Puerto Rico Rays
8:58
could the Rays play at Hiram Bithorn Stadium?  It has more capacity than any of the minor league parks being suggested and has hosted MLB games before and the WBC.
Mark P
8:59
Still too early to make projections when the inspection work hasn't yet been done on the Trop.  In general, I'd say San Juan is a less likely candidate just because of the logistical difficulties of moving the organization outside the continental US

Why do so many reliable veterans near the end of their careers bounce around from team to team instead of staying in one place?
Mark P
9:01
Teams don't want to be one year too late on a veteran player. If he joins your team and over-produces on a one-year deal, that's great, but clubs are usually then pretty willing to move on rather than risk the aging curve
Guardians of the Galaxy
9:02
The Guardians need starting pitching. Do they re-sign Bieber and Boyd? Can they do both on their pedestrian budget?
Mark P
9:03
I don't either will be overly expensive, but it's probably true that re-signing both is beyond Cleveland's price range
Jocko Johansson
9:04
Maybe a dumb question, but could Rays play without a roof for a few years? I understand there'd be delays etc., but...
Mark P
9:04
Nope.  Apparently there's no drainage in the building, and the infrastructure wasn't designed to be exposed to the elements
Victor Robles
9:05
Was this year just a flash in the pan or do you expect real production from me next season?
Mark P
9:06
The Mariners' extension didn't exactly break the bank or anything, but it did seem like a pretty bold endorsement of a guy with a .370 BABIP.

Should the Phillies move Schwarber out of the leadoff spot in 2025?
Mark P
9:09
I'd keep Schwarber where he is, since it's not like there's an obvious candidate to replace him
9:10
If it ain't broke...
Tell Me I’m Wrong

The Mark Shapiro era has been worse for the Jays than J.P. Ricciardi was.
Mark P
9:10
Four playoff appearances > zero playoff appearances.  So, I'm afraid you're incorrect

Mark P long time reader first time writer. Do you expect mlb teams payroll to be.more now since tv deals are done? Like Rangers, Twins? Or will Twins payroll go down since they maybe selling?
Mark P
9:12
The Twins weren't raising payroll anyway, but in general, some of the teams with uncertain broadcasting futures will certainly at least limit their spending, if not cut it outright
9:13
Keep in mind that DSG has been going through these bankruptcy proceedings for almost two years now, and some clubs have proceeded more or less as business as usual
Dont believe them
9:16
Should Boston trade for Schwarber ?
Mark P
9:17
Schwarber would help basically any lineup, but this actually isn't a great fit overall since the Sox are already so heavily left-handed.  And I don't see the Phillies moving Schwarber, who is such a key part of their lineup and clubhouse.

What would it take for the Brewers to get McMahon from the payroll-reducing Rockies?
Mark P
9:20
McMahon is an outstanding fielder but has never produced even average offensive numbers.  Even if Colorado ate some of the money in a trade, I'd guess the Brewers probably think they can find a comparable player (or better) at a cheaper price
Someone else in the chat submitted a question about this but I can't find it, so sorry.  But they inquired if the Brewers might be a fit for Gomber or Quantrill, and that's something that could be a better option for a Milwaukee/Colorado trade

Were you surprised that Jose Ramirez had very little impact in playoffs.  Do the Guardians keep Josh Naylor for his final arb season?
Mark P
9:23
Discussed Naylor earlier, but as for Ramirez, a .798 OPS is solid for most players, but a big drop by his usual standards.  It's hard to be really "surprised" by a player having a big or little postseason just due to the small sample sizes involved, though I wonder if Ramirez felt more pressure than usual since the rest of the lineup wasn't doing much.
Kershaw
9:23
Will I realize in spring training that I don't have it anymore?
Mark P
9:24
I wouldn't be so quick to write Kershaw off.  While Father Time is undefeated and all, a healthy offseason might well have him looking like his old self.
It does seem like his bone spurs should be taken care of sooner or later, if this recurring issue has become increasingly painful
Mariners
9:26
Where do you see Edgar in the organization this year
Mark P
9:27
I think Adam Jude or another Seattle beat writer floated the idea of Edgar just working with the team during home games, so he wouldn't have the constant travel and grind associated with a full season.
That seems like a decent enough idea if all parties are up to it, since it really seemed like the Mariners' hitters picked it up after Martinez came aboard

Are the days of the contact speed hitter hitting lead off and the best power hitters going 3-4 gone? Shohei hitting first, Soto 2nd and Judge 3rd…feels weird, no?
Mark P
9:28
The Dodgers had to save the cleanup spot for their best hitter.....(/checks notes)....Tommy Edman

Who's on first?

Yes

C. Walker or Santander make a ton of sense for the Cubs if Bellinger walks no? Could see a trade for a guy like Burger 🍔 🤔
Mark P
9:32
Santander is the cleaner fit since Busch should still be getting most of the playing time at first base.  Though if the Cubs wanted to get really creative, they could sign Walker and then trade Busch.

What's the most underrated baseball movie? I'll go with Bang the Drum Slowly.
Mark P
9:35
I've somehow never seen that movie, which is a real oversight

My pick is "Sugar," which came out around 15 years ago, and it's about a Dominican pitching prospect arriving in the minors and adjusting to life and baseball. Directed and written by the filmmakers who went on to make the first Captain Marvel film.

Will the Athletics sell high on Rooker? Seems like a good piece to use to finish off their rebuild.
