Jeffrey Todd
2:01
Greetings. Pose me questions and I shall provide answers.
2:02
Go ahead and start hitting me with the ?s and I'll get rolling once the millions of participants have gathered.
Derek Jeter
2:04
Can I turn the Marlins around?
Jeffrey Todd
2:04
Any new ownership group is going to come with lots of money and new ideas. Given what'll be spent to acquire the business and the kind of financial backing required to buy it, I'd expect a new approach.
Bryce
2:04
Surprised Howard went to the Braves?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
I mean, it'd have been one of the last clubs you'd think of if you just look at the depth charts. But they want respected veteran types and he lives there, so it makes some more sense when you look beyond. Also ... no real downside here, so why not?
Kev
2:05
Alex Colome underrate or nah
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
I guess I'm not clear on just how he is "rated." I think most people see him as a rising talent who has a big arm but needs to establish himself further, which seems fair.

What do u expect of greinke and shelby miller this year? Both had down years but possess great talent
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
Don't expect either to be worth their original acquisition price, but would anticipate some positive regression.
Dan
2:07
Could you see the cubs going after Jason Motte? He pitched well during his time in Chicago
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Cubs have added a lot of minor league veteran reliever types, so sure. Plenty of other possibilities, too, of course.
Chandler
2:08
Is the Astros' starting rotation strong enough to win the West?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Not going to carry them, but I think there's enough there and they can add at the deadline too. Or draw from minors.
Drew
2:09
Shouldn't Yu and Arrieta be looking at Lester's deal as a comp?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
That could turn out to be the case, but they have more upside perhaps. Also bear in mind his deal was heavily frontloaded, which increased its real economic value.
Stephen Pine
2:09
Is there room for Ian Happ this season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Not at the moment, but injury/poor performance on the MLB roster combined with production from him could open room. It has happened before in Chicago, so I doubt they'll be hesitant to push him if they think he'll be an upgrade.
Scherzer's Blue Eye
2:10
Blake Treinen has some nasty filthy stuff. Does he stay the closer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
I've always said that ... all it took was watching him pitch. Control is the big question -- if he had more of it, he'd have been seen as a blue chip prospect, b/c the stuff is filthy.
2:12
He's not really wild like old Henry Rodriguez, just struggles to hit spots at times. Open question whether he'll hold the role. Even if he's pitching well, they could always bump him down if they see an opportunity at the deadline.
Matt
2:12
What type of contract can Grandy get with one more good year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
With a solidly above average season at the plate ... like 2/28?
Texas
2:12
How long before bush or jeffress becomes the rangers closer ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Dyson deserves some leash, I think. He did it last year and he can be pretty nasty.

2:13
Any reason fans start complaining like this after 3 games? Like I'm a Mariners fan but I know that our offense isn't going to be like this for the season.
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Everyone is excited for the season and is looking to make something out of the tiny samples. It's understandable enough.
Dylan L.
2:14
Has Trayce Thompson lost his spot on the Dodgers? Their outfield seems crowded now.
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
It has been pretty crowded for a while given their volume approach. They obviously cherish the depth. I'm sure he'll get another shot if a nee arises.
Geter Pammon
2:15
Are whitesox really favorites for Luis Robert, or pure speculation at this point?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Ben Badler is The Source. He seemingly suggests there's fairly strong interest there. Not one of these situations where it's a foregone conclusion, perhaps, but they seem likely to be involved.
Erik
2:16
Why would the Blue Jays bother with Maille? They already have 3 catchers on the 40, and 3 catchers in Buffalo. Seems like a useless waste of a 40 man spot to me. It's not like he has upside or anything either.
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
I wouldn't read much into this kind of move. Teams play around with free 40-man spots quite a bit. Obviously it suggests they like him well enough and that they want some catching depth, but I doubt they'll be wed to him. And if they end up shedding him from the 40, could always keep him if he clears.
Lou
2:17
Why don't my questions get past the moderators? Does MLB hate Baltimore?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
This is an interesting question in several regards. 1) lots of questions, I'm not moderating so much as answering what I see; 2) MLBTR, not MLB; 3) no, I don't hate the O's
kev ash
2:18
Will the met's rotation survive the season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Most orgs would be hurting pretty bad if they had lost pitchers of the Matz/Lugo quality level, so this is actually the depth working in a sense. You never know when a string of bad luck will come, but they are set up as well as can be hoped and can always get some depth.
2:20
Bear in mind, too, that the Mets were somewhat fortunate to have accumulated so many young, controllable, quality starters at MLB readiness at one time. But some of them have injury questions. It's the nature of the business.
Drew
2:21
If Arrieta's velo stays down this year, but he is still just as effective, does that hurt his FA stock at all?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
It would hurt him, yeah. Teams aren't just looking at past results, esp when it comes to massive FA deals for starters who are past 30 years of age.
