Depends if you believe in Ketel. Shortstop is the biggest hole at present.
Certainly could improve at first & corner OF, add a starter.

Do the Phils trade Rupp? If so, for what?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
I don't think so. I get the idea, but he's still an OBP risk and so I don't know that the return would warrant sacrificing the upside. Even if the young guys work out, it isn't as if Rupp is suddenly useless. He helps keep the standard up now and provides another good option moving forward.

What kind of return can the Reds get for Cozart?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
The second half has not helped, that's for sure. Performance fall-off and now the injury. I'm guessing they wish they finished up that trade with the Mariners -- though I'm not sure what that would've returned.
2:54
He is a legitimately outstanding defender, which is important to bear in mind. But it's just one year of control. At this point I'm not sure they're going to get any kind of elite prospect. Best case maybe something like what the Twins got for Nunez (Adalberto Mejia)?
I'll probably end up looking dumb for giving that much detail in the answer.

Quintana for Allard, Newcomb, and Austin Riley. Who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
I don't see CWS dealing Sale/Quintana for pure prospect assets. I think they will want a young major leaguer as well as prospects.
2:56
I mean, if you're talking about an elite, near-MLB prospect, sure. But those are all high-upside types.
Not saying it isn't something close to fair value, btw, but teams have to consider more than that in deciding whether to pull the trigger.

Ian Desmond top 17 mil a year? CF or SS?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
I think he'll sign as an outfielder, though teams won't hate the idea that he could play in the IF as well. I think that is on the high side, arguably outside of what he could get unless maybe it's a three-year deal. Remember, he'll get hung with a qualifying offer. I'm thinking something like Zobrist's contract.

Are we in the beginning of a major renaissance at SS that makes A-Rod, Nomar and Jeter's look like a blip?

Correa, Seager, Dansby, Turner, Russell, Lindor and Boegarts. All these guys have shown flashes or strong early success with the glove, bat or both.
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I mean, yeah, it's pretty remarkable. Add Bregman in there, too, and there are others who could soon join that group (Crawford, Arcia).

Vin Scully for the hall of fame guy?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Only question is whether they name the building after him.
Michael

My bad about the Fernandez question, didn't mean any disrespect toward him or the Marlins
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
I didn't take it that way.

Is it 2018 yet i have 45 mil coming the book should i go buy an ace in a strong free agent class
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Way too soon even to guess, really, but that seems pretty unlikely.

Why do owners feel they need to dump talent/salary to rebuild?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
You don't HAVE to, but it makes the transition quicker. For one, you can reinvest cash elsewhere. For another, the worse you are, the more power you have in the draft/international market to add new young talent.
3:03
Couple more and i'm going to wrap it up ...
Grayson
3:03
In the next CBA, do you think they will address the teams that hold down their prospects to lesson their service time?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
I still have no idea how to actually do this. You can change the service line, but it just creates a new point for manipulation. Really I've yet to hear any explanation for a change to the system that would make it different. Running control from the point of acquisition (draft/international), regardless of MLB service, would certainly change the calculus but that is probably too radical.

Does Chicago make a QO to Fowler? If he somehow accepts it, who gets traded to make room in the OF?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
He's an easy yes for me on the QO, and I don't see how he takes it unless he just really wants to stay there. He has had a great season.

Any chance the Sox trade Kimbrel and try to sign Jansen for the closer role?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Doesn't sound plausible.
But who knows?!
Coppy
3:07
What 3B should I trade for? Longoria? Frazier?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Why would Frazier even be a consideration? 2017 is his final year of control. Longo, sure, but no indication he's going to be dangled and there'd be a ton of competition. I don't see ATL winning a bidding war there, especially given his age/cost.

Do the Orioles unload Davis this Offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Don't see a plausible way for them to do that.
Tom
3:09
Does Gio (Nats) have to help in playoffs to be considered for the optional 2017 year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
I think they pick it up regardless. He logs innings and has plenty of upside still.

Your pick is the Cubs, understandably, but what if the choice was between the Cubs and the field? Thanks Jeff.
Jeffrey Todd

The field.
