Why why are the Phillies still giving Bohm ABs and moving him to first when he is a FA after this season? Why move Harper for his non-existent bat???

The Phillies made it pretty clear over the last couple of offseasons that they felt Bohm was expendable, but not to the point of non-tendering him.  I wonder if the trade talks had some mental impact on Bohm, since his play has totally cratered this year.  

Maybe the move here was to see if the full-time position change might get Bohm going, but yeah, I agree that just trading Bohm entirely for an outfielder would've been the more logical move. Of course, very easy for me to say that as an armchair quarterback, as who knows if such a deal was available for the Phillies at the deadline

The Braves have scored big on what seemed to be underwhelming deadline adds in the past, so I'd hesitate before calling this return "great."

MLBTR's Darragh McDonald went in the opposite direction by describing Atlanta's deadline as a "whiff" a few days ago, which I get in the context of the Braves being real contenders and it seemed like the team put too many of their eggs in the basket of deGrom waiving his no-trade clause.  But overall, the Braves still have a strong team and still have a legit chance to win the pennant.

Cards are SO deep in pitching prospects it seems a deal for 3-4-5 of them to a pitching poor team for a better prospect makes sense. Any possibility there?

Carhman did, let's just say, not enough at the deadline. The Yankees offense is horrendous. The starting pitching is great but they still have a weak pen and can't score runs. What's this year and best year look like?

This year is entirely dependent on when Judge is able to come back, and how he's able to come back.  The lineup is apparently so completely tied to his success that if Judge isn't 100 percent upon his return, the Yankees are likely cooked.

Is it likely CJ Abrams' peak trade value was at this deadline? If so, what does the refusal to aggressively shop Abrams suggest about the Nats' plans for 2027 and 2028?

As has been written many times over, Abrams has yet to put together a fully consistent MLB season.  If he does go for all of 2026, then the peak of his trade value will be this coming offseason, as Washington can then say "Abrams isn't just a one-half wonder, so we want an All-Star level return for his services."

Speaking of how a new front office can think differently about an ex-front office's top prospects, Mayer was clearly seen as yesterday's news in Boston.  Moving him for just Miller and a lottery ticket OF prospect did seem a little surprising, but maybe that speaks to how other teams and evaluators had also soured on Mayer's potential.

Springer's role as a clubhouse leader creates the possibility that he might be re-signed on a fairly inexpensive one-year deal.  But based on production, I'd let him walk, since the Jays might need to keep the DH spot open for (if healthy) Santander or another, more productive option.
Or several options, if the Jays want to use the DH spot as a revolving door for players to get partial rest days

Bogaerts is pretty close to immovable.  Tatis has more trade value but is also tricky to move anywhere, especially after this power outage of a season.

Pulling off some wild Devers deal is the most AJ Preller thing possible so I can't rule it out entirely, but it seems a lot more like "an aggressive PBO mulling over every possibility" than a real direction the Padres would seriously explore

Straw is at $8M for 2027, with a $1.75M buyout. Is $6.25 a reasonable cost for a veteran backup outfielder with great defense and speed, and a positive in the clubhouse?

I didn't include Straw in my breakdown of Toronto's 2027 outfielders since I'm assuming the Jays decline that option without much thought.  Someone with Straw's skillset can be found for a lot less than $6.25MM.
Including, perhaps, Straw himself, if the Jays decline the option and then just re-sign him at a lower price tag

But for non-snarky response, Pfaadt's hot streak is great news for Arizona both in 2026 and for the future.  He has faced some slumping teams during this stretch, but still, a 1.32 ERA in 47 2/3 innings isn't all luck.

I find it hard to believe that he'd be promoted without even a brief stop in Triple-A.  But, if that promotion happens and Made performs well, I can see the Brewers perhaps making the call to have Made as a secret weapon for October

Duran had a .345 BABIP over his three best seasons, and he has a .248 BABIP this year.  The truth about his talent level is somewhere in between the two extremes, but his increased strikeout rate makes it seem like rival pitchers and teams have figured out that Duran can just be beaten by the fastball

I think Verlander will be back at some point, and it would be pretty fun to see him embrace "pitching chaos" and pitch out of the pen. If the Tigers are still in a playoff chase, I feel Verlander will do whatever is required to help them win

I don't hate the Astros.  But, I do think that nixing the Abreu/Larnach deal was a mistake for Crane, as I'd much rather have had Larnach installed in left field.
