The weekend chat is here!  Let's take some questions...

Will Sosa stay at SS for Cards?
Mark P
9:04
If Carlson joins O'Neill on the IL, Edman could get more time in the outfield, thus creating more shortstop time for Sosa.  Donovan is in the mix and the Cards will want to find some time for him, now that Gorman should be playing every day at 2B

Do you think we will see Corbin Carroll this season and if so, when?
Mark P
9:05
Probably a September call-up?  Keep in mind, Carroll barely played last year due to injury and didn't play in 2020 due to the canceled minor league season.  So if he keeps tearing it up, he'll get the call eventually, but it also wouldn't be shocking to see the D'Backs just keep him in the minors to focus on getting some game time under his belt

Best team in New York?
Mark P
9:06
Probably the Rangers, big win today in Game 3

Is there any truth to the Padres possibly trading Snell or Darvish? Especially now with the Clevinger news.
Mark P
9:06
You can never entirely rule out an AJ Preller deal, but a starter deal is probably even less likely with Clevinger hurt.

Any possibility that the Royals call it quits on the Dayton Moore era? Does something like that usually happen at the end of the season?
Mark P
9:08
Moore only signed an extension less than two years ago, and already got a promotion (up to president of baseball ops) just last winter.  As much as KC is struggling, Moore seems to have a lot of leeway to try and get things on track.

Why do you time weekend chats when I play softball?
Mark P
9:09
"Adam!  Why'd you miss that fly ball?"
"Sorry skip, I was texting this guy on MLB Trade Rumors to ask about their scheduling."

Is it just me, but are the Giants really boring? Longtime Giants fan here, but they have no name recognition or interesting players.
Mark P
9:10
Yeah, nothing duller than a 107-win team

With the 4 game sweep of Mariners, are the REDSOX Trending back towards playoff relevency Is Barnes going back to stopper role or is it still a closer by committee
Mark P
9:13
I suspect it'll be a closer committee unless Barnes really starts stringing together several quality outings.

And it was foolish to write off Boston after just a month.  Too much talent on that team.

Could the Phillies trade Aaron Nola? I don’t think he’s worth the $$ that he’s going to want as a free agent. Rather get something for him than nothing.
Mark P
9:16
I don't think the Phils are going to move Nola unless they were to absolutely crater over the next two months.  Even then, Nola is controllable through 2023 via a club option, and I don't see the Phillies embarking on another multi-year rebuild.  Even if they stumble this year, they'll try to win in 2023

When does O'Neil Cruz get the call? Pirates have started to promote their prospects as of a few hours ago. His batting average doesn't look great but he has started to put it all together recently.
Mark P
9:17
I predict he'll be up before the end of June

Will we see some Steinbrenner-esque panicking by Cohen ordering Eppler to get the Mets some help?
Mark P
9:18
The Mets already have enough of a cushion atop the division that there's no reason to panic.
I have no doubt the Mets will be active at the deadline, but they're not going to rush into anything now
Jays fan
9:18
How is it possible that the Jays have the worst batting average with RISP? When should Jays fans start to be concerned?
Rob
9:18
I know May trades are hard, but the jays probably waited too long to address their terrible bullpen last year.  Can they upgrade a struggling offence any faster this season?
Mark P
9:20
It's a tough call for the Jays, since who do you move from the everyday lineup?  Espinal (who's been one of their only consistent bats) or Kirk?  Gurriel, in a bigger-tier move?

If you'd told me six weeks ago that offense would be by far the Jays' biggest problem, I would've been shocked.  But they've consistently had at least 5-6 hitters completely ice cold at any given time, and even their best guys haven't really gotten truly hot

Who wins a world series first, the Reds or the Marlins?

Angels could use an upgrade at their middle infield positions, do you think they trade from their surplus of outfielders like Marsh or Adell?
Mark P
9:22
Seems like Adell has become the more expendable of the two.  As much as the Jo Adell trade pitches are a running joke in this chat, it isn't out of the question that the Angels would deal him....it would just need to be for a major MI upgrade
Met rics

Panic is SOP for the Mets.
Mark P

Fair point
Movie Night
9:23
Who should get their own biopic?  Pete Rose? Rickey Henderson? Gooden?
Mark P
9:24
I would love to see a Rickey Henderson biopic, done entirely as a comedy.  Get the Lonely Island guys on this, aren't they Athletics fans?
Mike
9:24
Weekly request for Soto thoughts. Likelihood? Price?
Mark P
9:25
I find it hard to believe the Nats would move him, even amidst all of the talk of a possible sale.
Tyler
9:25
Which outfielders should the Mariners target at the trade deadline? Upton most likely isn’t the solution.
Mark P
9:26
First and foremost, the M's need to get on a roll.  Right now it doesn't seem like they'd even be buyers at the deadline, and there's already a lot of daylight between Seattle and Houston/LAA
Rod
9:27
Mark, do you see the Brewers acquiring a bat? It's tough to watch some games.
