But this year's is $237MM, so that's the number the Jays and other teams are concerned with for 2024
Judge

Think he’s a hall of famer?
Mark P
7:26
Absolutely.  This is only his ninth season, but he's definitely on the path to Cooperstown

This may have been asked before, but in the wake of all the trades, who arranges for Player A's transportation to his new team - trading team or receiving team?
Mark P
7:28
I believe in the event of a trade, a player's agent or the player himself contacted by his new team's front office in order to set up all the basics.

Amusingly, I think this is was actually what George Costanza's job with the Yankees (assistant to the traveling secretary) was supposed to be

With his recent success since returning from injury how close has Edward Cabrera gotten to his preseason trade market evaluation? Can the marlins afford to move him now considering injuries this off season?
Mark P
7:30
The Marlins are open on basically anyone, but they'd probably want to see Cabrera rebuild his trade value to a slightly greater extent.  If he does well over the rest of 2024 and stays healthy, that alone might be enough to convince a suitor to offer enough to satisfy Miami

What system do you prefer, the quick rising and trade bait padres or the slow progression of the Dodgers?
Mark P
7:32
Given the two teams' records over the last decade, the Dodgers

Did we fix Eloy?
Mark P
7:33
We shouldn't overlook the emotional lift that a player can get from moving from a terrible team to a World Series contender

The Mariners "won" the trade deadline right? Arozarena, Turner, Yimi. We still have our stud SPs and Julio coming back. Maybe JP Crawford can be better when he returns. What team looks better than us right now?
Mark P
7:36
The M's face a tall order in fighting off the Astros, but Houston has its own share of problems.  Jerry Dipoto was predictably pretty aggressive at the deadline to build the lineup, and the bats just have to be good (not great) for Seattle to win with that rotation

So what is on the Sunday Night Chat Playlist?
Walk out song
7:36
what would your walk out song be if you were a closer or a batter.? Do you have a favorite walk out song from a current mlb player?
Mark P
7:36
The answer to both happens to be the same.....Ghostbusters
7:37
Actually, wait up.  The next track on the shuffle was David Bowie's "Golden Years," which might be an even better choice

Does Soto top Ohtanis contract this offseason? In net present value.
Mark P
7:39
$437,830,563 was the present value of Ohtani's deal, factoring in the deferred money.  And I think Soto comfortably passes that total

Their would  of have been more Trades on Deadline day if we had some in the Morning or was at midnight.
Mark P
7:41
A midnight deadline would lead to a lot of players being awkwardly pulled off the field mid-game.  And a morning deadline would be tougher for us here at MLBTR, since it would mean a staff-wide all-nighter the evening prior.  We aren't made of stone!

7:42
Will the mariners have money to spend next year? Soto -rodriquez would be epic
Mark P
7:43
They'll probably have some money to spend now that their broadcast situation is a little more settled, but very likely not the funds available to manage a Soto megadeal
John
7:43
Is there a chance the Orioles resign Corbin Burnes? Don’t know what this team looks like without him
Mark P
7:44
The Orioles' deadline moves indicate that the new ownership group is willing to spend.  Whether that translates to the payroll boost needed to re-sign Burnes is a big question, but at least it's a possibility at this point.

7:46
Should I be worried?
Mark P
7:47
The time to worry is when any of the other NL Central teams starts making a move, since the division as a whole is kind of treading water right now.  The Crew have build up a good cushion for now, so no reason to hit the panic button

7:50
Will we see Jasson soon or will the Yanks play for the draft pick in 25?
Mark P
7:51
My hot take is that the tied-for-first place Yankees are trying to contend, not aim for a lottery win

Dominguez will be in the majors probably within 2-3 weeks.  Maybe that timeline is altered if Verdugo gets back on track, but the Yankees clearly want to see what they have in the Martian.  If the hype over Dominguez wasn't high enough already, now New York fans are seeing him as this year's version of Evan Carter
Jed Hoyer
7:53
Is my job safe?
Mark P
7:54
Hoyer's deal is up after the 2025 season, so the pressure is clearly on for him to get the Cubs back into contention.  It wouldn't really shock me if ownership made a change soon, as if there's someone available that the Cubs just prefer better, well, David Ross knows how that goes
Clark and Addison
7:56
Can the Cubs win with a rotation of Steele, Imansga, Tallion, Assad and Wicks? Or do they need to add a front-line guy?
Mark P
7:57
Steele and Imanaga look like "front-line guys," Taillon has pitched a lot better this year, and Assad/Wicks have both looked good.  A lot of teams would happily take Chicago's rotation, though you're right that an ace on top of everyone else makes that staff even stronger
And not just stronger but deeper, in the event of inevitable injuries

I am 80 years old and in the DFW area all my life and including all the pro teams never been more disappointed with any team as I am of the 2024 rangers. They should be playing for a lottery spot instead of the playoffs
Mark P
7:59
While this certainly hasn't been what the Rangers and their fans expected....a World Series hangover season is more disappointing than, say, any Dallas Cowboys season in the last 25 years?
I'm a Packers fan, had to twist the knife a little bit. :)

Do you like 28 or 29 man roster or 40 man roster in September?
Mark P
8:00
28-29 man rosters.  Ballooning rosters up to 40 players never made much sense to me

Perfect. We've been sitting here chatting all day and you never bothered to learn my name. You're so buried with your phone. Instead of giving me a real smile...you send an emoji.
