I mean, it's going to be waiver claims or veterans who opt out. Even if they are really in WC hunt at the deadline, hard to imagine they'd give up much value -- maybe take on salary, I guess, though -- to upgrade the pen.

Why didn't I just sign a one year deal and re-enter the market next year? Should I fire my agent?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
I'm sure they discussed the risk and reward involved in those two scenarios. What if he had done that and didn't hit well? How much is enough. There's always a tradeoff.

Any updates on Luis Robert? And is he the last big fish of the International Free Agent season, or is there another guy trying to clear before the deadline changes everything?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Not really. Still giving showcases and reportedly not accepting bids yet.
I am pretty sure he's the last big name of this signing period.

or as the yankees are proving you both could be wrong but youd never admit that right
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
I'd admit it if I'm wrong. But a month worth of play doesn't prove the team has enough rotation depth ... which is what was discussed in the post. Heck, even if they make it the whole way with five starters and win the WS, wouldn't necessarily make the analysis at the time wrong.
But if you just want analysis that takes everything at face value and then reacts to every little twist and turn, contact me offline and I'll provide some links.

Judge has a 54% hr/fb.
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Yeah I noticed that today. On the one hand, WHOA. He is killing the ball. On the other, obv not sustainable.

Jeff when did mike trout ever hit 20 hrs in the minors
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Good lord, just b/c we don't gush when a guy has a big month. Really, it's ridiculous. Nobody is saying Judge isn't impressive, okay? You want writers to just fawn over whoever is doing well and pillory those who aren't? That's easy and obvious and boring.
3:05
The Yankees themselves nearly optioned him to start the year. Per Heyman, today. So ... it's probably a bit too soon to start comparing him to Trout.

Red Sox down a starter? Can you elaborate?

How do you like TEX chances of bouncing back and making a run at AL title?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Not so much. Pretty big hole to a team I think is better (Astros) in their division. And Hamels is out (and was struggling before that).
Matt from Puerto Rico
3:07
Hey Jeff. I read that MLB wants to expand and have thought about vegas. Why not also bring a team to Puerto Rico. The fans here sleep eat dream love baseball. One of the best fan base
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
All about the money. I agree it would be cool to see a team there, but I have a hard time imagining it happening in the near term.
Also, I love your island! Been a couple times ... unfortunately I have yet to actually watch a ballgame there. One day!

3:09
Who would you rather, Roberts or Otani? Why?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Easy to take the position player, but I think Otani b/c he has a big-time track record at game's second-best level of competition and all the markings of an elite pitcher who you can put right into the rotation. Also, if his arm falls off, you can develop him as a hitter!

Like they say, analysis doesn't measure heart or determination. That is why analytics are the end all with sports.
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Not sure exactly what this is in relation to, but ... to the extent that heart and determination result in better performance, statistics capture that. And to the extent it is repeated and proven, analytics would begin to expect/project it to continue.

3:11
but they said they werent expecting to win this year you keep ignoring that i can send you just as many links with cashman saying that
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Wait is this actually the guy in those comments? Goodness. I know what they said. But they signed Chris Carter and Matt Holliday, right, so it's not like they meant it literally. Like "we don't care what happens." Right? Okay.

Please no more yanks fan today...please? Biased is no fun when arguing opinions.
Jeffrey Todd

Yes we are done now.
And I'm almost done too ... gonna wrap it up shortly but will try to rapid fire a few more.

but you said it didnt you so you WERE WRONG
Jeffrey Todd

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Aaron
3:13
Given Avisail has seemed to figure things out at the plate, do the Sox keep him or sell?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Guessing he stays put b/c I'm not convinced he'll really show enough to convince other teams he's going to keep going bonkers.

Do you think the Rockies would send a package of Brendan Rodgers + to the Rangers for Darvish
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Don't see themm parting with Rodgers for a rental.

Does Wisler have any trade value if so what could the Braves get for him
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Not really
Defense wins championsips
3:15
Do you think Ryan Zimmermanns hot start is semi-sustainable?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Think he could carry something like a 120 wRC+ the rest of the way if he stays healthy, but doubt he'll keep anything like this up.
