I think pursuing a quality, controllable SP would be quite justified, yeah. There's a potential window over the next couple years.

If the Royals traded Moose to the Red Sox what could they expect in return?
Jeffrey Todd

Like SS, 3B doesn't really figure to be in huge demand, best I can tell. So ... that'll depend quite a bit on whether there are other contenders that will chase Moustakas.
3:01
Beyond that ... barring injury or a big downturn, I expect he'd be valued generally as a solid regular position player. So ... as noted above, something like a back-end top-100 type. (Higher-upside, further-off young toolsy prospect or higher-floor, near-MLB type.)

Matt Harvey for Javier Baez/Top 10 Cubs Prospect is fair?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
2017 Matt Harvey? Nah.

Does Devers get called up and make an impact this season? The hot corner is a hot mess in Boston.
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
It's not out of the question. He's only 20 and at Double-A, but he is killing it and obviously has the talent. Would be aggressive but we've probably seen more aggressive promotions before.
3:05
Guess you'd think they'd bump him to Pawtucket first though ... I don't recall that the Sox have a history of promoting straight from Double-A (though I could be wrong).

Braves already threw intentionally at Travis after Freeman was hit. How many times til you are even??
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Okay it's all even. Glad someone else was thrown at to make things right. Eye for an eye!!!

If you want players to stop retaliating with pitches, there has to be another way to punish players who end a teams season. 7 ATL batters hit in 3 games certainly doesn't seem like an accident
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Do you think that they just suddenly decided they didn't like the Braves before arriving in Atlanta? In an interleague series?
3:07
If there's cause to throw a guy out or issue punishment after the fact, I'm all for it.
That's a much better and more reasonable deterrent.

Sean Newcomb for Yonder Alonso? Why not try to steal a NL wild card spot this year for the Braves?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Last one on ATL, promise ... they are rather buried in the WC standings at present and there's not much reason to think the team as constituted (particularly w/out Freeman) is good enough to make the postseason.

Hometown shout-out! With the Nationals current bullpen woes, do you think they stick with the current options, including Fedde coming up, until the trade deadline and try to swing a DRob or Herrera deal then? or do they try something earlier? Also, do we need to get a CF by trade or will MAT do?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Boom!
3:10
Could move a bit earlier than usual to add a reliever, though in all likelihood any big closer move would happen nearer the deadline. Could imagine the team pursuing a variety of packages (multiple relievers, reliever + CF) ... definitely think they will at least evaluate and price out CF options -- if nothing else, a LH hitting platoon guy -- but will wait to gather all the info before pulling the trigger on that.
3:11
OK couple more and I have to head out ...
FWIW ...

#Braves said they might play Ruiz some at 1B but wouldn't be often. He's a 3B. I expect them to sign someone, KJ or whomever.
I feel avenged

Why was there noise about Kris Bryant kept down a couple of years ago, but not any noise about franchise's bringing up players before they're ready, and stunting their growth. Zunino and Ackley (Mariners), Bonderman (Tigers), Joey Divine (Braves), and Craig Hansen (Red Sox) all come into mind.
Jeffrey Todd

Don't disagree.

Red Sox promoted moncada and benatendi from double A.
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Well there you go ... so maybe it'll be Devers time.
3:13
So it seems the Angels will again win the "mid-season veteran SP who used to be good" signing derby
Reportedly land Doug Fister

Could the Nationals also consider a SS and move Turner to CF?
Jeffrey Todd

There's a Cozart scenario, sure.

I want to believe in Starlin Castro. Please tell me its ok to be a believer?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Believe in him as an average-ish hitter who is palatable as a regular player? Maybe. But I wouldn't believe he's going to keep this up.
Okay folks, I have to run.
3:17
Thanks as always!
