Way too far out to know, except that it's pretty danged unlikely. Those will likely be two massive contracts. Sorry, Yankees dreamers.

Is a Neil Walker 3/40 extension an overpay?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
I believe that's exactly what Martin Prado got (off the top of my head). Should have mentioned that comp in the post. It sounds like a bit more than should be required, but it's a pretty fair value.
2:33
Prado, of course, signed at the end of the year; Walker (who's probably the better player) would be signing in advance of the season. Murphy got 3/37.5, though he also had a QO attached.
So I'm talking myself into that price tag as being pretty bang on.

Do you think the inflation of contracts every year will ever trickle down to the point where it gets too expensive for fans to attend games or anything like that? I know it's people like Boras's jobs to squeeze out every dime possible but I'm worried it will wind up ruining baseball.

I think salaries reflect what teams are able to get people to pay, not the other way around.

Why don't you answer any questions about the Orix Buffaloes? I'm really tired of this bias.

If the O's are out of it come July what could they get in return for Britton and Machado
Jeffrey Todd

You know the answer to this: lots and lots.

Who will I sign him? Is Hwang a good player? Describe him for me
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Not sure what you're asking w the first part, but as for Hwang, he's pretty interesting IMO. He jumped forward in power, but suddenly showed a lot of swing and miss too. Then last year, after failing to draw interest, he put it all together. If he can sustain that general approach, who knows?

Jeff, where's your pic??

I will join the party at some point here. (For those confused: my colleague Jason Martinez busted out a sweet glamour shot for our twitter image.)
Just need to find a local photog to make me look dreamy.

What is a realistic return for J Villar in a trade? Or should I keep him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
At this point, barring a major injury, he's probably staying for now. There just wasn't enough demand in the middle infield and he's controllable/cheap enough that MIL had no reason to go looking to get whatever they could for him. Still, he needs to show he's set a new performance baseline for teams to really pay up for him.

You mentioned Severino as a solid, upper-level prospect which seems to jive with what I saw elsewhere. Why is it, then, that MLB pipeline doesn't even list him as one of the top ten catching prospects in the game? What makes such varied opinions on a guy like him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
BA does, FWIW. His issue is the bat just hasn't yet shown through in the minors. So if you don't think he's going to grow as a hitter, he's just a backup.

How many pro innings will Joe Nathan pitch this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
He seems like a classic Mike Rizzo guy. Would not be the first of his ilk to end up playing a pretty significant role in the Nats pen.
2:43
I'll set the over/under at 25.
Might be high, I don't know. Just the feel I get.

Are you buying King Felix working out hard on his lower body might help him gain a tic on the gun?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Sounds reasonably plausible, though how many pitchers gain velo at that stage of their careers? If he was really neglecting it before, perhaps a tick.

Hello from Guatemala! What do you think Cuthbert could bring back to the Royals in a trade?? Thanks
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Bienvenidos! Don't see much trade value there. See him as an organizational depth guy who'll probably be up and down some in 2017.

Do you think Jered Weaver will sign with a team this spring and who maybe?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
If reports are true that the Padres offered him more than they did the three guys that signed at 1.75 mil or whatever, then there's surely interest. Guess it's still unclear if he's committed to pitching, though. I don't have a firm sense of it, honestly.

Lucroy extension - 5/95MM - does that seem fair?

Yeah it does.

If I have a healthy and productive first half will I still be in Oakland come August 1st?
Jeffrey Todd

I'll guess no. Could move this spring, even.

Do you think Profar could earn an everyday role this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
Not barring injury or a total collapse from another player.
Or a trade to a team that has an opening, I guess.
