Oops on my part, you're correct

Jays fans love Springer. Any chance the jays bring him back on a lower aav contract?
Mark P
9:53
Springer has quietly been very good over the last couple of months, after his ice-cold start to the year.  Re-signing him isn't out of the question, but the issue is that he's basically a full-time DH at this point.

Having a non-elite bat as the regular DH isn't really ideal since the Jays then lose the opportunity to rotate other players into the spot.  Plus, assuming Santander is finally healthy, they'll likely want him for a chunk of DH days.  So unless the Jays are comfortable having either Springer or Santander in a corner OF slot on a daily basis.....
Cliffs

I'm amazed that hitters seem to fall off cliffs. It seems to happen to much more in baseball, even over long seasons.  Cal Raleigh being the biggest example this year.

Hitting a baseball thrown by a big league pitcher is the hardest thing in sports.  And it's even harder in this era when pitchers have so much more information on you, teams can cycle in hard-throwing relievers constantly, etc.

If the league expands, how does a new team fill out a full minor league system? Do they draft for a few years before the expansion draft?
Mark P
9:59
Correct.  Looking back to the last round of expansion teams, the Diamondbacks and (Devil) Rays had their first drafts in 1996, but didn't start play until 1998
Witt homer
10:00
How much of a fWAR lead does Witt need to build over Yordan to start getting talked about more for mvp?
Mark P
10:01
Witt leads Alvarez 6.5 to 5.9, with that lead because of Witt's clear defensive edge.  Hitting-wise, Alvarez has a 185 wRC+ to Witt's 126, so that's another big gap.
Mike Hazen
10:02
Am I on the hot seat for not trading Marte before his 10-5 rights kicked in?
Mark P
10:04
Hazen's contract runs through 2028, with a club option for 2029.  So I'd be surprised if he's fired, and the Marte situation is probably not as large of a knock against Hazen as the possibility that Arizona could miss the playoffs again.  Remember, ownership had to sign off that Marte extension, so it's not like Hazen was going rogue in locking him up.
