Favorite player growing up?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Rafael Palmeiro comes to mind.
Loved that sweet swing at Camden Yards.

What would a deal for Quintana look like? Mazara + Odor + Gallo?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
That's way too much.

What is happening with Prince Fielder? I see he has been put on the 60 day DL.. is he done or maybe coming back?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Believe I read he is getting into cooking. Seriously. He's done as a ballplayer, unfortunately.

Bregman is no longer a rookie so ROY is mine bro.
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Okay, I'll take him then. Either way, it was a cop out.

how do you feel about the phillies rotation? will nola and velasquez bounce back and show their upside?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Might have the highest variance of any in the game. If those two and Buchholz are all humming, could be a nice unit.

2 parter. Why is it that only lefty hitters are referred to as having a "sweet" swing and why do tough LHPs make some lefty hitters look bad more than than tough RHPs make some righty hitters look?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Dunno but it does seem that way.

Is Scott Boras bad for baseball?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
No, he's just playing a role he carved out in a market setting. There's lots of money in the game, and players have every right to try to get their cut. Labor peace is still going and there's plenty of competition, so I think it's in pretty good shape even with Boras around.

what dont you like about the desmond signing?, guy will rake at coors field
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
No reason to think Coors will help him more than any other player. He's a solid but streaky hitter, a nice player and a great clubhouse guy. Just seemed like a very big contract for that org, and it got really confusing when they decided to use him at first rather than trading a lefty OFer for a SP.
Padres Fan
3:17
Best case scenario for Padres this year? Are you intrigued by any of the young bucks who will get a chance to shine this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Best case is that Myers takes another step forward, several young guys firmly establish themselves, farm keeps growing, and the makeshift pitching staff doesn't break down completely. Hard to imagine a real playoff push regardless.
Couple more and I gotta run

With Wright's back issues, is Todd Frazier an option?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Again, not sure they have the spending capacity. And I think they have the depth to cover for it. My guess is they basically are assuming anything they get from Wright is a plus. He hasn't even started throwing a baseball yet.

Do teams look at $$ / WAR? Is it a valid measurement for determining value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Not specifically, I don't think. They all have different payroll and depth situations. Plus, $/WAR doesn't account completely for future control in non-guaranteed contracts (ie pre-arb and arb-eligible players). I guess I prefer to look at it from a broader perspective. But that's not to say that you shouldn't analyze how much a player costs in comparison to their WAR (or your team's own version of capturing overall value). And it has increased function when it comes to looking at FAs.
