This has been the most common bit of speculation amongst Toronto fans, in that Vlad's bad back is maybe a lot worse than he and the team have been letting on.  This is the best-case scenario, actually, since a bad back is something that can (probably) heal.  Whereas the idea of Guerrero falling apart in the first year of a $500MM contract is devastating for the Jays.

Do I get called up this year?

The 20-year-old has all of 13 Triple-A games under his belt.  While he's been hitting really well thus far, it's not a big sample size, and the Padres will be gauging his development as a catcher as much if not moreso than his development as a hitter.  Especially since the PCL environment may be skewing his numbers.

I can't rule out a September call-up since the Padres are aggressive. But, Campusano's bat has lessened SD's needs at catcher.  I'd lean maybe 55-45 in favor of Salas debuting before 2026 is over.

Do you think the final AL Wild Card Team has a sub 500 record?
Mark P
9:26
Surely the sixth team can get at least 82 wins.....right?  Right?

Did this weekend offer us a preview of the NLCS?
Mark P
9:28
If you mean Brewers/Dodgers or Braves/Diamondbacks, maybe.

If you mean Mets/Nats, Marlins/Reds, or Rockies/Giants, nope
Oh, and Cardinals/Cubs?.....hey, crazier things have happened?

Mark it seems to me that Adames, Chapman and Devers were red meat signings to get the fan base off the FO’s back and that Buster’s main focus is 2030 when the last of our top prospects is due up. Only problem is the FA strategy as kinda backfired. What do you think?
Mark P
9:31
I realize that Posey likely has more job security than most GMs of struggling teams who were hoping to contend, but I suspect that the Giants will need to start playing better way before 2030 for Posey to still have a job.

The farm system is looking more solid, but now the question is how many of those prospects develop into real MLB-level players, if not difference-makers on the next contending Giants team.

Is Tommy John surgery one of the 10 most important developments in the history of baseball
Mark P
9:34
Great debate point!  There have been so many epic game-changing moments in baseball history that TJ surgery (as important as it has been) doesn't crack the top 10 or even the top 20.  But that doesn't lessen the impact in general.

What do you think about Abrams moving to 2B?
Mark P
9:34
A logical and necessary move.

Dan wilson mariner manager next season?
Mark P
9:35
Wilson's contract status has never been made public.  But, we're coming up on the two-year anniversary of Wilson's rather surprising hiring, and it would be less of a shock this time if Seattle made another late-August dugout change.

I’m guessing the Baz question was about Bazzana
Mark P
9:37
Wait, seriously?  In that case, it's way too early to be calling anyone from the 2024 draft a bust or a steal.

(And, in my defense, one can understand how I might naturally assume that question was about Shane Baz!)

could vahn lackey be up in the majors as soon as 2027? or is he more of a 2028/2029 call up?
Mark P
9:39
I'd guess at least 2028.  Like all catching prospects, Lackey will need plenty of polish on his defensive game before a big league team is willing to trust him handling a MLB staff

Who would be a good challenge trade partner for the Nats Dylan Crews? Nats could still go with an OF of Daylen Lile, Jacob Young, and James Wood next year. Seems some organization would love to take a chance on him, and the Nats could desperately use more SP. Gotta trade something to get something....

Maybe an outfield-needy team like Cincinnati?
Yes-ah Cameron?
9:42
Would you trust this Noah Cameron run enough to give him a spot in what is supposed to be a competing team’s rotation next year?
Mark P
9:43
Given how little else KC has in their rotation beyond Lugo and Wacha, Cameron basically has a spot clinched, in my view
