What are sloppy steaks?
Mark P
7:32
It's when you take a steak and you pour water on it and it's really really good.

7:33
Seems like the Mets are in on everything. Signs of a very leaky front office, no? I know it's good for rumors, but I'd be embarrassed if I was in their FO.
Mark P
7:33
Could be the front office, but probably more likely that it's agents trying to drive up prices by noting that their clients are getting attention from the big-spending Mets

7:34
Should the dbacks trade an outfielder with the acquisition of Kyle Lewis?
Mark P
7:34
The Lewis trade made it even more likely that Arizona moves someone, yeah
Chris
7:34
Do you think the Padres sign Senga?
Mark P
7:35
It would seem like they've got a great shot.  Willingness to spend, and they meet Senga's desire to play for a contender.  Senga did want to play in a big market, ideally, but it's not like San Diego is small market with no profile or anything.  (Plus, it's pretty great place to live.)
The closer proximity to Japan might also help, if that's at all a factor for Senga

Jack flaherty… trade him or extend him?
Mark P
7:36
Given their past conflicts about pre-arb salaries, the arb hearings, and now Flaherty's drop in form, he doesn't seem like a long-term fit in St. Louis

7:37
Is the Judge sweepstakes what will hold up the SS market?  Seems like the main players for Judge (LAD, NYY, SF) may get involved in the SS market if they lose out on him.
Mark P
7:38
It'll be a factor, but there are also plenty of teams in the shortstop market (i.e. the Braves, Phillies) who won't be in on Judge
Arte Moreno
7:38
If I sell the Angels will they move on from Anaheim?
Mark P
7:40
If I recall correctly, the current lease runs through 2029, but one of the two sides (either the city or the team) has an option to extend for another decade.  So while I'm sure a new owner will start exploring a new ballpark, that option might be a good way to buy time.  Frankly, given the controversy around the last ballpark development plan, it's probably best to wait a while before bringing the idea up again

Who won the urshela trade?
Mark P
7:41
Urshela is a pretty solid player, so I like the move for Anaheim.  He can help out at multiple positions, and provide insurance if Rendon is hurt again

Would Danny Jansen for Pablo Lopez get a conversation started?
Mark P
7:43
It would, except then the Marlins just ask "hey, so what about Moreno or Kirk?"  That's the issue with catching depth....the Jays will always first be facing offers for the more sought-after backstops.

Not to say that Jansen doesn't have value in his own right, but a lot of teams would probably rank him third among the available options

How does Cleveland fill its catching vacancy?
Mark P
7:44
The more I think about it, Bo Naylor and a veteran complement (maybe even a re-signed Hedges) seems like their likeliest move.  The Guards do need another big bat, but they can add that hitter at first base/DH or maybe in the outfield

Does Ronald Acuña regain MVP form next season?
Mark P
7:46
With a normal offseason that isn't spent rehabbing, it's quite possible.
Steve
7:48
What’s the trade market like for the Orioles prospects? And who is a likely trade candidate outside of Pablo Lopez?
Mark P
7:49
If the Orioles were actually willing to move one of their top-tier prospects (i.e. Rodriguez, Holliday, Howser), that opens up their availability to land any number of very good trade targets.  However, I doubt the O's would move one of their prospects until they really know what they have in them....that is, unless, they've privately soured on a certain player and are now willing to sell high

7:50
What do you think of the Marlins and Diamondbacks making a trade, where Miami receives one of their young OF prospects, and the Diamondbacks receiving pitching? Do you think it could happen?/Do you think that they'd trade one of their OF prospects?
Mark P
7:50
Marlins were one of the first teams that came to mind when the rumblings started about Arizona's outfield surplus.  The fact that Miami needs a CF in particular makes them an even better fit

Why in the world did the Royals tender a contract to O 'Hearn when they have Vinny? The dude has hit for an OPS+ in the 70s since 2019.
Mark P
7:52
This move didn't make a ton of sense to me either.  O'Hearn has been struggling and seemed to become an afterthought last year.

I liked it, good movie.

I saw Longoria wants to go to Tampa, Arizona, or San Francisco? Are any of these likely? Which team would need him?
Mark P
7:54
Longoria did amend this statement the other day, saying that he's open to playing for any contender

Will we leave the winter meetings next month looking like a better team? Does Reynolds get moved in a blockbuster deal?
Mark P

  1. Maybe?
  2. Probably not

Do I make a statement in my first year as top Tiger and sign a long-term building block for the lineup?
