Surprise! It's Jeff, not Steve. Sorry, Steve fans : (
Steve's on vacation, the laggard. I'll let some folks filter in while I finish writing up the basics on some posts, and we'll get rolling in a few.

Chirinos extension a back up in case Rangers lose Lucroy?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
To an extent, though he'd have been arb eligible regardless for '18. It does give the team control over a FA year. He's hardly the worst option for a platoon situation if Lucroy goes elsewhere and they can't find a true #1.

When do you estimate Derek Norris will sign with another team?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
I'd expect it'll be pretty soon. Have to think teams would like him to get some familiarity with their staff before the season opens, and it's hard to imagine he won't be on an active roster ... unless there's really tepid interest.

We demand Steve
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Too bad!
Grayson

In the future, will more ballparks be made to the hitters advantage to boost home run totals or to help the pitcher keep the ball in the ballpark?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Man, I hope it's the latter. If you watched that WBC matchup last night, how about the relay to nail Schoop at the plate? Awesome. That kind of play is what makes the game exciting, so I'm all for deep power allies.
Keyote
2:16
Do the Yanks really believe they can contend with that present rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
That's a fair question. Obviously I can't really speak to what they believe, in their corporate heart of hearts, but I have to imagine they believe there could be enough there. Pineda and perhaps Severino offer some upside. And if they end up in a really good position with a hole in the staff at the deadline, now they have the trade pieces to make a targeted strike for a controllable arm.

How do you see the angels pen shaking out? Is Bedrosian now going to be the closer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
That'd be my guess, though I suppose they could just turn it over to Bailey to start the year. Worst case, he falters and then you go to Bedrosian. Best case, Bailey is passable, Bedrosian is valuable in a floating high-leverage role (or as a pure 8th inning guy), and his earnings are tamped down a bit.
Steve Adams

How's it going
Jeffrey Todd

Go back to sunning yourself.

Do you think there's a chance that Quintana ends up in Boston? Or is that just wishful thinking on the part of Sox fans?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
I wouldn't bet on it.
Keyote
2:20
Outside the Padres, who has the worst rotation in MLB?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
I'd probably take the Twins.
Tim Anderson
2:21
Will I go the way of Sale and Eaton who signed these type of deals with the White Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
I mean, it's easy to like this kind of deal for the team. There's just such limited risk and getting the two FA years is nice. That said, this isn't like some of the other sub-1 service deals (Salvy, Archer, Moore, Longo) where there was truly immense upside. That is, unless you really think Anderson will not only be an elite defender but will also truly evolve at the plate.
The the angels angels of Anaheim
2:22
With his amazing spring, do you think the angels should and/or will start revere over maybin?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Should be able to earn himself a bigger share of the platoon.
But it was always going to be a platoon. Trout and Calhoun are about as regular as regulars get.
Rocco
2:23
Why does MLB keep pushing the WBC when most fans don't care about it?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Enough do care, and the only way to build this sort of thing is to push it. I'm a big fan, honestly. Love seeing the passion of guys playing for their country. If you watched last night, you saw huge stars going absolutely nuts in a tight game.
(Of course, the late-inning rules suck, but what're you going to do? Limits of this kind of event, alas.)
@JeffWilson_FWST
Robinson Chirinos will make $2.25M in 2018. Option in 2019 is for $2.375M plus escalators based on at-bats. $100K buyout.
Grayson
2:26
Do you know if Jason will continue his "Knocking on the Door" series? I enjoyed that last year.
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
I expect he will. Glad you liked it.
Miguel
2:27
Will Smith out of the Giants pen and Osich has been awful, so might they go with just one lefty? That doesn't seem like Bochy's style.
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
They have a bunch of other guys in camp. Blach is an option. Not clear at this point where that's headed but I don't see why they wouldn't still have 2 lefties.
Edwin Diaz
2:29
Am I the real deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Yep. Watching last night ... just filthy movement on 98. And his slider is the better pitch.
Ivan
2:30
How big of a loss is Smith's injury to the Giants?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
It's pretty significant. Obviously not like losing an ace or top position player, but that's a guy who really deepens a pen. Not just a LOOGY. Not a pitcher you can easily replace. They do have a lot of good arms around though -- despite what people seem to suggest based on the late-inning issues last year.
Mike
2:31
Hypothetical of course, but which team would say no to Seager + Pederson + Urias for Trout ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
Dodgers!

Do you think Falvey & Levine will be quicker to oust mediocre veterans in favor of youth with upside?
