The Guardians generally don't make those kind of big trades, but if they did want to package multiple prospects for a player, they would do one at most.
7:19
And Burnes may already be out of the Guards' preferred price range

What are your thoughts on Judge? He single handedly carried the Yankees for about a month and is an icon across baseball. Yet, paying 8/320 as an example, for a 31 year old FA off of a career year does not sound like it will age well. Yet, ticket and Judge Yankee item sales add an interesting twist to the equation. My gut says some team will severely out pay the Yankees.
Mark P
7:21
There's definitely a risk in paying any free agent that kind of huge money, and Judge perhaps has a bit more risk than most given his age and his past injuries.  That said, your point about Judge to some extent "paying for himself" is valid, and if he helps his team win a championship, that would go a long way towards excusing any struggles on the back end of that contract

Why the rush on teo? I don't understand the speed with this trade was made for that return?
Mark P
7:24
Atkins made an interesting comment to the effect that opening up an OF spot can help in negotiations with other targets.  As in, a free agent outfielder concerned over playing time now suddenly no longer has such a worry in Toronto

Do you see the Pirates added a pitcher?
Mark P
7:26
Cherington indicated that the Bucs would be adding pitching, and perhaps even on a multi-year contract

Cards in on Trea Turner and then Murphy?
Mark P
7:27
Trading for Murphy seems like more of a Cardinals-esque move than going above and beyond to sign a top-tier free agent

Does Burnes or Woodruff get traded this offseason, or is it all smoke and wishful thinking from other teams?
Mark P
7:29
Seems like mostly wishful thinking.  The Hader trade re-opened the "omg, the Brewers are dealing everyone!" floodgates, but Milwaukee must certainly think they can reload and contend for 2023.

This isn't to say that Burnes and/or Woodruff won't eventually be traded.  In fact, I'd be shocked if both are long-term stays in Milwaukee.  But, it seems too early for the Brewers to move either right now

Are we slimming the budget or is the new front office tearing it down?
Mark P
7:29
It's not a teardown.  Arnold hasn't done anything that wasn't already rumored to happen, since there was speculation that Renfroe was a trade candidate.  If the Brewers really were entering a teardown, they wouldn't have picked up Wong's option.

What is more likely to happen: Orioles lock up Rutschman long-term or splash free agent signing this offseason (Correa)? Both?
Mark P
7:32
I'd guess the Orioles will spend some money on new talent this winter, but not to the level of a Correa-level signing.  I guess it depends on what you mean by a "splash signing" (would someone like Jameson Taillon count?), but in general, I'd say a Rutschman extension would seem a lot likelier than a big $150MM signing or something

7:33
Do I make any big signings for MN? And if so who are my big targets?
Mark P
7:34
Based on recent reports, it seems like the Twins are making a legit push to try and retain Correa.  And, if not Correa, Bogaerts is their plan B.  No guarantee that another team won't outbid Minnesota for other player, but it looks on paper like the Twins are prepared to make some level of splashy signing

Realized with my Swanson comment I messed up the years money. Would he take 6 years at 22 per season?
Mark P
7:37
We had him projected at seven years and $154MM, so the same average annual value except one less year.  Maybe some kind of vesting option might be a compromise for a team unwilling to go to seven years, but it feels like Swanson will get at least six
Remember, he doesn't turn 29 until February

Do you think the Rays move Glasnow this offseason?  I can't imagine they pay him 25m next season but I also can't imagine they gave him that 2 year deal with the thought of not taking advantage of this season's salary either.  Risky though, if he has a Rodon type season then he is at or possibly slightly below market value next season.  If he is injury riddle again, that 25m for the Rays in particular is really rough.  Interesting dilemma for them.
Mark P
7:39
The extension surprised me a lot, since I'd always just assumed Glasnow would be dealt.  Weirdly, the higher salary now creates more question in my mind, since you're right....you'd think the Rays might want some return on their big commitment

Twins have a lot of left handed outfielders Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff, Wallner. Any of them going to be traded? Part of a package for an “ace”?
Mark P
7:41
Feels like the Twins will move at least one of them to clear the logjam a bit, except it would take significantly more to land a true top-tier starter

7:42
Is there an ace out there the Orioles can trade for without giving up one of Rodriguez, Holliday, Cowser, or Henderson?
Mark P
7:43
The O's have so much prospect depth that they have plenty to offer a team, even beyond the top four guys in their farm system.  Plus, don't forget the payroll space....Baltimore could "spend" in the sense of taking on a bad contract, to help facilitate a trade for a lesser prospect return

Why is there no talk of Bassit returning to the Mets as the #3 starter.  He had a strong season last year
Mark P
7:47
I don't think there's been anything to rule out Bassitt returning.  However, it could be that the Mets are first exploring the bigger-tier players (i.e. deGrom, Nimmo, others not from their roster) before getting around to Bassitt.

It could be that a lot of the league might feel the same way, perhaps viewing Bassitt as a backup plan if they can't land another starter.  Remember, Bassitt turned down a qualifying offer, so he also has draft compensation attached.  Teams generally weigh the QO a bit more carefully for free agents who aren't clear superstars.

Ian Happ for Oscar Colas? Who says no
Mark P

The White Sox, since Happ is only under control through 2023

Is the general perception that the Mets are very active this offseason or that they are in a turkey coma?
Mark P
7:49
They already made one major move in re-signing Diaz, plus added more pitching depth in the Marlins trade.  The Mets have been busier than most teams already.

Nimmo was projected at five years, 106M. Do you feel that, given all the interest, that he might go beyond a 21MM AAV? And perhaps 6 years?
Mark P
7:50
I could see it happening.  It would be a battle of Nimmo's injury history vs. a hot market for his services, and it only takes one team to take the plunge on a sixth year

Do you think Cleveland would look to upgrade on Plesac and/or Civale? Or is it more likely they concentrate their resources on offense and stand pat on the pitching with the view to internal upgrades mid-season?

As a Jays fan I’m pretty concerned over the 4-5 spot in the starting rotation. Kikuchi was a big disappointment last year and White wasn’t any better. Do you see Stripling resigning and hopefully Kikuchi recovers from last season’s disappointment?
