What would the Diaz fetch the Rays?
Mark P
9:50
Yandy is under contract through the 2025 season, owed $10MM next year and then there's a $12MM club option for 2026.

I list the financial terms first because, frankly, that's a key point when discussing any Rays trade.  The salary isn't huge enough that Tampa "needs" to move Diaz even with their payroll limitations, but if the Rays decide to retool things, moving Diaz would bring back a lot in return.  Even though he's having an underwhelming season, Diaz has the kind of skillset that front offices crave, so he'd draw a lot of interest

The Pirates losing Bednar makes them sellers not buyers now? What say you?
Mark P
9:52
I tend to agree, even if I don't think the Bucs will go big on either buying or selling no matter which way they turn.  (Or, they would easily do both, since this team wants to win in 2025.)

Even with Bednar, the Pirates' biggest problem was their lack of offense.

Yandy for Bryce Miller?
Mark P
9:54
That would be interesting, given that the Mariners and Rays frequently link up on deals.

I don't see that being one-for-one, however.

What is your favorite minor league ballpark?
Mark P
9:55
I haven't been to that many minor league parks, actually.  My pick is Lansing's ballpark, home of the Lansing Lugnuts (the Athletics' A-ball affiliate).
9:56
Also, shoutout to Labatt Park in my hometown of London, Ontario --- former home of the Tigers' Double-A affiliate

Could Bret Baty be a met trade chip. Might be a change of scenery guy. Maybe to sox for Kopech?
Mark P
9:58
Don't think I see that particular trade fit, but sure, Baty could absolutely be a player the Mets are more prone to trade than keep at this point.

I could be biased because Mark Vientos just hit a monster of a home run, and looks more polished at the plate than Baty has at the big league level.

If Estevez continues to pitch well— 8 perfect innings in his last 8 appearances— what might the angels be able to get for him at the deadline?
Mark P
10:04
Estevez is a free agent this winter, and looks like an obvious trade candidate.  He's got $3.51MM owed to him now and it'll be even less by deadline time, so he can financially fit for basically any team in the sport.

Between the money, Estevez's talent, and how almost every contender needs relief help, the Angels should get a healthy amount of bids on his services.  That might combine for a slightly higher return than usual, but it wouldn't be a premium package for a good (but not great) rental closer

Edwin Diaz just got caught with sticky stuff.

Ooof, well, so much for the Mets' recent momentum.

Cronenworth to the Yanks. What comes back?  Cease and Suarez to the O’s. Same question.
Profar and Arraez to the M’s. What’s the return?
Mark P
10:08
The Padres are in a playoff position, and are absolutely in win-now.  It would have to be a big collapse for them to consider these kinds of sells.

Do you think Tork has played his last for the Tigers?

Pirates willing to trade Baily Falter for a bat? Five years of club control on Falter is intriguing to teams in need of starting pitching?
Mark P
10:10
By that same logic, Falter is just as valuable to the Pirates themselves.  Getting Falter is looking like a great move, and it further bolsters the future rotation along with Skenes, Jones, Keller

You ever see Nordiques great Dale Hunter around London? Tell him I say "hello."
Mark P
10:13
Not to play into Canadian stereotypes that it's all a bunch of small towns and we've all met local hockey players....but yes, I actually run into Hunter before, lol

The Hunter brothers are legends in London for buying the local junior hockey team and turning the Knights into a powerhouse

tell me the rumor of the stros trading tucker, especially to my braves is bogus ?
Mark P
10:15
As noted earlier, the Astros seem to have gotten back on track.  So I find it extremely unlikely they're moving Tucker to Atlanta or anywhere

Would you rank Willie Mays as the GOAT?
Mark P
10:18
It's either Mays or Ruth in my view, with Aaron and Bonds also right up there.  Mays was a legend of legends, and one of the greatest athletes in history.  RIP
It's time to wrap the chat, and we'll be back for more questions next weekend.  Thanks to everyone for participating!
