So ... I lied to you on Thursday when I suggested Steve would be back. He's still on vacation. Unbelievable.
But I am definitely going to make him chat on Thursday!
2:01
I'll let everyone gather round and we'll get moving in a bit ... go ahead and log some questions.

2:04
So Dave D. just called and said he wants to extend me... What do you think I would be looking at?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
Well, 2+ means Trout and Posey are the targets. It has been a few years. I don't see why Mookie can't command that tier of contract (6/144.5, 8/159 respectively).

Thoughts on Scooter to the Reds? Cincinnati's middle infield already seemed crowded
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
He has an option yet. Lefty support for right-handed hitting Peraza and Suarez. And what if they find a taker for Cozart? May as well have another option on hand.
That said, they are committing to take on a decent chunk of salary, and Scooter has basically been an ok platoon second baseman over his career. So ...

What are your thoughts on the Bourjos trade.
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
Just reflects that CWS had decided to go with May. And at that point, they could either just cut Bourjos loose or deal him. Obviously got enough cash to make it worthwhile to do the deal ... little leverage to demand much more.

Has Delino Deshields won the LF job in Texas? What kind of value can he deliver?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
I really don't see TEX making that call based on the spring alone. I expect a time share that is allowed to evolve with the on-field play from the group and the needs that open elsewhere.

Which vet do the Giants keep for the last bench spot?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
All signs point to Hill.

How bad of an idea is it for the White Sox to roll with Jacob May as their starting CF (at least until Tilson is healthy)?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
He certainly didn't put up a batting line last year at Triple-A that'd suggest he's ready, but why not? Really depends on their read of him as a player and person. Will this be a challenge that he'll grow from, even if he struggles? Or could it deflate him? Impossible to know from the outside, but I assume they have thought about it through that kind of lens.
Orioles
2:10
Shakier situation, rotation or outfield? Seems like they're making habit of piecing together reclamation projects.
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
Rotation is more concerning from my perch. There's nothing wrong with an OF platoon situation building off of some quality lefty bats, IMO. But the staff could be pretty poor.
Bubba
2:12
What are the chances that Glasnow and Severino make the starting rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Glasnow clearly won't, but I'd look for him either to take advantage of any opening or perhaps even force his way up before long. Severino perhaps still could be ... haven't seen much clarity out of NYY.
Mike Rizzo
2:14
Just outrighted Clint Robinson and I feel bad for him. Will someone pick him up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
You can console him with a new job in Syracuse.
Jake

I keep reading that Julio Urias might go to extended spring training, and confirmed this morning. Does that mean he is being optioned to the minors? Just don't completely understand the term. Thanks
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
He'd have to go on optional assignment so long as he's healthy, since he's on the 40-man. So the team will burn an option year, not that it cares since he is awesome.
Philly Cheesesteak
2:15
Do you think we will see Williams or Quinn after the All-Star break?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
There's not really space for them to just waltz up, barring injury, so they'll need to prove ready for a job. I imagine that's sort of intentionally set up that way.

If the price tag for David Robertson is prospects, what level of prospect would be fair for CWS to expect back?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
So we are assuming the acquiring team pays the full salary? In that case, I don't really think he'd command much at all. Not sure I would have expected him to out-earn 2/23 (or whatever it is exactly) on the open market after his poor season.

Hey Jeff thanks for the great work on the chats and articles. Do you think the Blue Jays should stand pat with their LF/1B situation or sign someone who could be an improvement (eg: lonely, Pagan, etc).
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Thanks! I'm not sure much has really changed this spring to modify the considerations. I personally never expected a ton out of the three guys you are probably concerned about - Upton/Carrera/Smoak - and perhaps the team really didn't either. But it's kind of hard to just add Pagan, since that'd mean bumping one of those guys out entirely (both with some financial commitments) and the options at first aren't quite as clear.

The Phillies have traded RHP Alec Asher to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named later.

Sorry, had to get that up quick.

Can Jim Johnson really keep the closer job all year for the Braves?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Can he? Yes, I think so. I think they want him to and kinda/sorta expect him to.
Kent Tekulve

Do you thing the White Sox want to move Robertson to give Nate Jones the chance to close and increase his value?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Not really. They could've made that happen by now.

Will Justin Masterson see time as a starter on the Dodgers roster?

Raul Mondesi wins KC 2b starting job but how long does he hold it down for? His glove can only go so far right?
