4 days til the deadline ...
2:10
Go ahead and start asking; I'll let the room fill up and then we'll get moving.

Do the cubs make a trade of a catcher?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
It makes plenty of sense and shouldn't cost too much. Avila is a really nice fit.

KC after more pitching?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Looks like they are moving on Liriano. Interesting. I don't hate that idea, honestly. He is obviously talented and pairs up with Cahill.

What can Addison Reed get for the Mets?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
The wear and tear is a bit of a concern, but he's the best rental reliever by a fair sight. There should be a decent little auction to get him.
Chris
2:14
Will Dodgers trade for a SP or RP?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Maybe, yes.
No real reason for them just to make sure they get a starter, so it'll be big or nothing. Whereas, say, the Yankees might check down to a rental arm if they miss on Gray.

Any starting pitchers the mariners could go after?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Well, there are a lot of candidates, generally: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/trade-market-for-starting-pitch...
2:16
Lynn and Estrada are probably the most interesting rental arms left. But maybe they would deal an outfielder (plus whatever else is needed) to get a controllable guy?

How's everyone today
Jeffrey Todd

I am well. Can't speak for the rest of the room.

Who will the mets trade
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
I would set the over/under at 4.5 players. Reed nearly certain. Duda & Asdrubal pretty likely. One of Granderson/Bruce likely, quite possibly both.

Hey Jeff. Could the Indians acquire Sonny Gray without giving up Mejia or Mckenzie? Would Clevlend's package of Naquin, Armstrong, Bauer/Hillman, and Chang/Wakatmatsu get Gray and Rajai Davis?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
Not sure whether CLE is really on Gray, but I'm taking this generally. With this many clubs in on a guy, you can probably anticipate it'll take going a bit beyond the comfort zone to get him. Some team will likely need to step up its offer and add the guy they wish they didn't have to.

why is it tasking soooooooooooooo  long for Grey to be traded ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
No comparable pitchers are left on the market, since guys like Gerrit Cole aren't being shopped. So the A's  can take their time and let the bids come in.
Chris

Where does Liriano get traded to? What's a realistic return?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
On the second part of this, I'd basically expect some cost savings.
Joey
2:20
What starting pitcher do the Yankees land and at what cost?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
I'd call them the leader on Gray.
Matthew
2:21
If the Cubs at all of verlanders contract, what would they have to give up to get him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
In theory, not much. The contract is a reasonable roll of the dice for JV, but it's hard to say there's surplus value there.

any big move for sox
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
I'll assume you mean the hose of the crimson hue. I still see them adding an impact player of some kind. It would particularly make sense on offense, where the market for hitters is so weak. The division is there for the taking, so go get it and give yourself a chance against some potentially stout competition in the postseason.

What could Bud Norris, Yusmerio Petit, and David Hernandez get in a trade? Is it possible they could all be packaged together? Could packaging the three get a top 100 prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
It's conceivable that two of them could end up going to the same place, but it's not going to be a situation where you keep adding guys with a bit of value and suddenly end up with 1+1+1=3.
2:26
They are all of interest, to varying degrees, but will it be worth the Halos dealing them just to get a likely pretty marginal return when the WC isn't out of the question?
This is a different question than that facing the Rangers w/r/t Darvish.
Derek
2:26
How did you like the return the White Sox got for Jennings?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
Seems like a worthwhile risk. I kinda like that they have added guys who are near the majors, in part b/c it'll let them get an early look and will save some money that otherwise would've gone to marginal free agents.
2:28
And I kind of enjoy the fact that they have mostly just gone about selling one after another without playing too many games. Sometimes, holding out on a guy can result in a better return, sure. But I can also see some teams ending up out in the cold a bit if they play it wrong, and it's just time for the White Sox to turn the page competely.
