Howdy. Gather round and ask some questions.
2:05
We'll start off by tipping our collective caps to Michael Morse, whose legend grows after inexplicably returning and hitting a dramatic home run for the Giants. Was that not the most Giants game ever?
Jim Jim
2:06
Brett Gardner to SF makes more sense now, based on Span news?
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
I don't see the Giants rushing out and doing something early.
Especially with MICHAEL MORSE now back in action.
2:08
(Okay, I'm largely kidding there. The guy can't play defense at all. But I think they'll feel they have enough at least to get by for a while. And will want to wait and assess needs/standings/market.)

James Paxton early AL CY fave?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Plausible candidate. Great new nickname.
M's
2:08
Haniger and King injuries are a huge blow to the M's. Do they survive and finally make the playoffs?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
Thing about these types of injuries is ... yeah, sure, they are survivable. No indication that anybody is out for the entire season. But when you're already buried in the division, it makes it a lot tougher.
I'd have expected the Astros to be the better team anyway. Spotted 5.5 games and with Seattle dealing with those kinds of injuries? Becomes a stronger expectation.

Let's play hypothetical here ... The White Sox are still in first place and have a 2 game lead on Cleveland on July 28th. What do they do?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Honestly, it's too soon to even entertain that. It's not like they are 17-3. They're in the vicinity of .500, which doesn't seem too surprising given how a few things have gone well and their assembly of veterans.
2:11
But if it somehow holds, I'd guess they would mostly just hold tight.
Nan
2:11
Do Jeets and Jeb get the Marlins? What's your guess on the final proce?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Today's shenanigans explain why we slow-rolled the report in the first place. There is no deal - yet. And if they are still lining up hundreds of millions in equity? That's a pretty significant thing, beyond all the other stuff still to come.
Asking people to park hundreds of millions in a baseball team with questionable profitability isn't the easiest thing to go for.
2:13
That said, seems they're the odds-on favs.

Cespedes down for a while. What can a Met fan do to keep their sanity?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Let's wait and see if that's really the case. Then ... if it's bad ... well, I'm not sure what you'd do to keep your sanity at that point. Would not be a very promising situation.
2:15
FWIW, Fangraphs currently projects the Nats to win 94 games, most in the majors. Mets project at 83, and that still includes a generally healthy Cespedes (and Syndergaard).
Just projections, but it shows what kind of pickle they are in.

who has more trade value right now: Nate Jones or David Robertson?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
The shaky start for Jones is a concern, especially the walks. But I still think he's more valuable b/c of the much better contract.
Milo
2:17
Braves bench is pretty weak. Potential targets?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Weak? The Red Sox just claimed the guy they cut loose!
But yeah ... no, there really aren't any targets right now. They could always see someone they like on the waiver wire, but there's zero chance they are giving up value to add someone via trade.

Luis Robert? Where does he land?...if you had to put money on it.
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Can I be honest? I have no idea. If I were to try to answer, I'd just be paraphrasing this article from Ben Badler. So you should just read it: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/new-update-cuban-outfield...
2:19
Robert situation isn't one where it's really possible to get a read from the outside, and I haven't seen anything that really gives me a sense by reading between the lines. So, I'm just looking to the expert on this one.
It does seem, from that article, that he's continuing to impress.

Should the Mets bring up Rosario and Smith now and jettison Reyes and Duda?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
No. There's zero reason to think that pair (mostly, Smith vs Duda) would be a near-term improvement. They rightly want Rosario to play short. Duda was hitting quite well before he got hurt.

MVP of 2017 season so far?

Thames!

Will Panda stay with the Sawx thru the trade deadline or will they make a move to replace him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Stay.
2:22
We will have to meet at some point in Roanoke! I need to find out where the baseball scene is out here, man!

Shouldn't you be napping, young man!
Jeffrey Todd

I wish.
