A little of this, a little of that, we'll talk about it all in the weekend chat.

....but, like, it'll mostly be baseball topics.  Onto the questions!

Do you think we will see Taj Bradley debut later this season?
Mark P
9:18
I lean toward yes.  The Rays have shown they're willing to promote top prospects and immediately put them into big situations, so if they think Bradley can help them in the playoff push, he'll be up.

Everyone is killing Gallo and rightfully so, but IKF has been atrocious at the dish too. Any chance the Yankees look for a SS in the deadline?
Mark P
9:20
Probably not, since Kiner-Falefa is valuable with his glove moreso than his bat.  Plus, IKF was expected to be a defense-first player, so any offense provided would've been a bonus.

One month until the trade deadline. What's the biggest need for the Braves?
Mark P
9:23
Assuming Albies is back in August, maybe just some outfield and bullpen depth?  The Braves can't assume Harris will keep it up for the rest of the year, or that Acuna can stay healthy, or that Ozuna/Duvall will eventually click at the plate.

Good thing the Braves have a good track record of finding outfielders at the deadline!
I guess I'd add starting pitching to that list as well, though that may be less of a need since Strider looks for real

Are the White Sox going to hug their prospects at the deadline at the expense of improving the current MLB roster?
Mark P
9:26
Chicago's system isn't very deep anyway, but since a good chunk of their best prospects are at least two years away, it's possible they could move part with a couple for win-now moves.

The Sox are in a bit of a difficult spot, since they might not have the prospect depth to make any huge swings at the deadline, unless they more or less clean out their system.

Please help settle a disagreement I have with a friend!!! Prime Griffey Jr. vs Prime Trout? Who ya’ got?!?!
Mark P
9:27
Who'd you prefer?

Ken Griffey Jr. (prime years) (53.2% | 516 votes)

Mike Trout (prime years) (46.8% | 454 votes)

Houston could use a RH power bat DH/corner OF/1B type to strengthen the bench and for injury insurance.
Mark P
9:29
I'd say a left-handed bat is the bigger need, since Houston is already deep with righty swingers.  But yeah, a first baseman to spell (or even replace?) Gurriel could be a need, even though Gurriel has hit a bit better in the last few weeks

How severely has the failed stadium deal with Anaheim hurt Arte Moreno? Any chance he'll try to sell the team? (Asking for an entire fan base)
Mark P
9:31
I don't have the Angels' schedule in front of me, but didn't their losing streak start almost exactly on the day Anaheim broke off the stadium deal?  New curse alert!

Anyway, there hasn't been any indication about a possible sale, or whether Moreno might just move the Angels somewhere else in SoCal, or if another stadium deal in Anaheim is still possible.

What would I have to offer the Tigers to get Fulmer/Chafin/Soto? (Any and/or all)
Mark P
9:34
Fulmer is probably the least-expensive, as a pending free agent.  Chafin is owed $7MM next year but he has an opt-out, which he might well take given how well he's pitching.

Soto is controlled through 2025, and so he'd have by far the highest price tag.  Keep in mind --- Detroit isn't tearing things down.  They surely must think they can rebound from this year from hell and win in 2023, so they aren't likely to be moving longer-term assets like Soto.

I’ve seen a lot of chatter about how outfielders like Bennintendi and Happ are available, but haven’t seen much on what it’d likely cost to acquire them. You have any guess on what a package might look like?
Mark P
9:36
Happ is controlled through 2023, so he'd cost notably more than Benintendi.  KC should be able to command a decent prospect or two, if not necessarily a top-100 type.  (Maybe a fringe 90-100 guy.)
Fredbird

Cards never sell the farm at the deadline, so who is a realistic arm you see them picking up? Fulmer?
Mark P
9:37
Fulmer makes a lot of sense for St. Louis.  I'd think a starter would be on their list, givenall the injury questions.
Er, given all

Nolan Gorman. Future 30+ home runs?
Mark P
9:38
I like his chances.  It should be noted that Gorman has really cooled off in the last month or so, but his future looks awfully bright

Anything you guys can do about the spam/scam posts that have been infecting every comment thread for weeks?
Mark P

I share your annoyance.  We have spam detectors that monitor as best they can, but it's like playing whack-a-mole.

Does Ramon Laureano get traded?
Mark P
9:40
Laureano is arbitration-controlled through 2025, so he isn't at the top of Oakland's list of trade candidates.  But, since the A's are open for business on pretty much anyone right now, I'm sure Laureano would be moved for the right price.

I'd lean towards no at this particular deadline, but maybe this winter
Ross A.
9:42
Moreno, Groshans, Pearson for Reynolds and Bednar. Do you think the Pirates would have interest?
Mark P
9:42
That trade package might not even get Reynolds, based on how sky-high Pittsburgh's asking price reportedly is
JD Davis & Dom Smith
9:44
Were we really just 1 year wonders? Or could we be at least average major leaguers given adequate chances?
Mark P
9:46
Both have more than one good season, so "one-year wonder" doesn't really apply.

Davis/Smith are in tough situations, since they're both basically in playing-time limbo for a team that seems to have already decided they're not their first choice.  I do think either could play better with more consistent time.

Not sure if my first attempt went through; apologies if this is a duplicate. Have you heard anything about the extent of the Zach Davies injury? I haven't been able to find anything since he was put on the IL.
Mark P
9:48
No word on anything more serious than inflammation, though "only" inflammation can still put a pitcher out for several weeks if his shoulder keeps feeling sore.

Im feeling the heat, who do I pay, who do I trade, from Eovaldi, Bogaerts & JD?
Mark P
9:50
I don't even think it's a hot take for me to say this, but I think all three are gone.  The Bogaerts' decision seemed to be made as soon as Story was signed, I don't see the Sox wanting to pay top dollar-ish money for an aging player becoming a DH-only guy, and with Eovaldi, I wonder if the Sox fear a repeat of the Chris Sale situation.  Eovaldi's health track record makes him a risk for another big contract.....Boston may already feel they've dodged a bullet, to some extent

We all start talking about Jorge Lopez and he blows two saves. Would a rough July hurt is trade value?
Mark P
9:52
Definitely.  Keep in mind, Lopez hasn't pitched particularly well apart from this season, which was probably already going to impact what the Orioles could expect back in a trade.

I'm still hoping for an Angel comeback, but, if it doesn't happen are both Nevin and Minasian toast?
