Hey, May is almost over! That means plausible but unlikely trade season is almost upon us.
So ... drop some questions and I'll start to answer them in just a few minutes' time.

What can the mets do to turn their season around
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
I find crossing my fingers AND toes sometimes helps.
There's not much roster juggling they can do ...keep an eye on the wire.

Will the Twins collapse and if so do they trade Santana?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
I mean, I don't know that I see a reason for them to just totally collapse. They'll probably fade, and Santana will probably be available.

Odds of Cueto getting trading in July?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
I really don't know how to judge that. Eight games under .500 ... so it's at least reasonable to think they can get back into plausible contention realm. And then there's the question of the opt-out and how to trade the risk that's left on the deal.
2:12
How teams will feel about that kind of risk hanging over a rental player will be interesting. You can't value Cueto as a 4-year commitment b/c if he pitches well at all he's opting out. But how do you give up a lot of value -- or even take the contract at all -- knowing there's this huge penalty sitting there if he suffers a catastrophic injury.

Will the Pirates be sellers or buyers? If sellers who goes. If Buyers what are their needs?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
They traded Melancon last year, so I expect they won't hesitate to move assets again this year. Watson is the clear candidate. Could imagine them cashing in Freese since he's playing well. Cole & Nova would have to be candidates. And of course Cutch ... we'll see how he's playing I guess.

What's the trade market like for Brad Hand?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Should be quite robust. He has been excellent, is controllable, etc.
2:16
They really should be trading him, though, just due to injury risk alone. Really good time to get a return.
I had him 9th on my top 30 list, btw ... which was before the "he's on the block" report came out. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/top-30-trade-deadline-candidate...

Brett Gardner to Nationals makes too much sense think that is being looked at?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Also made sense at other times over the past few years. Who knows if the Nats really like him? But I'd agree he'd be one of several guys they'd have to consider if the Yankees decide to move him. (I don't know how they are leaning in dealing with the OF.)
2:18
Cain would be another strong rental option for the Nats. Wonder if they will at least consider players with some added control, though ... even if Eaton comes back strong next year, Werth will be gone and they'd probably rather have a new CF.

2:19
If the Brewers drop out of contention, will there be a trade market for Garza?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Sure, but I wouldn't expect it to be too strong. Barring a surprise, he's going to be one of those back-of-the-rotation guys that could help a contender get through the finish line and might get a postseason spot as a long man.
2:21
But obviously nobody is grabbing him thinking he's going to be part of a playoff rotation.

What's going on with Sergio Romo? Does he need to mix it up a bit?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Eh, Romo is who he is. Either he spots the sliders or he doesn't; they hit them or they don't.
Wayne
2:22
Braves buyers or sellers at the dead line? Thanks Jeff!
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Holders, for the most part.
Jeff
2:23
What kind of return can the A's expect if they do trade Sonny Gray?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Hard to get too specific here, of course, but for some context ... yeah, some signs of improvement. So that's good. And obviously the deeper track record is strong. But he only has two more years of control and the injury history is a bit of a concern (on top of the struggles). So I wouldn't be expecting something like the White Sox got for Sale or anything.

Does Dealin' Dave trade for a starter or a third baseman?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Probably both.
Matt
2:25
How much of a hit has Andrew mccutchen trade value taken this season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
A very substantial one.
Helpful, right?
2:27
I mean ... it's everything that happened last year, but more and worse. Really I don't see how they trade him unless he picks it up. Otherwise maybe they are just holding and waiting for him to hopefully turn it back around at some point in the future.

What's a fair asking price for David Robertson in terms of Twins players/prospects?

Does Todd Fraizer currently have much trade stock or will the White Sox simply look to dump his contract?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
I think they have to take what they can get. At this point that would be paying down a solid chunk of the deal and getting some kind of marginal prospect from a team that wants him as a bench bat.
2:29
That could change if he really picks it up or there's a big shift in the supply/demand at 3B.
