love to get their new contract squared away now and avoid any possible confusion from a lockout, roster freeze or a mad signing scramble after the freeze is lifted.
Fall Ball
12:32
What would a package for John Means and Cedric Mullahs look like? What team might be willing to give my O's that deal?
Mark P
12:33
I don't think Baltimore packages them in the same deal, since either are so valuable enough on their own.  If you put them into the same deal, another team would have to cough up probably 5-6 prospects/MLB-ready young players, which is a major haul for even the deepest teams to part with
Alex
12:34
I haven’t heard much about the Rays being in on many free agents, do you think they get any of the mid tier starters?
Mark P
12:35
I doubt it.  The Rays are more apt to bring in a pitcher via trade, or make a signing in the lower-tier of one-year types (like Wacha, Archer, or Hill last year)
RAYS/REDS TRADE
12:35
Reds send SS Walls and a controllable bullpen arm for Red’s Sonny Gray.  Thoughts?
Mark P
12:36
This is the type of pitching move I can see Tampa making.  Gray makes $10MM in 2022, which is a little higher than the Rays would likely prefer to pay, but maybe after last season they're a bit more open to having a proven veteran starter on hand
FAN
12:37
Where is Marcus Stroman going, could the Cardinals have a shot at him
Mark P
12:38
As much as he'd make sense in tandem with that Cardinals defense, Stroman hasn't been officially connected to the Cards yet.  The teams who have been linked: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/marcus-stroman-drawing-widespre...
It's also possible that Matz will represent the Cardinals' biggest pitching acquisition of the winter.
Redbird fred
12:39
What do you think about Steve Cohen’s remarks about Matz signing with the Cards?
Mark P
12:39
I really don't see the logic in Cohen airing his grievances in public like that.  (This is Thanksgiving, not Festivus!)
grw
12:40
Probably have to swap Didi for a dead money contract, like Oberg [doing his rehab in Philly].
Mark P
12:41
This is possible, but maybe not Oberg specifically.  Seems like the Rockies already have him more or less lined up for a coaching role if/when Oberg chooses to retire: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/injury-health-notes-britton-obe...
Michael
12:41
What’s the big deal with Freddie wanting a 6th year? Him and the Braves eventually seal the deal right?
Mark P
12:42
Paying players big money into their 30's is always a risk, and I can understand the Braves' hesitation to pay for an age-36 season but not an age-37 season.  However, I do ultimately think something will be worked out between the two sides.

12:43
do the red sox and marlins make a swap? maybe duran for sixto?
Mark P
12:43
They make sense as a fit, but not for that specific trade offer.  I'd imagine the Sox aren't willing to give up Duran for a pitcher coming off as injury-plagued a year as Sixto.  Boston would want a surer thing, and the Marlins have plenty of other interesting young arms to offer.

What’s more likely. A 2022 Tigers winning record. Or the Lions winning this game today?
Mark P
12:44
Given all the turmoil with the Bears, today might be the day for the Lions' first win!
