Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Hey! I'll let the room fill a bit before getting started.
Andrew and Farhan
2:13
You think we'll do anything in the next week?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Of course. I thought Friedman's recent quote was interesting, to the effect of the team really being focused on the guy/s they want rather than looking for value. They are confident. They should be. Team doesn't need much but it should absolutely be added to.
My bet would still be on a big-time lefty reliever more than anything else.
Jack
2:15
Does Jaime Garcia make his start tomorrow against the Dodgers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
I'm really not buying the efforts apparently being made to hype Garcia into a major trade chip. I mean, sure, he could be dealt at any time. But he's a guy that teams will consider to shore up the back of their rotation.
2:17
I did a poll yesterday re the best rental starter and he came in 3rd, in a virtual tie with Hellickson and behind Cahill and Estrada. Seems about right to me.
Ozzie Albies
2:18
Why are the Braves floating me out there? Am I getting traded?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Could be they are dangling him for a controllable starter. Doubt he'll be cashed in for just anything, but the Braves have hyped prospects as possible core guys in the past before trading them. (Peraza, Mallex.)
Alex
2:19
Does AJ Ramos bring back a better return than David Phelps?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Wouldn't expect so. I see Phelps as the better asset.
Gordon
2:19
What will Yankees do next ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Get a first baseman? I mean, Headley is a plausible third baseman only b/c he's a good enough fielder to make up for the marginal bat.
Mike Rizzo
2:20
Could I get Iglesias or Osuna without giving up Robles or Fedde?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Maybe, if a team saw Soto or even Kieboom as a legit headliner. Tough to know how those clubs (incl the Nats) value all of the prospects. But generally, both of those pitchers will be sitting in the window with big stickers.
Caleb
2:22
Do the Dodgers and Royals match up for SP. Kazmir, Ryu or Maeda to KC? At some point Kaz will be healthy.
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Don't see much motivation for either team. The Dodgers are comfortable bouncing guys onto the DL. Royals need more reliable arms.
Abe
2:23
hey Jeffrey, what do the angels need to give up to get Dee Gordon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
I don't see him as having surplus value beyond his contract. Whether Miami is willing to trade him based on that valuation, I don't know.
Jason
2:23
When will the Reds for something other than sit on their hands?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
I wouldn't get my hopes up. Fact is, they only have a few real trade chips to move this summer. None particularly exciting in this market, since Cozart doesn't have a real match.
They should explore deals for Iglesias, but keep a big price tag, and Williams has basically said he'll do just that.
Jason
2:25
Hi Jeff, The Redsox two major needs of catcher and third base are definitely apparent.  With Todd Frazier gone and Devers waiting in the wind, which direction do you see the Sox going in the next 11 days?
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
Tough to get a gauge, but the most sensible move would be to get a solid infielder who could hold down third or move around if Devers comes up and rakes. I'm not going to forget who's running the ops department ... could still be a big move in the offing.
2:26
Obviously they could go big or small in the pen. Could chase Avila or Lucroy or maybe Weli Castillo behind the plate.
Luc
2:27
What would Altuve make on the market if he were a free agent?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
Heyward framework, somewhat higher AAV.
Charles the Cat
2:28
Lot's of rumblings that the Cubs are playing coy and are looking hard at Verlander. What say you?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
Why play coy? The Tigers just traded JD Martinez, so they are ready to deal. Bring your offer and see what happens. Not sure I see a strategic advantage in that situation.
*in that approach.

2:30
What exactly do the Pirates do if they are still "in contention" at the end July?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Consider the kinds of lateral moves they made last summer, perhaps. But I don't know if that'll be as available this time around. For one thing, they don't really have a Liriano type of contract to move. For another, there's no Melancon -- the back-end guys they have won't draw the same kind of interest. So they'll be more likely to mostly stand pat than last time. (Not to say significant moves aren't possible.)
Mark
2:32
I know most do not feel like Yu Darvish will be traded. However, the Rangers continue to lose and lose big. If he does get dealt, could he fetch a top 100 prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
I think so.
Teams would have visions of 7 shutdown innings in a postseason series.
Andy
2:33
Cards have to begin selling off short-term assets right?  Lynn and Rosenthal value probably won't get any higher than it currently is, and their main targets the Marlins OF is "not available".
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
Lynn's value can't get higher since he'll be a FA. So, it is what it is. I just don't know how much he'll really bring back, and Goold hinted recently they think he could be a QO recipient.
2:35
As for Rosenthal, don't you want him around as a late-inning option for next year, esp with Oh departing? If you deal him away, you're likely going to be spending big in prospects or cash for a replacement in a few months' time.
Stearns
2:35
Given his underperformance and contract opt out situation, would Corey Ray be enough to headline a deal for Cueto?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
I just can't see a team giving up big value for Cueto and taking on all the risk in that contract.
