It's not totally out of the question that the Red Sox trade Bogaerts before the season, in what might be less of a shocker than it seems.  If they know he's going to opt out, they could move him and then land another shortstop (signing Story, maybe, or even Correa is more of a reach).

However, I think Boston just hangs onto him since they want to contend in 2021, and if he walks in free agency, he walks.  The Red Sox would still get some kind of compensation back, even if the qualifying offer system will be no more in the next CBA

Where does Barry Bonds rank within the greatest of the game all time?
Mark P
12:40
Minimum top five, and he has a case as #1
Draft Picks
12:42
Would some teams take an approach similar to how Baltimore used to approach international bonus pool money, where they would trade the slot for a prospect or two?
Mark P
12:44
Maybe, except the Orioles' old stance against international spending was due to (reportedly) the lack of in-depth scouting for some int'l prospects, and the general crapshoot involved in committing millions of dollars to 16-year-old prospects.

Teams are much more willing to commit to domestic high schoolers or college players, and it's easier to scout and evaluate said players.

If Bonds is in te "top 5" who are the other 4?
Say WHAT!?
12:45
You’re telling me that Bonds is better than Ruth, Griffey, Mays, Robinson, Aaron, Cobb, Mantle, and DiMaggio? That’s ridiculous.
Mark P
12:45
My top five is Ruth, Mays, Bonds, Aaron, and Musial.
Do the sox

Extend Abreu this off-season despite the multitude of 1st base good bat types? If so,  who gets traded.?
Mark P
12:47
Abreu strikes me as ChiSox for life, and both he and ownership have said as much.  My suspicion is that he gets another extension.

That’s a strong top 5 but where are the pitchers?
Mark P
12:50
I group position players and pitchers separately in "best ever" discussions since the skillsets are just so different.  That said, part of the reason I have Ruth #1 is because he was both an unreal hitter and a very good pitcher.
Bending the rules

Do you think that the introduction of the full year of service for finishing in the top 2/3/X of award voting would solve the Kris Bryant problem? Surely the teams would hold someone in the minors long enough to ensure they don’t get chance to compete for RoY (like how Gary Sanchez lost out)?
Mark P
12:52
Agreed, but I think the awards/service time thing was tied to a team being awarded with an extra draft pick if they had a player win the ROY/Cy/MVP.

Do you think yadi and waino play another year if they don’t break the all time battery record because of this ridiculous lockout?
Mark P
12:53
Wainwright has never said he's retiring after 2022, so his chances of a return are still possible.  As for Molina, I don't think he would've announced his impending retirement when he did if he wasn't already sure that 2022 would be it for him
