I think that if you don't have a clear option, but have several good arms that can throw multiple innings, you mix and match in some kind of modified pen game.

Huge advantage to avoid pushing guys a third time through the order, switch arm side (righty/lefty), and utilize a pinch hitter.

The Cubs, and that has changed in that it has become more likely with several other teams losing key contributors.

Take the Nats, who won't have Ramos, may not have Strasburg, etc. We might pick the Cubs to beat them anyway, were they to match up in the NLCS, but the odds are only shifting in Chicago's favor.

Thank you for joining! That sounds like an entirely plausible scenario to me. Grab a little upside and youth in the hitters, none of whom figure to be all that expensive.
I do think that a truly successful offseason, though, will involve at least exploring larger-scale moves that involve utilizing some of the Phils' massive payroll space to take some risks without clogging up the budget in future years.

I think Wieters has a chance either to go quick or to sit on the market for a long time. If some team/s think he is a great buy-low-ish investment opportunity, he could be pursued hard right off the bat.

I know the Twins need pitching, so who are some names that get thrown around in trade talks for me? Julio Teheran? Jacob deGrom?

Neither of those names sounds terribly plausible to me, honestly. Certainly not deGrom, who is injured anyway.

My own guess is that the Twins will be looking more for upper-level prospect types than established, controllable major leaguers. I'm not sure Dozier would bring back that kind of pitcher anyway -- he only has two years of control remaining.

Has Mike Foltynewicz solidified himself as a starting pitcher going forward? Seems to be one of the only young Braves' pitchers to take a step forward this year.

He has solidified a full-blown chance to stick or fail as a starter. But it's probably still too soon to tell which way he'll go.

I would see that as barely plausible, b/c the Rays (and other teams with similar assets) are going to want Dansby Swanson to be the centerpiece in that kind of trade. True #1 starters (well, at least when they are on) playing on incredibly favorable contract terms are not going to be had for a regular old smattering of prospects.

I think it's a huge blow. Lobaton/Severino isn't the worst imaginable combo, but you're basically going with a well-below-average unit instead of one that would've been an area of distinct advantage. Not disqualifying by any means, though.

Not sure, but I think that is the priority for the winter. Could be in on Wieters. Maybe even explore a McCann trade? I feel like that's the one glaring need for the Nats. Back-end bullpen help, probably, too.

MLB had guys like Rickey Henderson and Vince Coleman swiping 100 bases in a single season. Are these days over? Also, why do you think players no longer steal at this rate?

If Billy Hamilton can up his OBP yet further and Trea Turner has a full season, we might yet see someone in that territory. Generally, though, I think the cost/benefit has changed some so it's obviously a less-frequently-used part of the game.
