Jeffrey Todd

Gather round and let us chat about the Old Ball Game.
Greg holland
2:10
Will I be a national soon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
Looking more and more likely by the day. Far from certain, of course, but on paper it's a good match. Boras connection doesn't hurt.
Eric
2:11
How surprised were you by the return for Straily?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
I was pretty danged surprised, honestly. I mean, his cheap control is nice and all, but there are any number of guys kicking around in free agency who could probably be had for the promise of a rotation spot and a few million bucks who'd be as good or better.
2:13
If Miami really thinks he has turned a corner or found something, then that would help explain it. But otherwise, it's hard to ignore the middling peripherals and the fact that he was changing hands for peanuts this time last year.
Michael
2:13
Napoli going to land in Texas?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
It's still a good fit. There's obviously some matchmaking intrigue still going on with some of these guys, probably including Trumbo and Moss and a few other teams.
Andrew
2:14
Do we have the technology yet to create a time machine and go to Opening Day?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
And miss out on finding out who's in the best shape of their lives this spring?!
Bret
2:15
Does Angel Pagan sign for a Colby Rasmus-esque $5M, a Michael Saunders-esque $9M, or less than both? Does he get two years?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
I'll guess slightly under Rasmus on a one-year deal, at this point.

2:15
Does the Jays decision to keep Bautista in the OF slate Smoak for a near-fulltime role at 1B? Or are we more likely to see Pearce at 1B and Smoak off the bench?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Think there'll be some rotating going on. Hard to see Bautista playing 150 games in right. And you'd like to limit Smoak to facing righties.
Chris
2:16
Will Lucas Giolito be in the rotation for the White Sox out of spring training or will he be a September call up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
I'd expect they'll let him master Triple-A and iron out whatever funkiness he got into last year. Waiting will also allow them to avoid pushing him past a full year of service in 2017.
P.O.
2:17
What do you think of the Royals signing of Duffy to a 5 year extension at what I consider a steal for 65. And do you see them making anymore FA moves
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Great value for KC. Really not sure there's room to spend, from all indications.
Meech
2:18
The Marlins already weak farm system took a big hit with that trade, was it worth it?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Probably not. ERA estimators valued Straily as an upper-4/low-5 ERA guy last year.
Tanner Quirk
2:19
I still have that funny feeling that the Braves are gonna make a trade for Chris Archer before ST starts...thoughts??
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
I'm not sold on that. I think that if TB felt there was a deal worth making for Archer, they'd have pushed for that before pulling the trigger on Smyly.
2:20
Also, I don't know that there's a great match there unless ATL is really willing to be aggressive. I don't think the Rays want lower-level prospects or even boom/bust higher level guys.
Tommy Lasorda
2:20
When will the Dodgers do something about 2B?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
No particular rush. It's still a buyer's market.
Dodgers
2:21
Why won't the twins accept my Offer of DeLeon for Doizer? 😫
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
I'd bet they would have if they really, really liked DeLeon ... or if they didn't think the Dodgers will circle back in a few weeks with a better offer.
Dutch
2:21
What do you think of the value on the Calhoun extension?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
It's a great deal for the Angels, and not just in the way that most early extensions are. He was a mid-arb guy who already had locked up $10MM in earnings. Getting that FA option in exchange for guaranteeing his next two seasons is a great move.
Patrick in NZ
2:22
MLB is doing a good job of promoting baseball here in NZ. Didi Gregorious and AJ Preller were here last week. Didi provided hitting/fielding tips. AJ was kind enough to talk Rangers and Padres baseball with me for 30 min.
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
That's awesome! Just don't let a newfound passion for baseball dull your love for rugby.
Jason
2:22
Do you expect Brewers to trade Braun at some point?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
That has become less likely in my mind, but I still wouldn't count out teams like the Dodgers or even the Giants. I'd expect the Brewers will be patient if needed, though.
BrewCrewFan
2:24
Thoughts on the Feliz signing? Do you think the Brewers could make a run at another possible buy low RP in this stalled market to try & flip at the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Good price, obviously. You wonder if there's something we don't really know about his health or something. No reason they can't grab another reliever.
Dan duquette
2:25
Should I sign Travis Wood?
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
Seems like a solid fit, if he's willing to accept a job that doesn't promise him a chance at the rotation. Baltimore pretty well signaled they feel set with their 5 when they traded Gallardo.
Joe M
2:25
Do you think LA rotation is set with Kershaw, Hill, Maeda and Urias, or will they look for an upgrade via trade?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Those four and like 7 others. Don't really see a move happening there.
Bill
2:26
Do you think the royals should extend Herrera past his arbitration years? I'm guessing his cost is going to skyrocket now that he will be the closer.
