The last weekend of chat of November, and....before the lockout?  For more pleasant thoughts, let's dive into some baseball questions

Angels gonna do anything soon?
Mark P
9:05
Does hiring Phil Nevin and Wayne Kirby for the coaching staff count?
And signing Syndergaard, more directly.  But the Angels do need more than one arm, and starting pitchers are flying off the board.
ORIOLES
9:05
Will Mullins really be traded or is that just posturing by the Orioles to increase demand?
Mark P
9:06
"Posturing" is the wrong word.  They're open to hearing what other teams have to offer for Mullins, but I'm sure what was true prior to a few days ago.  Just because the O's listen to offers doesn't mean they're prioritizing moving Mullins, nor will they trade him for anything less than a king's ransom

i have a feeling Danny Duffy might be the steal of the off-season.  Why isn't he getting more attention and what contract #'s do you see him getting?
Mark P
9:09
Duffy is coming off an injury that ended his season early, so between that, his age (33 next month) and the fact that he was only ok prior to 2021, I'm not surprised his market hasn't been burning up.

We have him as one year and $10MM in our projections, which seems reasonable for a veteran arm with some health concerns

Who do you think the Brewers are going to go after?
Mark P
9:09
Has to be hitting.  I actually thought Canha seemed like a pretty good fit for them before Canha signed with New York.
9:14
Had to pause to get a post up on the site....the Blue Jays sign Yimi Garcia to a three-year deal

Happy Thanksgiving Mark.  With the signing of Matz does that mean the Cardinals are out on Mad Max?
Mark P
9:16
I would guess yes

I think it's smart if the Cubs just picked up a couple of cheap players and saved their $$ when they have more MLB ready prospects
Mark P
9:17
It wouldn't be a bad strategy, since as weak as the NL Central is, the Cubs aren't exactly one or two players away from leaping back into contention.  That said, if they inked a star player to a long-term contract now, that would be an investment for a season from now when more pieces are in place

Reds are currently a sub-.500 team. Why wouldn't they trade grey, Castillo, and mahle. It's either that or extend them
Mark P
9:19
If the Reds trade everyone, that's a hard reset and another 3-4 years before they can regroup to contend at all.  The team is trying to thread the needle to some extent, in trying to cut down payroll while not throwing in the towel entirely on contending

We've heard the rangers news on hitting and Starting pitching, but in my opinion they need a bullpen arm, do you think they could target a guy like Iglesias?
Mark P
9:20
The Rangers do need help in a lot of areas, but spending big on a closer might not be their top priority.  Relief pitching is fungible enough that they might save a bigger investment in a closer until they're a bit closer to truly contending.

How much of a concern is the potential lockout for teams? How many more moves/signings do you see happening before December 1st because of it?
Mark P
9:21
I think we might be in for a real flurry of stuff before the December 1st deadline.  Between the non-tender deadline moved up to the 30th and all of this free agent/trade uncertainty, it could be a wild few days

Get Olson in Miami!! What would that take?
Mark P
9:22
One premium pitching prospect, one good but not quite top-tier arm, and maybe Garrett Cooper to give the A's an MLB-caliber player at first base.
9:23
The Marlins do have the depth to bump that second pitcher up to a better-than-2nd tie arm, which can help them in the Olson bidding

Any rumors on potential landing spots for Seiya Suzuki? And how does a possible lockout affect his 30 day window?
Mark P
9:26
His 30-day window pauses when the transactions freeze begins, which creates kind of an awkward situation for negotiating purposes.  If I had to guess, teams really into Suzuki have already presented him with concrete offers in anticipation of the freeze, so he'll have something to think about during the lockout.

If Baez goes to Detroit and if the Mets are out on him, what are the chances of the Blue Jays signing Carlos Correa?
Mark P
9:27
Doesn't seem like a great fit, since the Jays have been pretty insistent on Bichette remaining at shortstop.  Correa might be a guy who changes positions in some years down the road, but not now.

Do teams lose trade leverage when they sign a bunch of FAs? With the Mets, does McNeil/Smith/Davis lose value or does that get offset by any value gained by FA they signed early?
Mark P
9:28
I don't think it'll hugely impact the leverage either way, since the Mets still don't have to deal any of that trio.  Keeping them all for depth purposes is an option, and not a bad one considering the NL DH, injury risks, and not knowing what Cano will bring

Do Carlos Santana or mike minor get traded to clear salary space (and clear the way for nick pratto)
Mark P
9:30
That would make a lot of sense for KC, perhaps a part of a bad contract swap.
Jon Becker

where are you seeing three years for Yimi? Baerga's post doesn't say so
Mark P
9:30
That was a mistake on my part, I saw the "three" as part of Morosi's description of Baerga and got things turned around.  It's been fixed on the site, my apologies.

Watching the Beatles Get Back?
Mark P
9:31
It is absolutely on my watchlist
Rays

What was the purpose of moving Luplow? He was affordable and Rule 5 draft is over and the prospect we got back doesn't seem more than a lotto ticket
Mark P
9:32
The Rule 5 deadline hasn't happened yet, last week was just the deadline to set rosters in advance.  Players can still be moved off the 40-man or signed to it.

As for the move itself, Luplow did well in his small sample size but as always, the Rays probably figure they can do better at a lower cost

Why would the Mets reportedly not want Stroman?
Mark P
9:34
It might not necessarily be that they "don't want" him at all, but rather just prefer other pitchers.
