Mickey Mantle

Is Jasson the real deal? Can we expect him at some point this season?
Mark P
7:48
Dominguez doesn't even turn 20 until next week, and he has barely played any Double-A ball.  If he truly breaks out in a big way, there's a small chance at a late-season call, but my guess is that New York holds him off until 2024

With Moreno changing his mind on sale of Angels. does that hurt Angel chances of signing Ohtani?
Mark P
7:50
If Ohtani isn't satisfied with the direction of the organization, then Moreno retaining ownership isn't a great sign, unless the Angels start winning in 2023.

Where will Wacha end up?
Mark P
7:51
The White Sox stand out as a team with a sudden rotation need, but that situation won't be settled until the Clevinger investigation is complete.
Rangers
7:52
Are we a play off contender
Mark P
7:52
I think so.  The rotation is obviously markedly better, and while bad luck wasn't the reason Texas was a bad team in 2022, they did have a rather stunning 15-35 record in one-run games.

Sign Chafin for 2 years/$18M, Matt Moore for 2/14, or Will Smith for 1/8?
Mark P
7:53
I'd go with Chafin. Surprised that he's still on the market, frankly.

Do the Nats get sold this year?
Mark P
7:55
As of two weeks ago, not a lot of progress had been made.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/nationals-sales-process-still-n...

With 11 months remaining in 2023, there's still a ton of opportunity for a sale to be worked out within your timeframe, even if the TV rights are a major hurdle.

The Brewers are towing the budget line harder than ever in this recent contention window. Is that rotation a big seller at the deadline if they're out of the race? Or do we see them keep trying to make do with what they have?
Mark P
7:57
If Milwaukee fell out of contention, my guess is that one of Woodruff/Burnes/Adames would be traded at the deadline.  Maybe not a hard reset for the Crew depending on just how far out of contention they are, but I think they'd make the move on one of their 2024-25 free agents.
Donaldson
7:57
Will I still be with the Yankees when the season starts? I’m not feeling the love
Mark P
7:59
There seem to be enough bad vibes around Donaldson in New York that the Yankees might just end up eating most of his contract in a salary dump, or maybe even an outright release.  Reports on LeMahieu's health seem good, so once the Yankees get a look at him through a few weeks of spring camp, Donaldson might be the odd man out

Will Andruw Jones be a Hall of Famer?
Mark P
8:00
Yes.  Jones is steadily gaining ballot support, and is up to over 58% in his sixth year.  With four more years of eligibility, he'll get over the 75 percent line eventually, maybe even as early as next winter
Geoff
8:00
Beltre is a lock to get in next year. Do you see anyone else joining him?
Mark P
8:02
Helton and Wagner will get in as well, Andruw Jones has a good shot.  If some voters were giving Carlos Beltran a one-year "penalty" for the Astros scandal, Beltran might get enough of a support bump to make it next year too

peanuts or cracker jacks?
Mark P
8:04
Not a big fan of either, but of the two, peanuts
Senga
8:05
If he opts out after three years, do the Mets still have control thru arbitration?
Mark P
8:05
Nope, he's a full free agent
Thompson

DeGrom, Eovaldi, Perez, Gray, Heaney, Odorizzi, Otto and Dunning as rotation options. No significant additions to the bullpen. What are your thoughts on the Rangers using some of the young guys like White, Winn, Leiter and Rocker out of the pen this year? Also, what realistic options are still there for a left field upgrade?
Mark P
8:08
Texas isn't going to rush any of the young prospects, since the rotation signings also have the side effect of creating less of an immediate need for help from the farm.  There might be a better chance that the Rangers trade for relief help at the deadline.
Youth stumbles
8:09
Say Cleveland’s youth movement regresses this season. Do they trade Bieber at the deadline for a big haul of prospects, or wait until the off-season. If the cardinals are in contention would they give up walker and other prospects for 1.5 years of Bieber?
Mark P
8:10
If the Guardians did fall out of the race, there is indeed a good chance Bieber is dealt at the deadline rather than in the offseason.  Waiting until the winter would increase the number of suitors, true, but if Bieber is pitching well and healthy, the Guards will still get plenty of interest in July.
The Cards would make sense as a possible suitor, but Walker seems pretty close to untouchable.  If anything, Walker might be getting regular playing time in the lineup by July.

Am I making a good decision being done for the off-season?
Mark P
8:12
Dipoto didn't firmly state the Mariners are "done," just that they're not likely to make any more big moves.  You can never rule out Dipoto from still being active if another opportunity emerges

The New Rules in MLB.  Is  used for the Baseball Clássic 2023?
Mark P
8:12
They're not, which makes for a bit of an awkward adjustment (or re-adjustment) for players in the WBC playing in between Spring Training stints
Julio Rodriguez
8:13
How many years until I’m an MVP candidate?
Mark P
8:13
....one?  J-Rod was already seventh in MVP voting last year.
Tyler Stephenson
8:16
What do you make of the Reds' plan to only catch me twice a week? Am I Joey's replacement?
Mark P
8:17
The Reds' top priority is keeping Stephenson healthy, so if that means making him a part-time catcher, that's what they'll do.  Plans could change later in the season depending on Stephenson's status, Votto's status, or what's happening with the other catchers.

Should I be worried the Jays only have 1 Top-100 prospect?  I thought one of the concerns with AA was prospect depth but seems like Shapiro/Atkins have the cupboard more bare.
Mark P
8:18
The Jays have already promoted or traded a lot of the names from the first wave or two of prospects during the Shapiro/Atkins regime.  That said, admittedly it would help the Jays a lot to have a more consistent pipeline of talent

I have a problem with the HOF voting. You are not good enough one year but In a couple of years you are suddenly good enough. Why ?
