It's time for the weekend chat!  Let's open up the digital mailbag and see what the MLBTR readers have to ask as we enter the last stretch of the regular season....
Guards 4 Life
7:51
You believe the guardians have any chance to win a series against any of the wild card teams?
Mark P
7:52
Every team should be worried about facing red-hot Cleveland at this point.  Just a great job by the Guardians to close things out in standout fashion.
Future Reds GM
7:53
mark why does it feel their are a huge number of minor league free agents this year? Does this have anything to do with last years lockout?
Mark P
7:53
The lockout definitely created a backlog of player movement over the winter, leaving a lot of guys having to settle for minor league deals, or not finding deals at all until after the season had started
Dodgers Rotation
7:53
What do we look like come post-season?
Mark P
7:54
Dave Roberts addressed this today, saying that the top three are Urias, Kershaw, and Anderson.
7:55
After that, I would guess it might be a free for all, with Gonsolin limited to four-inning outings at best.  But, the Dodgers do have Heaney, Grove, May if he's healthy, and the whole bullpen on hand.
Clayton Kershaw
7:55
Any chance I really sign with the Rangers? Or is that just ridiculous banter by the writers ?
Mark P
7:56
When a player is almost certainly only going to sign with one of two teams, it isn't "ridiculous" to speculate about either, even if I would imagine the Dodgers are the favorite.
Hazen
7:56
what do the Dbacks do this offseason? except for bullpen upgrades which is obvious..
Mark P
8:01
D'Backs face an interesting winter, as they have a lot of good position player pieces in place (Marte, Walker, Varsho, Carroll, Thomas, and Kelly if Varsho remains mostly an outfielder) plus Josh Rojas as kind of a super-util.  I would think SS and 3B could be target areas, but maybe for a short-term veteran since Lawlar is in the longer-term answer.  One more veteran starter would also help.

Unloading Bumgarner and Ahmed's contracts would be nice, if probably unlikely outside of a "bad contract swap" arrangement or if the D'Backs dealt away a prospect, which probably isn't likely.  Still kind of feels like Arizona is at least one year away from being proper contenders, but they've been pretty competitive in the second half.

Does my idea of luxury tax penalties being waived if you win the WS have legs?
Mark P
8:01
The big majority of teams would balk at that rule change.
A. Judge
8:01
Do I tie Maris? Break his record?
Mark P
8:02
I would be pretty astounded if Judge didn't get at least one more homer between now and the end of the season.
(I held off on posting this question until Judge had finished an at-bat, since that could've very well been #61)
Carlos Rodon
8:02
Do you think the Cubs have interest or a chance to sign Rodon? I read his family still lives there and he has interest in coming back to Chicago
Mark P
8:03
That would be an interesting add for the Cubs, and a sign that they're really trying to contend in 2023.  I'm still wary about exactly how much the Cubs will spend this winter or how much of a push they're going to make to win next year.
Not to say that they won't, but I'll have to see it to believe it
Rick Hahn
8:04
Should I let an aging Abreu walk and move Vaughn to first?
Mark P
8:04
Abreu is such a White Sox staple that his future will be decided by ownership, and I would suspect he'll be re-signed.
8:05
Not that it'd be a bad move, since Abreu is still a very productive player even at age 35
Mlb
8:07
Who was the better baseball player Roberto Clemente or Albert Pujols?
Mark P
8:07
Who was the better player?

Clemente (52.5% | 451 votes)

Pujols (47.5% | 408 votes)

Total Votes: 859
No wrong answer when you're gauging two of the very best ever.

What are your thoughts on the Pirates picking up Miguel Andujar.
Mark P
8:09
Seems like a no-lose move for the Bucs to bring him in for a couple of weeks of evaluation in the majors, plus the offseason.  Andujar is a potential non-tender, though he won't cost much, and Pittsburgh is always open to lower-cost bargains.
Whether Andujar can be such a bargain remains to be seen, but it absolutely seemed like if he had a turn-around in him, it wasn't happening in New York

8:10
Who’s your pick for this year’s unlikely postseason hero?
Mark P
8:10
As a Jays fan, I'm obligated to say "wow, who saw Cavan Biggio win World Series MVP?"
Robbie Baseball
8:10
Verlander mentioned that the Blue Jays were a “close second” on signing him last time - any chance you see them winning out this winter?
Mark P
8:12
All things being equal, I think Verlander would return to Houston again.  But if the Jays upped their offer, and maybe had a nice postseason run under their belts....Verlander would very likely consider it.

The other factor is how much the Jays have to spend on payroll this winter.  Between arbitration raises and what would be a huge salary for Verlander, the Jays are suddenly in luxury tax territory
Brewers
8:13
Who's the the likelier extended Brewer: Brandon Woodruff or Corbin Burnes?
Mark P
8:15
My assumption is that the Brewers would prefer to keep Burnes because he's younger, and because his peak is higher than Woodruff's peak.  (Not that Woodruff isn't also an excellent pitcher.)

Now, "prefer to keep" is different than "likelier to extend," and in that case Burnes also has the higher price tag of the two.  My guess is that Milwaukee has talks with both pitchers, and will lean towards the one that is more open to re-signing at terms closer to what the Brewers are more comfortable spending.

Is Joey Meneses “for real”? I know he won’t keep up the numbers he has now, but do you think he’s a legitimate starting MLB player for 2023? Thanks.
Mark P
8:17
Meneses is a great story, and it's a testament to how well he's played that he basically *has* to be in Washington's plans for 2023.  If you're the Nats, why not continue to give him a shot as the starting first baseman?

8:18
Do go to a lot of MiLB games? If so, what’s your favorite team and team name? If not, do you watch Minor League Baseball?
Mark P
8:19
I haven't been to many minor league games in my life.  The Tigers used to have their Double-A affiliate in my hometown, but I only went to a handful of games in my childhood.  Beyond London, I've also attended games in Ottawa and Lansing, and had a great time in both spots.

Do you think Spencer Strider being put on the injured list is more of a way to get him rested for the post season vs an actual injury?
