Things are already getting chaotic on the transaction front, but we can fit in one more Weekend Chat before the deadline....right?

what would a trade of arias look like and how much value does Mayer have
Mark P
8:49
Making Arias available would put the Sox into the conversation for pretty much any trade candidate, even the "you'd have to blow us away for us to move him" types.  That very reason makes it unlikely that Boston trades him, as my guess is that Mayer is the more expendable of the two (notwithstanding the obvious fact that Mayer is hurt).

With all of 364 big league PA under his belt, it's too soon to write off Mayer, and he'd get a lot of interest if shopped.  Arias waiting in the wings gives the Sox some leverage to test the market for Mayer if need be.
Giants
8:50
Did Luis just get traded or no?
Mark P
8:50
The official word is that he was scratched due to some cramping.  Probably not a serious injury, but needless to say, the Giants don't want to risk anything that harms Arraez's trade value.

Let’s go.. Perez!!
Mark P
8:51
I think you posted this just before House's hit.  Jinx!
Go go Guards
8:51
Are the Guards done? They need two professional bats. They have the farm system to make that happen but will they?
Mark P
8:52
We've been saying this for years, but big deadline moves aren't really Cleveland's style.  Not that this deal with the Brewers will be all the Guards do, but Perkins isn't really any kind of answer to their offensive needs.
Kirby
8:53
Is he a serious trade possibility or is it just teams inquiring because he had a bad game?
Mark P
8:54
The Mariners aren't moving Kirby unless they get a great offer. Obviously the fact that they're open to moving him at all is newsworthy since their previous stance seemed to be 100% in favor of keeping him.  But, if teams don't want Castillo's salary and aren't too enamored with Hancock, then moving Kirby might be Seattle's best way of adding a bat.

Phillies seem to be in on everybody…the way they’ve been playing lately id rather see them make six dart throw trades than 2-3 big ones to avoid depleting an already week system. Could you see them going this way?
Mark P
8:56
I tend to agree, since the Phillies have more than just 2-3 needs.  The issue is that swinging six lower-level types of trades may not move the needle all that much, since that makes for six question mark-ish type of acquisitions rather than one or two big but more clear-cut adds

Does Ivan Herrera to the Yanks make sense, even though he’s not really a catcher?
Mark P
8:56
St. Louis isn't moving Herrera for anything less than a huge haul.  He's likely one of the very last guys they'd move, if he's even available at all.
Astros
8:57
How big exactly is Detroit willing to go with their sell? Is Greene available? He’d be a great fit in HOU if Brown would be willing to move Alvarez, Blubaugh, or Neyens.
Mark P
8:58
The Tigers want to win in 2027, so they aren't moving Greene.  Their deadline sells will likely be limited to just the impending free agents
Danny from Milwaukee
8:58
With the Brewers trade today that included Bo Naylor; do you see them being more and more open to including Jeferson Quero in a deal?
Mark P
8:59
Apparently the Naylor deal was just about adding some depth, as Naylor gives Milwaukee a third catcher with MLB experience.  Moving Quero doesn't seem likely at all, since Contreras is probably being dealt this winter (going by the Crew's past modes of operations)
Scott Upham

Brewer's fans are adamant that several of their top prospects are untouchable. In your mind who is truly untouchable?
Mark P
9:02
I cannot fathom a Made trade, and Lara and Pratt are already signed to extensions.  Beyond that group, I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see anyone else moved, given how Milwaukee is reportedly acting with a little more urgency than usual.

Moving Luis Pena would open the doors to a lot of trade conversations, even to someone like Skubal.
Dingers and Doubles
9:02
With Matt Olson hitting his 30th homer of the season another 30 homer year and the consecutive games streak and Gold Gloves is he on track for the Hall of Fame?
Mark P
9:03
I definitely like Olson's HOF chances.  He's one of those somewhat underrated guys that everyone knows is good, but then you look up the numbers and are a little surprised to realize just HOW good.  (Ironically, a little like Freddie Freeman.)
Brewer Fan
9:04
Uh.... did we just get fleeced? It feels like we just got fleeced. Maybe I'm just high on Yoho and over rating him, but.... idk that one seems rough
Mark P
9:05
Perkins was superfluous, and if the Brewers trade a pitcher, something must be up given the quality of their pitching lab.  The fun wrinkle here is that the Guardians' own pitching development team has long been heralded, so it'll be interesting to see how Yoho develops any further in the Cleve
Blue Jays
9:05
Given how weak the AL is in general, what are odds that Blue Jays lean buyers side despite pending free agents?
Mark P
9:06
Any buys Toronto makes will be for players who are controlled through at least 2027.  As rough as this season has been, the front office is surely viewing it as a blip, and the intent is to contend again next year.
So in this context, the Jays will absolute explore more than just prospects in their trade talks

9:06
Peralta or Wacha more likely for San Diego?
Mark P
9:07
Peralta, because it's doubtful KC moves Wacha at all
Sedona Ron

Thr D-Backs need a first baseman. Who's the best fit and what do they have to give up?
Mark P
9:08
I'm not sure if the Nationals are going to move him or not, but Luis Garcia makes a ton of sense as a fit for Arizona's needs
Richie
9:08
Adley Rutschman to ChiSox? Rumor have any weight?
Mark P
9:09
I'm not sure Chicago needs to go that big on a catcher when Teel is ultimately still their guy for the future.
Patrick

Scott Harris didn’t effectively sell when the team was bad in 2024 (besides Flaherty, Carson Kelly, and Chafin) didn’t buy when the team was good in 2025 (besides Morton and Paddack.) As a Tigers fan why should I feel anything but panic for the impending Skubal, Mize, Torres trades?
Mark P
9:12
"Besides the trades that worked, nothing worked!"

Fair enough if you're not thrilled by how the Tigers have operated, but Skubal and Mize are much bigger trade chips than anything Detroit had to offer in 2024.  Also, the club still made the playoffs that year anyway.

Dodgers OF prospects Zyhir Hope and Kendall George have been scratched from Double-A Tulsa’s lineup tonight.  Getting traded?
Mark P
9:13
Certainly hints in that direction.  Stay tuned!

Would the Marlins really sell off a bunch of their players as the rumors suggest? I hope not
Mark P
9:14
Don't look now, but Miami has won 4 of 5 since their ugly losing streak.  Marlins are back over the .500 mark, and I think their deadline plans are extremely fluid.
