What's on your mind, as regards baseball? Drop some questions and I'll get to answering them shortly.
Erin

Who do you think is most likely to be traded from Jays when they start selling?
Jeffrey Todd
2:03
Well, assuming they are really in the tank come the deadline, you'd probably be looking mostly at some of the short-term veteran pitchers. Estrada/Liriano/Happ and Grilli/Smith in the pen. Perhaps Pearce or Smoak depending upon how they are playing, or even a guy like Chris Coghlan.
2:04
In theory I guess Bautista could also be shopped. Obviously Donaldson would be the big question, but it's tough to predict. With guys like Martin and Tulo on the payroll, how do they part with their best player? Maybe they'd see if they could get some immediate impact talent, but that'd be hard to pull off.

2:05
What does Wil Myers need to accomplish in order for his contract to look like a great deal for the Padres?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
It's not too hard to imagine it working out. What was it, 85 mil over six years? He could be a steady 2-3 WAR type of player and it would provide plenty of value.
2:06
The real question was whether it was worth doing given his arb status. Why lock into such a big future salary for a guy who is largely limited to first base (as they apparently see it) and hasn't consistently shown he'll be a top-flight player at his position.

Why can't I have the regular desktop version of MLBTR on my phone? I hate the mobile version
Jeffrey Todd

Pretty sure you can scroll to the bottom and opt into it. Email if that doesn't work and we'll figure it out.

When is it fair to start thinking about trade fits for Josh Donaldson? And what kind of return seems possible? Something in the David Price range with 1.5 years left?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
As with Price, who many thought went for a light return, you'd need to know the market. Donaldson is an elite player, and in theory more valuable than Price b/c there's less injury risk (assuming his calf heals up) for a position player. But there aren't a lot of teams that have a need at third right now, and that'll be a huge factor in determining other orgs' motivations. (I mean, I guess there is one rather notable high-dollar division rival.)

Is the possible pending arrival of Otani going to discourage some teams from going after Robert? A team that goes over the limit on Robert will be dq'ed from the next international signing period, correct?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
Good point. That would be the case. Technically they'd be limited to sub-$300K bonuses, and Otani is obviously willing to take less money, but still that'd be a huge sacrifice on his part.
2:10
John Manuel said today though that he sees Robert as a top-25 prospect out of the gates, so that decision would be plenty justifiable for basically any team. There's no guarantee you're going to be the one org that Otani picks.
All the more justifiable for, say, Reds/Pads/White Sox.

With the Dodgers on their usual 2 players to the DL per game pace, how long until Urias and Bellinger get called up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
I think those guys are largely on their own timelines. Bellinger, especially. If a couple rotation injuries cropped up, they probably wouldn't hesitate to call upon Urias, but there are others in line to take starts if needed.

2:12
Any idea on how much it will take to sign Luis Robert?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Not really, but if he's a legit top-25 prospect, then I don't see why it wouldn't be in Moncada range
2:13
(Or why it couldn't be. Bidding context and individual teams' views matter quite a bit.)

Would ervin santana for eloy jiminez and Ian happ be a little to much at the deadline? Or am I in the ballpark?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
That seems like a rather lofty asking price.

does mitch moreland win quality signing of the year
Jeffrey Todd

Way too early to declare that.

Jeff, I thought it was pretty bush league of Bosio and Lackey to imply that Thames is using simply because Thames lit up Lackey. I have no idea if Thames is using or not, but to suggest it with no substance to it just reeks of sour grapes. Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Have not seen their specific comments, but if they are as you said, then yes, it's bush league. Any speculation on juicing up related to outbreaks is pretty silly. I don't doubt there are some guys using, but someone like Thames didn't make his improvements because of adding strength.
(He showed a lot of power in the upper minors long ago, fwiw.)

So, Ubaldo.

can the angels get the second wild card with consistency and a healthy garrett richards?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
I am not super bullish on the Angels but yes, they are capable of making the postseason if some things break right.
2:18
PSA: Jay Bruce playing first for the Mets tonight.
That's sorta interesting. Duda was hurt last night, so could just be a short-term thing obviously.
Matthew
2:18
Is there a solution to the Giants LF woes, or did that ship sail last offseason.
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
They have a bunch of internal options to cycle through still, including Morse and Williamson and eventually a returning Parker. And they haven't hesitated to add at the trade deadline when it makes sense.
Sam Dyson
2:20
Would Rangers be foolish to trade me now or could they savage a solid prospect for me?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
That's just not really realistic, IMO. They'll let him get a mental/physical break and then work back into the mix slowly. Where things go from there, who knows?
Patulence
2:21
With the hot starts from Cozart and Suarez, are there any interested parties who would pay big for them in a trade, or do the Reds need to wait a while to let the market brew? Cozart seems to be a must go this year. Suarez could wait a while as he has lots of team control.
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Cozart is pretty likely to be dealt, though it probably won't happen until July.
Never know, but he seems as likely to move at the deadline as basically any player in baseball right now.
